The best of tablet-based interactive novels! The story picks up right after the previous issue and neither the pace nor the quality let up! The writing makes you feel extremely involved with the characters, especially your own. While it forces you to incarnate a type of character, the traits choices are intelligent and make you feel like a real person instead of "spear hero with earth magic". This one has a very long hidden-stats portion compared to the others, but it justifies it splendidly.

Wow just wow, this is an absolute heartbreaker. To say your heartstrings will be pulled is such an understatement. Its absolutely breathtaking, and an thrilling story to say the least. Im eagerly awaiting the next book in this story, the ending was set up so perfectly. It was wrapped up nicely with a thin red stringy tie, making way for the next stage in the story built up since the previous books. Absolutely breathtaking.

My biggest complaint was the illustrations, not that they were not good, they were very good, but I'd like to have them as an option I can turn on or off. Other than that, a good story, fun and dark, tragic, and I love it. The only other thing I'd complain about is the wonky appearances of a few minor characters, and I get it's a surreal scene, but most didn't seem to hold ant symbolism I could identity. Still, outside that, it's awesome, and i can't wait for book 5,the short stories are funtoo

This is as good as it gets. This is the most mature, best written Samurai of Hyuga book/game so far, and the series was already the best example of choice gamebook narratives out there, so that's saying a lot. The central relationship is one of the best I've ever seen, anywhere. It does go to very dark places, but not without purpose or resolution. That twist at the end.. I want that storyline renewed next book. Just incredibly well realized. Update: We can save now. ^^ All set for Book 5!

Loved it. Nice tie in the bring plot points full circle. It is telling a solid story. I did find staying true to myself was quite difficult as in curtain situations or around different people, my behaviour is different, which some times makes for some brutal skill checks and other times damn glorious. But all in all the 4 books so far have been great.

This one at the beginning was very confusing, it's like they tried to throw in as many activities as possible. However at the end everything comes together, very abrupt to be honest. However I wished we had more options/opinions about the character and Jun's relationship. But despite all that, the series is entertaining and emotional. It makes me appreciate what I have more.

One story I could not put down. It was so good I had to come on here to write a review. Well written characters and the decision stats system was very well done and not to bad. What I love is a good interactive story with large amounts of words that allows me to dive in and use my imagination as if I am actually in the story which is how I felt reading this book. I did not feel rushed through the story and it truly felt like George RR Martin, and Tom Clancy and CS Lewis written novels its that good. Enjoyed it through and through. The ending definitely screams that there will be more to come and the wait begins. Book 5 is going to get crazy. I did not care for the way it left me hanging is my only gripe because now a long wait is ahead and I just want to get back into the action and do some more heroing. Kinda ending that leaves you sad and determined to jump into book 5 and do whatever it takes to save the day and find closure. READ this book if you want to go on an adventure, with surprises and minds to be blown.

It's good story, however the glaring issue I had personally was the quizzing. The answers lay way back in previous books and if you haven't played in a long while. Well, you're going to suffer for it. Especially, when it takes months to a year for one of these to get developed. I shouldn't have to take notes to enjoy a non-competitive game. That frankly is the biggest flaw. Otherwise, I like the game and can't wait to read the next book.

This latest addition adds a considerable amount of depth to a character that has been a major part of the story to the point that you become easily attached to them as you learn their story and watch them grow. But that's not the only thing this book has to offer thanks to a compelling story along with uncovering dark secrets that had been hinted at in the second book, even if it had been just a passing whisper at the time. Makes someone who isn't a fan of books like me unable to stop reading.

Wow. Super glad you guys released #4. I loved it! Very nice to see the back story, it was incredibly tragic for all involved. Ending was a bit shocking. I kind of feel bad with how it turned out. Truthfully a part of me hopes for a happier ending for everyone in the future books... that may not be possible given the ending, but I still love this series. I liked how you dealt subtly with the sensitive topics in this series. Your characters are enjoyable, flawed and most importantly believable.

Aaaahhhh, gosh darned cliff hangers! EAGERLY awaiting the next installment. I LOVE the depth of this story and it's characters and the very real feelings of anxiety I get while making my choices. The length is great too, allowing for the story to play out at a great pace vs rushed with too little detail. I'm so ready for #5!

If you haven't read the Samurai of Hyuga series yet, and wondering if it's worth to buy all of the four book, the answer is yes. Unforgettable characters, important choices, damn, I couldn't wait for the fifth book. You can replay for many achievements, and your choices shape your journey. I have choices that I regret and should do better, but I wanna see what will happen in next book from the choices I've made.

The fourth book of the series, at the time I'm writing this, is the most recent installment in the series. It is also my favorite book to this point, and by a long shot. Some reviewers have raised issues with this book for it's graphic content, but from the very beginning this story has not been for the weak hearted. This setting has always been about, and continues to be, a violent world where bad things happen to people. I hope it continues to impress when the 5th book is released.

Ive played through the entire series a few times now. The characters the interaction you have and the scenery have left me far from disappointed. The stat system i enjoy because its simply and allows for a unique gameplay style. I would recommend and really cant wait for the 5th book.

I played them in a weird order the first time. You can pick up any of them an play through pretty easily. The third was a bit different. The ending of the 4th had me replaying to get different ending. I'm waiting on the 5th book and hopefully it can ease my mind about the 4th book.

The story just keeps getting better and better! The character development is amazing. Ive never stuck around a book as long as I have the SOH series. There are some triggering topics so make sure you read your warnings. But other than that I'm alreasy counting down the days for book 5

If you're a fan of the creepy ex stalker then you'll really love this installment. Personally I found it dull and annoying at best, extremely uncomfortable at worst. I understand it being a departure from the normal story, but it wasn't pleasant to read through as I was so uninterested in every character. Just depressing. I ended up speed playing it, to see the end, and it left me unoptimistic. Here's hoping the next one is a return to form.

One of my favourite hosted games so far! I absolutely love this series and I can tell that the writer had put in a lot of effort into writing this story so arigato! If you are still considering, just buy the game! The narrative, characters, plot twist, emotive elements are just beyond words and all I can say is it's really wonderful and he has outdone all the other series out there! Can't wait for part 5(hopefully) and you are awesome Devon!(writer)

I'll admit, I may have just been a little too emotional but did the app ask if the player wanted to make a save? I'm a little concerned by that. But, considering the whole Silent Lady story being built up, I feel like I either missed it or it was just a bug. I would be totally ok with playing this game again. It resparked my love for the series. A little heartbroken by one of the developments from this part's conclusion... I've never been so happy to play a female ronin interested in men.

All in all, my favorite interactive novel of all time. All the characters are really well written, the choices and story carry so much weight, it always keeps you coming back for more. A true 10/10 and i really hope to see more stories from the author.

Eri. S. Aug 13, 2020

Honestly I'm pretty disappointed in the direction the story is going. Most of the decisions have felt more like random guessing in these past two installments. For me it feels like no matter what choice I make the main character seems to spend more time feeling sorry for himself and regressing I'm his development than anything else. I think this is where I'll be hopping off the train, so to speak.

By far the best entry aside from the first. It developed the characters better than before, and had the story at its climax. It has balanced out comedy, intensity and really gets you to feel with excellent writing. Can't wait for the next book!

Best one in the series so far. The author did such a wonderful job, playing with reader's emotions with one twist after another. Even certain side characters are memorable and always get a laugh out of me. Spoiler Alert: I will never let go of the apple trees.

Phenomenal story telling but it won't be everyone's cup of tea (which is to be expected). There's some fantastic character development and backstory given, though I'm not a big fan of Jun his backstory gave me a better perspective of him. At times it does feel like you have less control over the narrative, but with a world this rich and characters so well developed it isn't really a loss to at times be forced along with a stringent storyline. Can hardly wait for Book 5, and to be able to save.

Great work again author, I love all the little references to the small details in the past books, that was really cool! I don't know how long this series is going to end up being but I will definitely be reading every future book to come, this series has been amazing thus far and is only getting better. Once again great job and I hope your future endeavors go swimmingly.

Abi. B. Aug 30, 2019

Definitely a departure from the norm in this series, due to the MC being more on their own this go around, but deeply rich with character development. This book in particular is less for the sensitive souls because it brings up a lot of difficult subjects but SoH has always been pushing the envelope. I enjoyed it very much and can't wait for the final two books

Bre. m. Sep 20, 2019

Simply the best I have ever read. The 4 books are really good together, but this was so good I had nearly cried, amazing ending. I want to read and live through the next book more than I want my job (that I like). If you only read 1 series by Hosted or Choice of Games, this is the one I say is worth every penny. (Spoiler) not exactly a spoiler but feeling empathy and almost a sense of stockholme syndrome for a character that you used to dislike or hate (/spoiler) Its a masterpiece.

This is my favorite Samurai of Hyuga book yet. The first book set the scene with an old grizzled Ronin in a bar on guard duty with an unknown checkered past while this story took the time filling in all the specifics of the past and setting the story up for an epic conclusion. I appreciated how in depth the story relating to my Ronin's past was and the effort the author put into his work. The sword who cuts the heavens shall prevail. Excellent plot. Excellent replayability. Highly recommend.

The best one so far, this is beyond brilliant, has so so many different ways to be played and enjoyed im left speechless. The writing is absolutely beyond brilliant and i love the themes of saying thank you, not sorry, and growing from pain, im already looking forward ti the one in the series!
