The action takes place in a number of fictitious locations, but opens on the island of Sol. No exact location is given, other than it being 'not far from the mainland'. The time is the present day, but there are many flashbacks, some going back several hundred years.

SYNOPSISThe once pristine and verdant island of Sol is now a wasteland, having been almost totally deforested at the hands of self proclaimed 'Czar' of the island, Umberto Mutto, who has set up a mining operation, using the trees for pit props. Most of the island's population has either been press-ganged to work in the mine and refinery, or locked up for protesting against Mutto's regime.

Mutto abhors violence and so his security force, the Greystazi are only armed with super soakers which fire a bi-product of the refining process, a tranquillising goo, known as Grey-V.

He also has a huge water cannon, the GreyVTron, which fires the goo, to subdue the people. Individuality is forbidden. Uniformity is rigidly enforced.

The indigenous inhabitants of Sol, the blue-skinned Indigonesians, have been rounded up and incarcerated on a nearby island, as their blue-dyed skin renders the GreyV ineffective. However, some have avoided capture, including Chik, son of the imprisoned Indigonesian Chief, Pokettanka. Along with other Indigonesians and non-indigenous people who have avoided capture, Chik forms a resistance movement known as 'Sentinels Of Sol', whose sole mission is to overthrow Mutto, release the prisoners, shut down the mine and refinery, and return the island to it's former pristine glory.

Although married, Mutto lives with Hilda Threlpo von Schadenfreude, and his eleven year old son, Ignatius, in Muttopia mansion. As our story opens, the fate of Mutto's wife (Ignatius' mother) Fleur, is unknown. She initially appears in flashback. Ignatius believes she is dead. He and Hilda hate eachother. Ignatius also hates what his father has done to the island and it's people, but feels powerless to do anything, spending most of his time in his tree house, avoiding Hilda.

Ignatius knows about the 'Sentinels Of Sol' and dreams of joining them, to help overthrow his father's regime, but doesn't know where they hide out or how to contact them.

Then, one auspicious Valentine's Day, something happens to change all that...
