The app's pretty good for knowing about bad weather. However, instead of having one notification at the beginning of a weather event, or a non-dismissals notification for the duration (like how Google Play Music pins a song at the top of your screen when the app loses focus), it spams notifications every half hour or so. Otherwise pretty good.
Was a great app but now it's pretty useless from what I've been experiencing. Maybe it changed cause I've got a new and different phone but I doubt it. It used to be greatly detailed and extremely informative, now it is vague gives me info on weather from one end of the country to the other. I'm in Saskatchewan, I want Saskatchewan weather and DETAILS. If you can make it better so it resembles the app I had in the summer I'll give you five stars!
I installed this app several months ago and it worked fine. System is Android 4.4.2. In the last two weeks the app quit, I tried to uninstall with success. I tried a reinstall, success, then once activated got a quit working message. Uninstalled and reinstalled a few more times, same results. Has there been a problem or glitch reported?
Every time the boundaries of a weather alert change, a new alert is issued for all areas within the boundary. When there's a storm covering a large area, sections are added and removed changing the boundaries. The area in the middle doesn't change, but gets a dozen redundant alerts all day long every time the storm moves a bit and sections are added or removed at the perimeter.
The app is a good tool to have. The alerts do up the volume on your device, and will interupt whatever you are doing (even do not disturb if its a red alert). The maps and alerts are easy to understand and use.
Receiving the alerts works well and is good to know what's coming weather wise. Sometimes too many repeats for the same alert, or the alert is cancelled and then a short time later it's a new alert is issued identical to the previous one. Overall I appreciate the info.
I find this app to be reliable. Unfortunately, I live in an area where there is limited cell service and must have wifi connection to get updates and notifications. I like having it, though.
While the app is good, there is one problem. I just had the same Critical Alert message go off 3 FREAKING TIMES in a 5 minute time span at 8:38 am. I do not enjoy being woken up this early for an Alert for the Saskatoon area (I live in Regina!) as I suffer from both Primary Acute Insomnia and Restless Leg Syndrome, and most nights I'm not falling into REM sleep much before 5am. Had this Alert only gone off once, I may have been able to go back to sleep and gotten more than 3 hours of sleep.
A emergency alert is needed. If they can figure a way to have it also activate a sleeping phone it would be even better. It should also have a special ring and automated voice message for land lines.
I spend more time trying to get this app to work properly. The ladt alert from the police about a 4 year old. Will not clear so know I keep hearing the alert going off thought out the day and night. It will not uninstall completly. If you can not keep it working please get rid of it
Very useful. Not every alert, especially weather, includes the details I need to make a decision, but knowing that there is an alert is most important. Details are pretty easy to find.
Really helpful in letting me know the "calming" thunderstorm I was hearing while try to go to sleep was actually favorable conditions for a severe one which reminded me to shut both parts of my window although the android version is a bit slow in displaying alerts
The alerts are loud and jarring, which would be fine for a legitimate alert; however the only alerts I've received are for winter snowfall or summer thunderstorms... These are not severe events in my opinion, but just normal weather. Save the alerts for tornado warnings or other dangerous events
LOVE THIS APP! It makes me feel safer in times of crazy weather. I love that it alerts for critical alerts even if your volume is turned off (it's an option).
I rely on this app for notifications and warnings all the time. It was especially helpful last summer when we had that storm and possible tornado near Estevan.
I was okay with this app until the RCMP sent out 6 false alerts in one evening. I have PTSD and receiving a notice to close my blinds and lock my doors is extremely triggering. The alert was actually for a community over 4 hours away... So deleting this because the other notifications are so often and so redundant you have to turn them off. I only want to hear about ACTUAL emergencies.
I am reashured that now there is a tool to contact many people in a timely manner. Yes the sound of it is alarming but that is a good thing I can not be confused with other notifications
Great to know what emergency is going on, seems like sometimes it is a little delayed in notifying, eg. Thundershowers over by the time I get the alarm.
App gives alerts all the time, like 4 hours apart at times but worst thing is that often alerts are for conditions already presenting or that have just concluded. Not rely on it for sure
Is informative and timely. However, sends out too many repetitive alerts when no substantial change from the initial alert has occured.
Good to know weather events and boil water advisories. Right now we have a snow Storm and I'm glad to have had a heads up as we went to Saskatoon and got back before it got worse. Would be nice to add in a map section for department of highways (highway hotline) or have the link in the alert for snowstorms and such
I haul fresh drinking water to people who don't have access to. Currently hauling to Carry The Kettle First Nation b/c they're water station is inoperable. This app keeps me updated. Keep up this fantastic work! I really depend on it!
Gives weather warnings also. Edit: At the same time, I reviewed Alberta Emergency Alert app, saying they DON'T include weather alerts. Two weeks later, on the same day, Saskatchewan Emergency Alert app thanked me for my comment, then 25 minutes later, Albert Emergency Alert app says they don't included weather alerts because they "do not constitute an immediate danger to life". It's a h*ll of a coincidence that both reply to my reviews 25 minutes apart, two weeks after the reviews.
Very informative. To the point and lots of up to date info. advising well in advance what to expect.
Edit: Critical emergency alerts will turn your volume all the way up and play through earbuds or headphones at well above the maximum recommended level, there appears to be no way to avoid this, and it is painful. The app is easy to setup and use. I appreciate the warnings and like that I can take a quick glance or get more details as I need.
