Great adaption of the physical game, which I already love. It's a fun, quick game for the family, easy to learn but tricky to master. Only issues I found were that quite often, the tutorial videos didn't play through to the end. Only after trying to repeat playing them several times did they eventually play through. Seemed to affect tutorials randomly. Other than that, I would still highly recommend to anyone who loves strategy board games. You won't be dissapointed.
Forget about the cutesy graphics : this is at heart an abstract tactical game in the vein of chess or go. Simple to learn but hard to master absolutely applies here. And that's not even taking the special powers into account : the game is compelling enough without it, so for me the price of all the extra DLC powers aren't a bother (hint : it's STILL much cheaper than the board game+ expansion ;-)). I do miss the three and four player variant a bit, but even so : there's many hours of game here.
Great graphics, love the panoramic spin around the board and the music is pleasant. The turn sequence is a little clunky, however, and having to purchase lots of additional gods, on top of the app price, is asking a lot. Also, the Odyssey quest seems quite rigged, forcing you to pay for other gods in an attempt to beat the AI in trickier contests or just to keep the game interesting in freeing up new paths. And... no 3 player or 4 player functionality unless you fork out more money, it seems.
The game has been digitally developed much better than I was expecting, and I'm addicted. I can finally play the game on my commute, at work, and now with coworkers. The only issue I have is online mode stopped working today (couldn't find an opponent)after I played with two random opponents. I tried to connect from multiple networks and updated the app, but the game is saying I should ensure I update further. I'm sure it's a minor hiccup that will be sorted.
Great implementation, but missing a much desired online async mode common to mobile versions of board games. Microtransactions are expected with these type of apps, but is divided up strangely; be prepared to pay an extra $8 for all the current content. Lastly there doesn't seem to be support for more than 2 players; this is a small quibble since the game is best at 2p, but it lack of 3-4p does deviates from the physical version.
It's a good looking app and a faithful recreation of the board game, however AI turns take exceedingly long (2 minutes at a time) as the AI processes which move to make, and I've even had it freeze during this time which is extremely frustrating. This would be a 4 star app for me, but the AI problems and graphics demand put it lower; the frame rate when rotating screen is just awful, but hardly noticeable when you keep the screen still. Disappointed.
Love the board game but I'm not convinced the campaign is worth the money and there's a steep price to get all the gods. I've never managed to play a multiplayer game which means this is ultimately redundant. Maybe asynch play might have relived this issue. The cloud animation is distracting. Shame as this is a great implementation of the board game. Ultimately not worth it.
This is an amazing game. I have the board game too. Its awesome to be able to play my buddy online now that he lives a time zone away. This was one of our favorites! For all that they put into the digital copy, the base game, campaign, online play, and private matches, it and the pack for all the other characters are well worth it! I'm so pumped this is out! It seems to play well. The AI doesn't seem easy to beat and I haven't played on hard yet.
Great implementation, smooth play and very addicting but I can't forgive the pay to play nature once you buy the game. If you play the Odyssey (single player) mode you quickly get to a point where you have only 1-2 paths that you have to beat in order to get more challenges but those paths will have a expert(or similar) difficulty. The difficulty is fine and welcoming but it ramps up quickly and you realize to play more without suddenly becoming an expert you have to buy heros to get paths.
A very interesting and challenging game with just the right amount of difficulty. Contrary to other reviews, this game is not pay-to-win and all Odyssey battles can be won with good strategy. It has the depth of Chess while not being too overly complex. God/Hero powers provide insane replayability and variation to this Greek mythology-based tactical abstract game. Incredibly balanced, fast-paced and visually appealing.
I enjoy challenging strategy games like this that dont require a lot of reading since I'm usually listening to podcasts or audiobooks at same time. Splendor, Noch Mal, Doppelt so Clever are other good examples. Simple rules but God cards add enough variety to keep interesting. 10-15 mins a game is a nice length. Just ordered physical game! This is one of the better implemented ports of a board game. Not buggy, nor laggy. Graphics work well on phone size device. -1⭐ because AI too hard/errorless
The app is a great implementation of an outstanding board game. However for a premium app to retire an additional 1.5x the purchase price to unlock everything is extremely distasteful. I'd recommend avoiding it altogether.
No ability to play without God powers. I'm new to the game and want to play a simple game against the computer without God powers. This app is not suitable for a complete beginner as Odyssey is too difficult. I've now given up playing as it is too frustrating! Please enable simple play so I can learn. Also I tried to start a match with a friend using the same code but we kept getting error messages. Tried again today and same thing. I really give up on this whole experience. A waste of money.
I love Santorini, it's an incredibly elegant game with few rules but very deep complexity. It's like chess, except that every game is completely different from each other, thanks to the 57+ god powers available. The game implementation is very good and the AI is very challenging... HOWEVER! The app is quite expensive - total of 14 € to unlock every god - and it's impossible to find online opponents (you can play with friends and AI). Great game, but the player base is so small...
There's plenty of things I really like about it. Plays and looks great and all the tools built in make it real easy to teach. Fun little game where I can play a match in less then a half-hour. Graphical nit-pick here: Hydra and Nyx appears to have their low-res art used for their portrait art.
Good game. Great graphics. God packs go on sale often which make the game $10 total. Very difficult/challenging even at the lowest novice level. Some tutorials are missing from the helper mode. The helper mode in general is very confusing. I don't understand half the functions.
Great and beautiful game. My only concern is that the godlike AI difficulty takes a long time to process its moves. Given the time it takes I thought it would be incredibly hard to beat but I beat it on my first time and I don't think I'm an expert player. Still highly recommend the game.
I would give 5 stars if I could play without power cards. I own the physical board game, and I always play just the basic game with friends, as I prefer it. Pretty silly that it's not an option on the app.
The game is fun. However, the difficulty in Odyssey mode is based on the fact you ALWAYS have to go first. The AI is designed to mess you up first then make plans for its win. Would be nice if there were random first player in Odyssey.
I'm hesitant to give this as low a rating as 4, but i think you really need to rethink your microtransaction approach. The entry price is high enough as-is for a mobile game (but I understand- it took effort), and so I was very disappointed to find out I didn't even have access to all gods from base game unless I forfeited even more cash. I want to support Roxley and the game, but that just seems very cheeky to me. The game plays smoothly etc etc, but this pricing approach is a massive issue.
Santorini is an stellar game and this is a stellar app implementation of it. Yes, it costs money, but it is so so so worth it. The graphics are beautiful, the AI has many different levels of difficulty, the Odyssey mode (single-player campaign matches against AI) is great. I can't say enough good things. The only negative right now is that it can be hard to find a match with a real person because there isn't a very large user base yet. So if you're reading this, download the app and play!
4.5 stars. Same as the board game except solely 2 player. The AI is smart; 5 levels of difficulty and lowest is good. The amount of gods with the base game is really nice. The extras seem pricey but I'd pay that since it's so fun. Odyssey (campaign) could be longer. Online hasn't worked, I'm guessing due to lower # of players. One of the best board games and app games I've played, hours of fun. Worth it. If you're hesitant about getting the board game, get this first, then get the board game!
Just started on the app, but have the physical game, seems great so far. This needs to be on the big screen. Please can you release a PC steam version or at least browser version, cross format will exponential boost players. Star Realms does this allowing players to buy one version and get access on all others.
Good board game, slick online implementation, kick-ass AI. And a responsive development team who stomps bugs. Thanks :-) Update/bug... Game play is fine, but achievements aren't working. Odyssey related achievements register, but god specific ones do not. At least, none of those I've achieved have unlocked... Poseidon, Charybdis...
Game is fantastic. Just having difficulty playing online. It seems the queue time is very long. I check my update whether if there is an update but it seems it is the latest. Maybe if there is an in game button to automatically check update that'll be great since playing online is very valuable.
This is an infuriating game. The story mode forces you to play against gods with fully broken abilities. The game board is very small, meaning the pieces have nowhere to go. Certain abilities, like being able to block your opponents from building, effectively make it impossible to complete a legal move. It's not fun. The idea is cool, and the artwork and execution of the app are great. It just ultimately does nothing to mitigate a game with badly designed abilities that ruin the experience.
beautiful app for a beautiful game. sadly, if only the videos did not lag, there was undo without a timer, if the app's interface was more intuitive, my tablet's "return" button sometimes works as "back", sometimes as "exite game", sometimes it does not work. also - not enough promotion done for more online gamers.
