Sea Hero Quest

"It’s not just a game, it’s a quest to help scientists fight dementia!”
It sounds too good to be true but this really is a game, where simply by having loads of fun chasing creatures around magical seas and swamps, you can help to fight a disease that currently affects 45 million people worldwide.

In fact playing SEA HERO QUEST for just 2 minutes will generate the equivalent of 5 hours of lab-based research data.

Created by GLITCHERS, presented by Deutsche Telekom and supported by scientists from University College London and University of East Anglia and the lovely people at Alzheimer’s Research, SEA HERO QUEST is an epic culmination of science and gameplay that will change the way dementia research is done forever.

One of the first symptoms of dementia is loss of navigational skills. Doctors cannot differentiate between getting lost caused by disease and getting lost caused by natural ageing because a benchmark of “normal” does not exist.

Until now … because as you play, your navigational data is tracked anonymously, stored securely and combined with every other player from around the globe, to create the world’s largest crowd sourced data set benchmarking human spatial navigation. This incredible resource will eventually lead to the development of new diagnosis tools and treatments for dementia.

Navigate Arctic Rivers, Golden Shores and Mystic Marshes (and Kano Reef coming soon, Kaano fans!), collect memories in your journal and chase magical creatures like Adorabella, Galleo and Octopoid. Collect as many starfish as possible and use them to customise your boat with a new lick of paint, a host of flags and much more!

Deutsche Telekom believes that life is for sharing, that’s why they are presenting SEA HERO QUEST – a game to help scientists fight dementia and work towards a future where memories are shared not lost before their time.

Join the Quest and be a real-life hero.

Awesome! This game really could actually test our capabilities in short memory and navigating with visual memory. i'm glad to know about how this game is actually for medical purposes also. what a nice game with a simple gameplay and a good looking artstyle and having playing it means that you helped researchers towards something good.

5 stars for everything, except the controls. I'm not sure if they have to be thay clunky for science reasons, but I find it hard to navigate the ship.

Quite challenging at times. Sometimes easy. Rewarding to know that playtime contributes to dementia research. But PLEASE change the music!

Your research will be squewed because my daughter and I share the game. She is an 8 year old girl and I am a 38 yr old man. Further, the minimum age that can be input is 16! I guess that a lot of the data you receive from different accounts will be inaccurate due to this - kids always play on their parents' phones.

What an awesome little experience... I loved playing it, knowing I'm helping a lot of people by simply having fun, which is honestly great. Thanks for this game! 💜

Absolutely pointless, main idea is to gather research from playing it but you can't because of the crappy controls making results pointless aswell.

A fantastic gamification effort! Makes me want to do something similar with my research! Well done and good luck!

A very simple but enjoyable game. It's just a pity they no longer need our help and withdrew the game.

I loved knowing I was contributing to Alzheimer's research and I generally enjoyed the game. Definitely would suggest x

Steals less of your personal information than Facebook, and uses it for a much more noble cause

OH MY GOD... This game is the best game I ever played. Its better than cut the rope 2. DON'T TAKE THE GAME DOWN, PLEASE, THIS GAME IS TOO GOOD

No matter how well you remember the maps and how to navigate between the buoys, the control, at least in an Android phone, are horrible. Success has nothing to do with navigation. The aims of the study are fantastic but I worry that results will be significantly skewed by device used and it's failure to do what the user tells it to do.

Noble reasons behind the game but the game itself is pretty poor. Played through a dozen levels, all exactly the same, no variation.

I didn't quite understand the rules. And the navigation is definitely clunky. The game with the flare is incomprehensible when it comes to direction choosing. And I'm generally really good at reading maps, this is doing nothing for my confidence

I played for 90 minutes. But to be honest I got bored of guessing where to go on the buoy maps. The only levels I enjoyed were the flare levels. I know it's free and I know it's for research but like I say it was just case of guessing and using instinct. Hate me all you want, I don't care
