Seedship

An AI ship full of frozen colonists must find the best planet to be the new home of the human race. A randomly-generated text-based strategy game.

Push your luck: do you settle here, on this not-quite-ideal planet, or keep searching and risk your ship being damaged in the journey? The planets you encounter are randomly generated, and as you travel you encounter random events, so each playthrough is different. See the stories of the colonies you found, and keep trying for a higher score.

There is only ever one word that can describe this game: "Phenomenal". It's an absolute masterpiece and an absolute pleasure to play. There are a few minor drawbacks, however. 1) The graphics are perhaps a little too simplistic. This doesn't affect enjoyment, but it might be too...retro.. for new players. 2) There are many events that are posted in various Seedship communities that have never occured to me, and I'm a bit miffed. Something like a "Coincidence" gamemode could be implemented.

I've been playing this for literal years now. This is a lovely way to pass the time with lite scifi, randomly generated storytelling. It's honestly quite good, and I enjoy trying to get the best possible planet for my colonists, out of a mix of correct divisions and lucky coin flips. Fully recommend, wish there was more content, wish that other space story crafting games of similar scale had such imagination.

The Earth is gone. You are a seedship, going from planet to planet to find a new home for mankind, and making critical choices on their behalf. A very simple premise, but one with plenty of interesting developments, difficult decisions, ethical implications, and just amazing narrative twists. The game is very minimalistic, with no graphics at all, but the stories it tells are some of the best randomly-generates sci-fi you'll see. Highly recommend.

Lol I wish it had a updated version. Like maybe some pictures of the planets and maybe alil slide show at the end when you pick your planet also maybe a voice setting so it'll read to you. Artistic previews. All in all a wonderful game. Had it on my phone on and off since it came to be. I love it! And strongly recommend it to others aswell

I have had this game for a while now and I feel like I can finally leave a good review. I have found this game to be a very unique experience, the concept of playing as an AI guided ship to secure a colony makes for an interesting game. Making the choices on a planet can have catastrophic effects on your colonists but almost none of the planets are perfect. This game has you take hard decisions in the name of the colony.

After 50 scenarios, you'd know the success rate of each decision. Sacrificing colonists tend to give better results most of the time. The game leaves a lot to be desired though. Maybe a bit of asteroid evasion minigame. Overall, the game would be perfect if it was merged with space invaders and asteroids.

Super engaging even with short play time! This is my favorite game to play. More possibilities would always be welcome, but there really are a lot, too. And though luck is a factor in how good your colony ends up, it absolutely takes skill and difficult decision-making too. Concerning graphics, they are kind of irrelevant. It's a text-based game where storytelling and imagination fill in imagery. The game isn't designed for graphics, but for an even higher experience.

Really fun and unique. The scoring system gives me motivation to continue playing, despite how short each game is, and so far it hasn't gotten too repetetive. More variety in the problems and choices you must face would make it more interesting, however. I'm not sure how that could be done, but black holes, radiation, and asteroids are getting a bit boring. EDIT: Since writing my original review, I've spent more time playing and have encountered a lot of things I'd never seen before. 5 stars!

This is a wonderful game. The concept is really awesome and the fact that it's minimalistic makes it great. It's really fun to pass time and I've really enjoyed playing it. It also hardly occupies any memory of the device. However, like everything, this game also has it's shortcomings, and I'd like to see the following changes: 1. Have a bit more variation coz the game starts getting repetitive. 2. Have more default names for the planets coz the same names get used over and over again. Keep It Up

Really immersive text adventure that is hard to put down once the stakes start going up (damaged scanners, landing system, etc). Interesting descriptions of alien lifeforms and how far along they are in technological development. I do wish there was more exposition at the end of missions, because some of them will last for a while before you finally have to land, but it's not distracting enough to warrant one less star. I'm still looking forward to starting a new file every time I finish one.

A short game, but an effective one. You feel a little nervous making different choices. You hope that you've done well and that your colonists will still have the tools they need to finish their journey and live well. And it's satisfying, those times when it works out at the end of the game. That's pretty good for a purely text-based game that lasts a few minutes for each playthrough. Excellent work! PS: Love the little graphical touches, like your readings flickering when they come online.

Bloody good! Currently played through several times; it's like you can make each play through last as long as you want (or until the ship can no longer continue.) Like the fact each play through is random and each outcome is different. You can see the dedication and pride that has gone into this! The only that I would change would be: to be able to manage the community a little as they disembark, although the this would contradict your position as the AI. Well done! Keep up this level of hard work!

The randomness of the encounters and planets leads to replayability, but it also removes any bit of skill from affecting the outcome. It simply becomes hoping for a good planet while redirecting damage between the ship's critical systems. I love the concept, and the minimal design works well, but I can see how some players get tired of it quickly.

Ad-free, no microtransactions, just a fun free game. A good amount of thought seems to have gone into it. Every decision entails a balance of risk and reward, and just when I think I've found every possible event another one pops up. Sometimes the going gets so rough it's just about cutting your losses, but having the humans survive on a hostile planet as brutal cavemen is still better than letting them die in space.

It was fun and quite interesting. Enjoyed reading the details of each situation, but replayability feels limited. Patterns become apparent. Your success is largely out of your control. The longer you play the more beat up your ship becomes and the lower your score. Ship damage is mostly inevitable. Much time is spent simply directing damage. So you are best off if you find a planet quick, but planets are pretty random until you improve your sensors to better filter through them.

It's very intriguing and unique, although the probabilities are messed up and far from realistic. First off, the more you travel, the less probable your people will survive, which is kind of strange when you find a perfect new homeworld. It so happens that I tested 20 times in a row to just colonize the very first planet and every single time they survived even with the worst conditions. I tested 15 games with a voyage of at least 10 planets where the colony conditions were almost perfect, as in no red parameters and maximum two yellow parameters, and 13 out of the 15 colonies got extinct post-landing. Secondly, the stories of surviving colonies are sometimes far beyond realistic, with humans with sophisticated stone and wood tools (where does the wood come from?) on a planet without an atmosphere, without vegetation and with extreme temperatures. How is that possible? This definitely needs to be fixed. Therefore minus one star.

I love this game. Easy to use and understand. It builds a whole universe of possibilities for the colonists to habitate. There are a few curve balls that make it repayable for a long time. I downloaded it a year ago and still play it on occasion. I do wish there was a seedship2 to integrate more possibilities or expand upon colonization choices but overall it is great as it stands.

Great little time waster; I find myself clicking away at night trying to find the perfect combination of atmosphere, gravity, water, resources, and temperature to found a colony on. It's actually got quite a lot of potential, even for what amounts to being a choose your own adventure. Unfortunately, I cannot give this more than 3 stars due to the severe lack of positive random events. And to be fair, I don't consider being able to upgrade the scanners one at a time every 5 or so planets a positive event. Every time you leave a planet, something bad happens. Like, in every game I've played, something bad happens after every planet. Whether it's some object that you don't know what it is coming at you, or you have to fly blind or risk the scanners, or a meteorite hits you...something bad always happens. I have yet to find a decent planet where I have even 1 of of my ship's parts at 100%. And the worst offender is always a choice between jettisoning passengers or having one of your scanners hit; it never ceases to amaze me how often that happens. I've had 1 positive event happen: I came across a drone that could repair my ship...and that was the first event that happened in one game I played. I literally got nothing out of it because I hadn't taken any damage yet. Please, developers, work on the algorithms for events. Not every space voyage has to be fraught with multiple bad things happening to jeopardize your search for a colonizable planet.

Although each playthrough is considerably short, this game is undemanding of your time, and certainly tests your decision making. It's no AAA thriller, but it's certainly fun, and 100% free - a combination that rarely appears in most other free games. I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to spend their spare minutes browsing social media, and instead wants to do something short and fun, minus the commitment most other games demand.

Wya. D. Feb 5, 2019

This is by far the best game on my phone. The gameplay is challenging and it does have some replayability. Events are random and as such create a varied sorry each time. The game can get boring after repeated playthroughs, but it has a lot of potential. Overall, more events could be added, though that will happen as the game gets updated.

Xan. Nov 7, 2019

It's good and it's a nice timewaster, but I think some aspects need to be adjusted. It seems like losing even 1% of the scientific/cultural databases leads to an iron age civilization of monarchs. In fact, losing any percentage of ANYTHING (Except scanners and probes) results in a severly subpar ending. With the constant disasters the ship goes through, it seems impossible to keep everything intact before coming across a planet that won't kill your colonists. Overall, needs some work, but fun.

Rob. J. Aug 4, 2021

Kinda fun in short bursts, but after playing it for a bit you start to recognize all the random events as there really aren't too many of them. That said it is still a bit difficult to at times to find a decent world to settle on and get a good score. Would rate it higher if there was a bit more variety both with the events and the potential outcomes.

Ars. P. Dec 22, 2020

Oh man, this game is amazing. It's fun to come in and either wreck up my ship or try hard to make them flourish. The randomness is amazing and I keep encountering new things after a while. I hope this game keeps getting updated because both the idea and the execution is great. Just needs more content once in a while as it can get dry after playing it constantly.

Ano. C. May 21, 2021

Screenshots might give the impression that this is a math micromanagement game, but it's really more a menu selection game. Most events are repetitive, but there are also rare events that keep the game fresh. After you decide a discovered planet is worth colonizing, you'll get a fairly detailed summary of how it went, and the colony's long-term fate, along with a scored rating. F2P without ads.

All over a fine game. Controls / interface could be a little better. For instance I had an event where the text and the first two choices filled my screen, an not hint to the third option below which I happened to notice by chance. Some planet descriptions do not match with the statistics. I do understand it is randomly generated, but detecting some of these and adding a little more flavour text should not be too complicated. And lastly some kind of online ranking would be nice, just to see how well my colonists did.
