great group of journalists, I love to comment and read other people's comment about the articles. it's very unique. it's one of my go-to reads as I make my way to the Balkans news. if you're looking for other perspective Independence journalism I absolutely recommend. 😁

it's a easy UI so too retrieve Relevant stories happening now. I've been a subscriber for a year and good reading.

This is a very expensive subscription - more than NYT and WSJ and - and they try to portray themselves as unbiased and objective. How objective can something be that is run under a communist party? What exactly is the purpose of pricing this so high? I really don't get it.

This used to be a really good app. All the news items were clearly ordered one after the other according to different categories. You could page down and pen the itens you were interested in. Now it is very confusing, large headlines obscuring other articles, then you page down, and articles you've just read keep reappearing. It gives the impression it has been designed by a monkey. I wish I could go back to the previous version. It says so much better.

As with all news sources, there is a taste of their political bias in their articles. Even with this bias, I trust it as a source of reliable information, although i use it in combination with multiple other news outlets to get the complete picture. The app itself is pretty great, with a sleek and simple interface that mimics but is not a cut and paste job of the desktop website.

Filled with disruptive ads and pop-ups even after paying for a subscription. Logs you out periodically for no reason. Poor UI. The news is decent, but I've unsubscribed for the reasons above.

Ads load just fine but the articles load at a super slow rate.

I have paid for subscription, it is well worth it. It's like educating yourself, and knowing sometimes information is not all given for free. Also, the news outlet considers my opinion.

Unable to open the SCMP App even tho I have uninstall and re-install the SCMP App as well as reset my smartphone, it is still acting up and unable to access and read the news on SCMP App. I am an annual subscriber having purchased and paid a year subscription in advance and am very unhappy on this matter.

Terrible app, paying still means lots of advertisements and you're also forced to receive email newsletters even though you never sign up for them, definitely run by people at the lower end of society.

App not working. It says it cannot connect to the internet. Only ads show. Everything else works on the phone as usual. I paid for the subscription and can't even use it.

While reading an article, the screen turns black and the app exits back to the main page. This happens every so often and is incredibly annoying, rendering the app useless. The issue has not been fixed with the "most updated version" of the app. Disappointed.

I have posted 3 times but no reply! I am having problem that my scmp notifications on the status bar of my phone automatically disappears after few hours (basically a notification timeout). So I keep losing notifications of new articles without opening them. This has been happening since 10 months. I have deleted all my recent installed apps but it still doesn't solve the issue. I am using Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus. Can you pls help me urgently how to fix this issue? Maybe send me a patch??

Great app -surprisingly polished. I recommend the SCMP for content - it is evenhanded and highbrow. The forums are the best I've found.

I paid a 💯 USD year subscription to this digital app. Don't buy it. Forces me to watch the same old advertising EVERY TIME I turn it on with my phone app. Can't get to content until the ad finishes. And... the subscription won't allow me to access through my computer browser. I paid fofor it. Online chats were useless. Customer service is awful . Same content avaible on Bloomberg and othe journals. Cancel when the year is up.

too much ads for someone already subscribed, imagine an article with 6 paragraphs that comes with 6 ads at each paragraph intervals, thats what you getting with scmp (android version), even after you have subscribed! also it is very easy to misclick those ads as you scroll, so you end up having a bunch of apps randomly open while you trying to read.

Goodbye SCMP. Originally the move to have to have a validated account to allow comments was ok for me as almost never commented. however the change to the subscription service and the fact that the app in its current state is just plain BS. Get logged out at random, cannot down or up vote comments even after login. not to mention the endless list of normal navigation issues.

absolutely horrible! I was charged the yearly fee & cancelled the same day, but was unable to receive a refund. I'm so disappointed and now don't even have enough money to buy my food. Disgraceful. On top of this you can just access 90% of SCMP's stories from Instagram FOR FREE

Paid edition has so many micro-targeted/personally-focused ads that it's impossible to focus on reading the news. I'm lowering/stopping my use of this app because of these way-too-many ads. I made a costly $ mistake by subscribing to the SCMP app. I hate all these overly personal pushy ads. I wish I could stop this awful subscription and get my $ back!

It was once a rather lovely news reading app, with well written articles and well designed pages......But now with the introduction to the super costly subscription introduced, it leaves people who does not or cannot afford to pay with NOTHING, in so the app to me is now useless. And I've also noticed the range of topics also decreased...... I'll soon be deleting the app, unless they introduced some free articles available to unsubscribed audience....

Huge bug in the new version : it seems that randomly the first article is always displayed whatever article you want to read. When this happens the only thing you can do is fully close the app and restart. Seriously considering uninstalling - this is just unusable with this bug.

Great app if you like massive distracting ads that occupy more space than the article itself and obnoxious autoplay videos that are just as distracting and frequent plastered all over the article. Uninstalled. If you really must read this site, do it via a web browser with adblock software and autoplay disable functions. News sites need funding to survive but the way the SCMP goes about it is ridiculous.

The new design is very poor, user unfriendly. One news headline occupies too much space, can't look for many headlines at one time. Worst of all, can't highlight and copy the words. Prefer the old version.

I have subscribed but still get this pop up ad every time when I open the App in Android. This means a 5 seconds delay every time you use the app. Shouldn't this "welcome" ad feature be disabled with Subscriptions? Other banners and in article ads are understandable and can get used to but the delay in opening the app will be a deal breaker to many who really use the app more than a few times a day. Otherwise, this should deserve a 4/5 stars
