I supported this company through its Kickstarter campaign. I received the product a long time ago and after trying it, and realizing that it did nothing I put it in a drawer and forgot about it. i found it today while cleaning up around the house. Checked the reviews and realized based on the current reviews that it still does nothing. Don't waste your money like i did.
Never seen a more useless product. You need to tell the app what you are scanning and it will give you a generic or fictive feedback, based on the color of the surface I guess.
The device is a scam it does nothing even close to what was promised by the team. The scanner is barely functional and the data passed across to the app is useless. Notice their team are only responding to positive reviews and ignoring any negative reviews from kickstar backers that helped them fund the development. Stay clear of this device and the app it's a scam
I haven't purchased the device yet and hoped to see any demo mode. App grabs your reg. info on first screen and then forces you to pair before anything else. Reading other reviews I realized why. One of the reviewers mentioned that app will not display or export any quantitative spectrum measurements unless you shell out $750 for a dev. license. I wish them good luck with this business model. Hardware was tore down by SparcFun looked custom and maybe even expensive, but useless without open API.
Awful and unpleasant customer services, this app is severely limited. New user registration no longer possible. A user needs a Res./Dev license from Scio to do anything useful . Comparable alternative NIR devices allow users to export raw data and to publish data without the need to pay for another license. As an independent Researcher (PhD in Analytical Chemistry), my opinion is that Scio has done more damage than good in terms of bringing science to general public. Stay away from Scio.
This item is awful. I couldn't get any accurate information when using this item but the good news is that I found a more information about this on ⚡ 👣's channel
We have been using these devices for about 1 year now for testing dry matter percentage in feeds on dairy farms. It has become a mission-critical tool used daily for many of our customers and for our nutrition team. What most of these reviewers don't seem to understand is that you need comparison data collected before it will do anything for you. The Forage Feed and Corn on the cob applets we use are very developed and make this into an invaluable tool. Without that, its just a fancy camera....
worthless for the consumer who made tbis happen through Kickstarter. Does almost none of the things claimed.
Bought the device but can use it. It's requiring my to get a developer license!
Costly item. can't use for accurate testing
Intuitive and technically amazing
Beautiful useless piece of junk. Payed Dev license? Are you kidding, f...ing scammers?
Nice apps . U need infrared module on your device
Scam, Don't buy! Lookup user thunderf00t on YouTube and hes revealing of this scam!
It wanted access to my phone to make calls?
the decide does do anything it was promised. BS.
It's a scam. The device doesn't actually do what it promises. I hope you didn't waste your money on this product.
Absolute scam, does nothing that it claimed it could do!
Scam! Snake oil - an absolute waste of money.
Absolute rubbish. A very expensive piece of useless junk. DO NOT BUY! The team at consumer physics are lying through their teeth, this device does literally nothing they promised it would. When i attempted to contact them, they lied further, claiming the scio actually does something and gave me some legal terms given by their lawyers ti civer their lying behinds. Disgusting behaviour and absolute thieves
It is having very limited applets did i expect more from coneumer physics
The app looks promising and the hardware is not bad, but as a scientific tool its pretty much useless since it doesn't give you any detailed information. I unfortunately have to agree that right now it's just a very expensive toy. Update: I wouldn't buy this anymore as it really did not deliver what was promised. The negative reviews are right. Another Kickstarter disappointment. Another nail into Crowdfundings coffin.
I payed $250 for the device and waited 2 years, and was led to believe that it was a pocket molecule scanner. I now have to laugh at this and myself for being sold a lie. The company has said that i need to pay an extra $250 for a developer license. This has destroyed any and all potential for me. I now just talk people out of buying it. You cannot really do anything such as analyze what makes up a string. You will need to depend on their good will for apps that do specific things like what is the percentage of dark chocolate. So 99% of it is junk. It takes a lot of chutzpah for this app to even get listed as a scanner. I was misled and so were the majority of their kickstarters. Beware the tides of March with this company.
Open up the data, free up the Dev license and let the community develop more apps. Otherwise we have a single pointless app.
The app is great. The device is barely functional and the support is appalling even after buying the full developer licence. Avoid
Good app dont belive the negative comments all these do not has money to buy it and they are shouting her it is a good device all do not has money to buy it and dont think they have used it
i cannot calibrate my scio device using the app or the button? error message "did not calibrate" on phone screen
250$ product with software behind a pay wall
It doesn't do anything, you tell it what you are scanning and it returns average nutrition values for the product type. Without access to the actual spectral data it is 100% useless.
