Scribd - Reading Subscription

Search and discovery could be improved. It is a pity that some titles are only available as audiobooks... But once you found something you like, the reading experience is great. And the sheer number of books call for the quite well made library functions such as lists and offline reading. Last caveat : a subscription is, I think, the best way to appreciate all this app has to offer. Consider it as private library membership fees.

Less than average because the notes part of these kind of app is essential to me. With Scribd you can take notes but there is a bug (custom font size + Huawei p30). When you take a not on one page you can't take another one or have to change to another page and come back to the one you want to take the note from. Second, the notes that are more than 3 lines are just a link to the book page, it's not efficient at all if you want to read all your notes. Third, the notes can't be exported.

Edit: after a period of no Scribd, I'm back and I'm happy for it. There are so many titles and unlike audible, the unlimited catalogue provide books you would want to read. I would like an option that shows in someway completed audiobooks. I would like to be able to manually choose when I have read it too, as I could have read that particular book on another app. Is that a feature you'd consider?

5/14/22; 6 months in, I can give a more in depth review. It barely keeps 3 star rating. There is still no widget. C'mon! And I've noticed a Huge issue with app interfacing with Android Auto. It doesn't work! If I start listening and get out of the car, it doesn't restart and if I press play, it's buffering. I have to control things with my phone. Not easy when I'm driving. Magazines are ok. Photos are clumped at start or end and HUGE margins! Not visually appealing. Needs improving all around.

They trick you with the free trial. I am 5 months in on my paid subscription and all of a sudden I can't read certain books I have saved! I see now it says they "rotate" titles.... No they just want to make sure you pay for the next month so they hold out on books you are in the middle of... I use the app for research and generally only ready a chapter out of each or so but now I can't go back to reference. I will cancel if this is not fixed!

Where has this been all my Life!?! Great variety of titles in a great variety of topics and authors. My one and only nitpick is I wish the audiobooks were higher quality and that maybe there were audio quality options for streaming and downloads. Other than that, this app is perfect for readers like me.

This app is good and reliable for $10 a month. A great selection. But it's also false advertising in a way. They claim it's "unlimited" but once you make an account and save the books/audiobooks you want to read, they cap you after about 4 books or so. Meaning they take the ones you saved, and put them as "available soon" Meaning you have to wait till next pay period. It's frustrating because you'll be listening to a book and it's gone.

Great except for the pause button on audio. I'm very happy with my subscription and with the app in general. It's easy to search and find books and other material, to filter saved items and specific formats, and to download for offline reading. The one thing I really dislike is that I have to hit the pause button at least 3 times before it actually pauses. I don't have that problem with other apps. Also it would be nice if the speed was more customizable. But overall, 👍👍

This review is about the app, not the service. As a book reading app it is functional but only barely. Swiping on the edges of the screen for adjusting brightness or text size. When highlighting a section that follows through to the next page, the page should move automatically, but it does not. There must be an option to mark a book as read without actually going to the last page (not everyone reads the acknowledgments or bibliography!) but there isn't. Very clunky app.

The app is practically unusable, it closes randomly no matter how many settings I try to adjust, or even if I keep the screen unlocked with the app open. If I can get through 30 minutes without it suddenly closing it's a miracle. Additionally, the genre tagging is baffling. I started listening to "In the House of the Spirits" because it was in the fantasy/science fiction category, but it's a historical fiction novel with the only element of fantasy being that one character has green hair.

Love this app! This app is incredible. I'm a huge audiobook fan. I was signed up for audible but you get one book a month on that. With this you get unlimited books, magazines and audiobooks. They have a great selection. It's reasonably priced. The only complaint is if you read a lot one month they take away the really popular book selection for the remainder of the month. However you have to go thru a ton of books to hit that. I can't figure out how this app offers so much for the price we pay

TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!!Was thoroughly enjoying this app. So much I rated it 5 stars. However today almost all of my saved books are "unavailable"(conveniently until after my next billing date)many of which I'd already started. There was no type of alert/warning. After more searching I found almost the entire catalog originally offered is now unavailable as well and the quality of the remaining titles are definitely not worth the money. I will not be renewing my membership.

GREAT WHEN IT WORKS... the only problem: it is just constantly freezing, and for scribd to be such an incredible platform, this app is very disappointing. For now, I think I'm gonna stick to the web version (note: for readers, don't hesitate to get this subscription, I spend almost all my time on this now, but stick to the web version. FAR better than this.

Update: Have been using Scribd for over a year now and while there are a lot of things I like about it, I really dislike how often it crashes. It crashes several times an hour sometimes. Makes it hard to use when I'm working or driving because I can't reboot it. ======== There have been a few titles it doesn't have, but for the most part I am very pleased with the selection. I like that in the car when I use it with maps, it pauses when the map gives direction so I don't miss a word.

This service would be amazing but the app keeps stopping randomly. I would give this service 5 stars except this is a major problem. It's incredibly frustrating to be listening to an audiobook and the app just stops working. Listening to an audiobook during work the app shuts down 5-10 times on its own. The only way to fix it each time is to shut down the app and start over. If this was not happening I would have rated 5 stars. But with that being the reality I have to rate this app very low.

Really great selection. Easy to use. Less expensive than other subscription apps. I've only used it a short time, but it is the best I've found for the money. With both books and audiobooks you definitely get more bang for your buck. Easy to save the books you want to be sure to go back to. Love that you don't have to deal with credits. Was easy to install on both my phone and my Kindle Fire. I was dubious at first when I saw the Instagram ad, but I'm very happy I checked it out.

5/14- I have access to a my books sometimes I wish there were more but it's just because they have so many they have to interchange because this app is for every culture and types of things like documents, audio books, novellas. It also is also for when I'm reading it offers audio book for it right there a lot. No cliffhangers for me!! I have always loved this app but- (Old complaint immediate assistance)

So many books and audiobooks!! Such a inexpensive option. I looked at other audiobook membership programs and I just couldn't bring myself to pay a monthly fee AND have to pay per book. When I discovered SCRIBD I was skeptical but decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did! I highly recommend it! It has just as many book/audiobook options compared to a popular competitor but its not painful for the wallet. Try SCRIBD free for the first month and see for yourself. So glad I did!

Browsing can be a little frustrating since there appears to be only two sorting features for results; best-selling or recent. Way more filtering and sub category options are needed.. Also the sheer amount of public domain librivox content (which is already free with the librivox app) in audiobooks makes finding new stuff like digging through a bin at a thrift store. I mean 19th century history books are interesting on a historiography level, but they're also outdated and mostly inaccurate.

I liked using the app, but when I unsubscribed I was still billed the month afterwards. When I checked my payment history I noticed that all the previous months I was billed the double amount of the subscription cost. When pointing this out at the customer support they told me they will not pay me back. Answer to Scribd reaction: the cancellation charge is not the problem, that's already solved. The problem is I was charged double for the whole subscription and you don't want to solve that.
