Santander Cycles

Santander Cycles is the self-service, bike-sharing scheme for short journeys in inner London.The official Santander Cycles app from Transport for London is the only app to send bike release codes straight to your smartphone. So you can skip past the docking station terminal and get on your bike quicker.Simply register with your bank card, and use the app to ‘Hire now’ from a nearby docking station. Follow the instructions to get your bike release code. Tap the code into the docking point and you’re good to go!
You can also:
• See up-to-the minute information about which docking stations have bikes and spaces available
• Plan a journey with an easy to follow map
• Receive notifications – for example, summarising the cost at the end of your hire
• View your recent journeys and charges
• Save your favourite docking stations

Each bike release code is valid for 10 minutes at your chosen docking station.Please note the app doesn’t reserve bikes. If there are no bikes available at the docking station, don’t worry. Use the app to find a nearby docking station with bikes, and get another bike release code to use there. The cycle scheme is great and I'm a long time user, but the app is very flaky. After transferring phones I've never managed to get my account working again: there is a valid card saved to my profile with auto-pay enabled but every time I attempt to hire a cycle I am requested to put in card details again. This step always fails, even with multiple cards in and I have not been able to hire a bike through the app at all.

I have to downgrade the rating to 1 star as it is no longer possible to hike a bike through the app. Tried several accounts and cards, I get a variety of error messages and no success in hiring a bike. Same for three other people who wanted to cycle with me

This app worked fine until March 22 when suddenly there appeared credit card issues. Surely the developers must be aware of these issues but have not released an update since. If they are unable to fix then why not scrap current release and revert to previous one?

For a time this was a great alternative to the Lime Bikes whose app and customer service is terrible. However suddenly it stops recognising my card details and won't let you enter any new cards, great fun in the pouring rain. So I actually can't use Santander Cycles any more. Can't get through to customer services. Worse than useless.

Like the dozens of other recent reviews are saying the app has forgotten my credit card details and won't let me add a new one. I just get the error message "Error accessing your sign up information. Please log out and then log in and try again". I've done that and uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but that hasn't worked.

The app is awful . Always gives error messages and never retains card details so you have to enter them again. Then it crashes. I end up hiring a bike via the docking station access rather than the app.

I used to love this but its now virtually unusable. It sometimes works but usually says my card has 'missing or malformed parameters " without saying what is missing. Doubly infuriating as I can see a card on file which it refuse to use. Awful.

Terrible app. Can't use it to hire a bike at all. Constant problems with registering a card. When you call their customer support team, they don't seem to think there is a problem either

There's a bug where it asks you for payment method when it already has it, you put it in, then there's an error and it asks you to sign out, then it forgets your login details... not great.

App so broken, never accepts a new card in the app so can't hire a cycle. The cycle scheme is great but really let down by the app. I always suggest to friends visiting we use them but I no longer bother telling them to get the app as it never use for someone new.

Originall this was pretty good although unreliable at the margins (ie when only a few bikes or spaces). However now I cannot pay via the app, like others have said. The phone help is useless

dodgy app. the scheme is very good, but I can't rely on this app and have spent a fair amount of time speaking to the customer help people (who are fantastic). this app will always let you down.

How, how!? can this app be completely broken for months? Same story as everyone else, they lost my card details and I can't enter them again because of random errors. Also, the terminal itself won't accept Google pay, contrary to the rest of TFL.

It forgets your card details, then refuses to accept the same card, leaving you stranded. Terminals also not accepting my card, and customer service said it was a faulty terminal. But the next terminal didn't work either. Fairly sure they were fobbing me off because they were about to close, so when I rang back I couldn't get through.

Terrible, about 50 people stood around in hyde park cycle station trying to get this to work and many gave up in the end, myself included. After trying for half an hour the app would still not work. Please improve!

Payment is not working anymore eventhough it says my card is registered and active everytime to try to hire a bike I have to add my card details but the app doesnt register them. Closed and restarted multiple timeds across multiple days still not working...

The cycle scheme is meant to be free for NHS users but the app charges for NHS promo code and after using the same card since last year has suddenly not accepted my card, forcing me to go to the terminal (which also doesn't accept the promo code!) as a result it has charged me a lot of money :(
