SD Card Monitor
This app will help you know if the card is defective or not, as sometimes bad SD cards are unmounted/mounted in the background and you are unaware of it, which is causing the "Media" process to scan the card every time the card is mounted, hence consuming the battery significantly.
If by any chance you saw this notification: "sd card removed unexpectedly", I recommend to install this app and monitor how many times it has been mounted/remounted in the background.
Also if you noticed the "Media" process is eating your battery, give it a try too.
Note:Please note that everytime the you restart yout phone, you will see 1 unmount and 1 eject in the counts and in the logs, so this is a normal Android behavior and NOT a bad SD card.

My Galaxy S3 would work fine for months with an SDHC card, and then start to complain the card was missing. This app helped me to verify that there is a problem with the S3 that causes it to destroy cards. It doesn't help fix the problem but at least I had some advance warning!

The S8 had a bad problem with SD card stability. This helped me identify the issue was resolved in the latest patch.
Fantastic little app, just what I needed. Didn't realise how much my faulty SD unmounted, ejected and remounted in one day... So much battery wasted. Got a new SD, still using this app, no problems now :-)
Have removed my sd card as a result. Of exactly the problem suggested here, and finding it by using this app. Simple and effective if you suspect your battery drain could be caused by this.
To the people rating the app poorly because it doesn't fix YOUR problems, get a grip. This app is purely a counter for sd card removals and does not claim to fix any thing. Lives to description perfectly

Fantastic app, a must have if you suspect you are having issues with your sd card. Would give five stars if there was an option to export the log file.
The app doesn't work on my new phone a LG V20 running Android v7.0.
wont uninstall, no option to even uninstall, even did factory reset. saying my device been modified and wont allow updates. DO NOT install this, its there forever no matter what if you do your screwed!!!!

My sd card has mounted 25 times in the last 3 days. No unmounts or anything else! Do I have a bad sd card?

Telling me the sd card unmounts is nice but what I need it to tell me how the hell to fix it..... you got an app for that?
When I first got this phone my data on the sdcard would disappear and reappear. Sometimes the phone would even ask me if I wanted to format the sdcard to access it when it was already formatted and with data on it. I used this to help Samsung repair fix the problem of my sdcard remounting/mounting multiple times in an hour.. Ended up replacing the pba board and the issue hasn't come back in weeks. Hope it never comes back..
