I've long enjoyed the SBS News App but the latest 'improvement' where many headline stories are now only available as podcasts and no longer just a text story is a backward step. I don't want a podcast; I am actually capable if reading/skipping through a story for myself! Why do IT gurus think they have to keep changing things which don't need fixing? Not happy!
SBS is easily the best news service in Australia. Other television news services are terrible. SBS is comprehensive and show stories the other networks do not cover. Pity SBS on Demand app is one of the worst streaming apps.
It's pretty good - but there's no way to save articles or see reading history. Very annoying.
Gone downhill since new version. More ads in my face chewing up data. This behaviour is unbefitting of a public broadcaster. Unnaceptable. I'll just view the web version with adblock if I must.
Doesn't always display properly. When a tweet link is given, the image stretches forever when scrolling down. This is a recent bug
Good app. Shame about the frequently shown ads. Would be happy to pay for the app to avoid ads.
I liked the old app.. New stuff appeared at the top. Old material persisted below. Each day I read SBS before ABC or BBC news. However the new app is horrible. I cannot work out the categories in the new app. To me, it feels like chaos. So I'm thinking of removing the SBS app from my phone.
App doesn't close just sits open in bg after exiting. Can't open multiple articles at once. Needs to reflect other contemporary news hmi/ui. Opening notifications of articles doesn't always take you to the article. It takes you to sad articles that you don't want to see.
Two issues, one of which is driving me up the wall. It WON'T ALLOW ME TO PLAY VIDEOS. I can live with that but what's worse is that when you finish reading a particular story and go "back", it chucks you right back to the TOP of the list instead of "remembering" the position you were at during scrolling. So then you have to scroll down umpteen screens again to get back to where you were. Enough already. Uninstalled.
Content wise SBS is probably one of the best Australian News providers available. Unfortunately, App wise it can be a bit buggy. One very frustrating and common problem is with the notifications. They normally only link to the headline page where often the notification story / article isn't even listed, even when clicking on the notification minutes after the notification was pushed to the device. Often after clicking on the link you'll not be able to find the notification article. Also the feedback link to the developers in the preferences menu links you through to your email app to send feedback, but doesn't provide or fill in an email address to send it to... And, all of the letter (S)'s are weirdly missing from the text that has been filled in?
When a story shows on the screen of my Samsung Galaxy S7 phone and I click on it, SBS News app opens up on the general screen and I have to go searching for the story. Quite often can't find it. Also, in preferences there is a button supposedly to report a bug. But I pressed that button and was taken to an email with the address "null". In other words, not a valid email address.
Clean news but a bit pale. I like the fact that the news items are not click bait like others and not too much opiniated. Suggestion: make use of bold font for titles to make content more easily comprehensible. At the moment, the bland look of the subjects makes it difficult to grasp the content quickly. All in all good but I miss more topics like science news, economy news , sports etc...
Quick tip for the developers: in the day and age of thousands of apps, if your app sends notifications without the user expressly turning it on, it WILL BE uninstalled. And that's exactly what I did. By the way, the notification content was nowhere near relevant to me (which is why the notification should be 'off' by default, because it is impossible for you to tell what is relevant to me).
Not a big fan of biased, super woke news. Probably best going with another news app
Yes best ever sbs app, for the national and international fresher News, everytime,i activate again in India after the Australia
Reliable, free of bias, professional content. Sbs now competently occupies the space that was the domain of the ABC, before the latter embraced puff-piece journalism & journos who seem incapable of avoiding cliches such as "now" & "so" as sentence starters in live crosses.
While the international content is great, the coverage of regional Australian news is poor, even for significant floods (unless they affect a capital city). I am also increasingly annoyed by a lack of landscape orientation.
The new upgrade just released is a big big improvement! Much better layout and load speeds. Feel more inclined to using it now
I hate the new version of this app...the categories being up front might look smart, but I prefer the old format, with stories of importance first and then general interest. ABC do it much better now.
I am very disappointed with the recent 'upgrade' to this app. Some stories are repeated 3 or more times under various categories whilst others remain on the site for days.
Latest 'update' turned my favourite quick reference news app into an unintelligible, disordered.... I could go on but it's easier to just move on ...
Full of adverts ( the same few adverts repeated ). After reading an article returns you to the first article rather than the next one. Has 4 news categories but repeats same content in all 4. I've now deleted the app, the SBS news website provides the same news. If I could edit the star rating down from 2, to 1 or zero I would. Come on Google, when I report Ads for being inappropriate or repetitive I expect you to do something about it!
Had to uninstall it. Like a lot of people I get a lot of news from Facebook. I did install this app during the FB ban on Australian news sites. I went back to Facebook and discovered that when I try to navigate to an SBS page from FB, it tries to open the page in the app but kept on hanging. So I un-installed the app and now it opens immediately in my browser app. Problem fixed Sorry no choice.
Good site, but frustrating when you read further into an article, and return back to all the news feed items, it goes back to the beginning of the list rather than the news item you just read. Then you have to scroll back and past the last one read. Frustrating.
Ads in the news is not acceptable.. especially for play store. Uninstalling today SBS you've sold out!
It's fine for reading the news. However there is a major glitch. It's not possible to type in forms in the app. So I couldn't enter my address in the 'how diverse is your electorate' survey. And I couldn't send feedback. The keyboard doesn't appear. Samsung Galaxy s20 5g
