Secret of Mana

Initially released in Japan in 1993, Secret of Mana took the world by storm with its innovative real-time battle system and gorgeously rendered world. It continues to stand out among other action RPGs for its seamless gameplay that anyone from beginner to veteran can enjoy. One of the most memorable elements of the Mana series is the Ring Command menu system. With the single press of a button, a ring-shaped menu appears on the screen, where players can use items, change weapons, and do a variety of other actions without needing to switch screens. This Ring Command menu system for which the Mana series is so well known was first introduced in Secret of Mana and has since appeared in most games in the series.Play as Randi and his two companions, Primm and Popoi, as they adventure all around the world. At the center of our epic story is the mystical power of Mana. Battle the empire in its quest for control of Mana. Befriend the eight elementals who wield the forces of nature itself. Numerous encounters await at every turn.
This game supports peripheral controllers.

This game is actually good and the controls are fine but when I discovered that there are 4 Item / Skill shortcut, The game just became easier despite the lower fixed frame rates. Gold drops are very abundant and a character does not die if another character Cast a healing spell on the injured character and is being hit by its enemies to 0 HP before the spell is completed.

Loved it years ago on the SNES, so I figured why not? Well this is why not: The graphics are choppy anytime you move around, controls are clunky, and there is a lovely bug where if you are hit, there's a good chance that you'll be locked in place for a while, still able to take more hits. This becomes a huge problem when your fighting two enemies who corner lock you and drop.you all 200 hp, plus the extra 200 you gained by using a healing item, killing you with no way to stop it. Literally. Zero. Ways. Out.

One of my SNES favs. The port only gets 3 stars. I'm running a Note 10, which emulates PS2, Wii, PSP, and everything else flawlessly with high settings. However, this port is a choppy mess. It feels like I'm trying to run the game on an old Nokia brick. The on-screen controls constantly clash with a controller, many times resulting in having to close the app to regain control. If they would just add an option to completely disable the on-screen controls it would improve this app substantially.

I took a risk and bought the app, despite the reviews saying there were a bunch of errors; I figured I could ask for a refund within the first day if I encountered any problems. It's nearly a week later, and I am SO glad I bought this game while it was on sale. There are no problems with the game (so far, and I'm about 6 hours in), and it's just as beautiful, just as fun, as I remember it being. The controls are easy to figure out although switching between the three main characters can sometimes be a pain, especially during the frenzy of boss battles. The menu ring system, when not in boss battles, is still ingenious. This is one of the very few RPGs I actually enjoy grinding XP for. SO glad I got this game.

Little glitches make it impossible to enjoy playing. Directional pad is ridiculously annoying to use. The boss monsters no longer freeze when targeted by spells which makes defeating them next to impossible, but your characters freeze when you are targeted. Walking to different screens makes the screen freak out. Flipping through your menus takes way longer and more effort than necessary. Don't bother downloading. Play the original or an emulator.

I'd give it five stars if it was a direct port. A few of the most important aspects have been disabled. For example when you pause in the snes version to use magic you can pause as many times as you want... In this version it stops you for a second which allows bosses to kill you, so unbelievably frustrating, you lose a player with full mp because you couldnt pause in time!! Better off with an snes emulator

I was not sure if this game was still going to hold up, as it's been a really long time since I last played it, I'm glad to say it does. This port is great, there are a number of options to get around the limitations of it being on a touch screen phone and I find the nature of the game translate well to mobile gaming, short missions and the new auto save function means that you can dive in and just enjoy the combat.

A MUST SKIP. Very average and waste of money. No Bluetooth option for controller. Game screen doesn't take up entire phone screen, thus my thumbs and fingers have to stretch more to play. After 15 minutes my fingers are sore. Tap to interact with menus is off. Have to tap around icon to get a successful interaction. This could have been made a lot better if effort put into it.

If I go into options, it instantly throws me off the app. If I start new game I get to choose a name, but as soon as I press to proceed it throws me off the game. Whatever it is, I hope you fix it because within then next 24 hours I'll be uninstalling if the issue is still occuring, nobody needs to download a game to find out that they can't even play it because the developers couldn't figure it out 😬

Downloaded and the controls were stuck. Stuck in the menus rapidly going through the options with no opportunity to stop, and once finally lucking out and hit new game,in -game was stuck running down right. Restarted but it was the same. Bummed because I was really stoked to play an old favorite game. If someone can give any tips, ill re-download because I'd really liked this game to work

good concept, continuosly drew to the bottom right for some reason. i first noticed, when the first options bar popped up, it scrolled through everything until i button mashed the right combonation to get it to hold still, selecting the option was a whole other excerize, looked really interesting, but unfortunatley i barely got to pick up the sword before it became too much to handle.

Avoid. Really slow and bad controls. Don't take the risk and waste your money. Previous review implies you can get a refund within a day if you decide the app is not working well enough for you - this is NOT true - and seems to be misleading for games sold here in general.

One of my favorite games from the old SNES days but this mobile port is really glitchy. Movements keeps getting stuck going in one direction and makes it difficult to play.

Great game real time side scroll RPG. I played this excellent game when I was a kid. After dumping hours of time into this game, I ran into a bug where I couldn't cast certain spells... like Healing. Eventually, the bug hindered my progress in certain levels, so I gave up playing the game.

The game crashes randomly. I'm about 6 hours in, and the game is getting to be nearly unplayable it crashes so frequently. The last update (as of my writing this) shows as 2016. that's about 3 years, so I don't expect any response to this. Buyer beware!

Awesome port of an incredible game, but the lack of any ability to transfer the app to an SDcard has led to some serious problems for me on my latest device. I love Square-Enix games, but not so much that I want to spend almost as much time deleting and re-downloading them as I do playing them. Unfortunately this is what I have to do now if I want to enjoy any ports of these classics. If the devs make the app transferable to an SDcard I'll definitely be adding 4 more stars to my review.

this is a terrible port. not all the sound fx are there like the sword slash is missing and the tink sound when you reach 100% doesn't happen either. its like they did the work to make it look like secret of mana in the pictures, but it just isnt the same. i played until first save after beating the mantis and immediately got a refund. save your money for literally anything else

After reading the reviews I was a bit skeptical but downloaded it anyways. I am not having any of the problems that some of the other users we're having so maybe has to do with your device but I'm unsure. All I know is I am happy with the download as I am about an hour into it and it sure brings back great memories from my childhood. I have also downloaded Chrono Trigger and I'd also like to see Breath of Fire and lufia and Super Mario RPG legend of the Seven Stars

Nik. S. Mar 27, 2021

Just wanted to play my all time favorite classic rpg but the gameplay amd menu controls are TERRIBLE and there's no descriptions on items to know what they are or who they are for. I remember some things but not everything and shouldn't have to play from memory. So disappointed 😞

B. Mar 2, 2019

Read the recent reviews. It's broken and nobody is fixing it. You will come to a point after putting in a few hours that is impossible to progress past, everytime you try the game crashes. Do not spend money on this.

I purchased and played this game about 2 years ago and I loved it. I am now playing the remake on my ps4 and Im stuck and have no idea where to go. Walkthroughs did not make sense. So, I got my family library and download this version bc I prefer it and didn't remember getting lost back then. Now after the opening screen, when I selectnew game, the screen goes to black n does not work. Now I can't even play this game I love at all. Square if you're listening: refund me or I won't buy your games.

DO NOT PURCHASE!!!! I went against my better judgement and bought this anyway because it was on sale but this game DOES NOT WORK AT ALL!!!! Installed, started the game up and it just continuously crashes as soon as I tap "start game." Can't play this at all. Tried freeing up space, restarting my device and even reinstalling and got nothing but crashes. Garbage! Take this off the Play Store!!!! It's a failed app! Getting a refund.

Overpriced & controls are awful. Would not recommend for anyone that enjoyed the original - get an emulator instead. Shonky controls render it almost unplayable, and if you don't request a refund within two hours you're screwed.

Worth every penny! For the record, I did not play the original game on the SNES, and I went into this game knowing very little of about the series in general. I had previously played the Sword of Mana game on the GBA, so that's something that sparked my curiosity about the fabled Secret of Mana. And I've gotta say, it didn't disappoint me in any way. For a game as old as it is, it aged like a fine wine. If you even remotely interested in trying it out, just buy it, you won't regret it!
