Great podcasts, but the app seems to have developed loads of bugs in the last few weeks. Downloads of new episodes fail, and then the app fails to play episodes previously successfully downloaded, and just get stuck buffering, for no reason. Don't know whether it's a genuine technical issue or a way to get me to pay for premium. Either way, it's hugely frustrating.
The content is brilliant and it is great value for the choice and quality of content. I would love to give this a 5 but the app itself is slightly clunky to use and I have issues accessing downloaded content from my unlimited account when I'm not on WiFi (even using my data doesn't seem to work) as it doesn't recognise me as having an unlimited membership. Despite this I'd still recommend it.
Great stories but the app itself could use some fine tuning. There's no option to queue different episodes, no option to save where you left off. Even if you download episodes they take forever to load.
any time I've reinstalled it it's difficult to get access to my library again. also, it has had a lot of issues crashing.
Really good content. Free tier ads are fairly unobtrusive, and the ad-free tier is nice and low cost.
Pro: they've got Gladstone content. Con: the e-reader keeps resetting to the first page you load in on.
The content is fantastic and there is a generous amount of free stuff that you can try out. However the app is incredibly buggy. For example: there is no simple way to see ALL the shows within the app in alphabetical order, the account and subscribe sections in the options send you to the website, trying to follow a show while you're listening to it doesn't work, the downloads section is highly inaccurate and doesn't update, the in-progress tab doesn't work properly and never shows anything.
Just started using this app and, overall, I really like it. It's fairly easy to navigate and the search function is good. The only complaints I have are lingering expectations I have from other apps. I don't see an option to place a bookmark in the audio version (useful for getting back when using the sleep timer) and there isn't an option to choose SD card storage rather than default phone storage. Otherwise, I'm really happy with this app and the membership thus far.
Definitely like the stories I've purchased, but the app is a bit annoying. Even though I've downloaded the episodes while at home, I still have to turn on data or the app won't play them in my car. I don't know if the app has to "phone home," but it's a pain. I'm not always someplace where I can get a signal. Edit 20191230: Developer says the bug is fixed but I still have occasional trouble where the app says something has gone wrong & try again. The only fix seems to be turning on data.
Excellent content. Loved low life. Hoping for a second season. Currently listening to control alt destroy. My only issue is it doesn't work with android auto. It will play through my car system but I can't access the app through the screen in the car. I have to access it on the phone. If this feature was added it would be perfect.
The most difficult app to use. Which is bummer since the content is really well presented. Edit: added a star for responding. I had issues signing in on the app. Wouldn't recognize password, even though that was correct. There should just be a promo code place in all checkout carts. I shouldn't have to go find it in the settings to apply it. Also, in order to get my purchase to show up in app, I had to uninstall app and add it back. Stops in the middle of playback. Logs you out unexpectedly.
The audio content is amazing, the app needs some work. The app does not work well with the Google Assistant. Every time you use assistant an audio drama begins playing whether or not you had been playing it previously. You have to disable the app completely in order to successfully use navigation on the phone otherwise the story starts playing with each navigation turn. Edit to add: less than an hour after reporting and they are working on it!
So try them. Some of their content is great. The player app. Not so great. The playback speed is right below the play button mine is playing at .75 speed which ruins the experience. They just need to move it. I have a Google pixel and the app is always stopping or closing for no reason. Since it closes hitting play on my car or wireless headphones nothing happens. It is the only app that has this issue.
The content is great. The four stars are due to the app. It works pretty well, and the User Interface is easy enough to navigate through. Small things don't work too well like dedicated podcast apps. For example: Playback doesn't pause when a GPS app such as Waze reads instructions; The app background process continues running and drains the battery.
I'm loving this. I generally prefer buying things individually, but the price isn't bad and I'm enjoying all the options. There's a variety of excellent serials and shorter stories. I much prefer to visually read, but the audio is high-quality and nice on days when I have a long commute and really want to know what happens next
Okay app for quality podcasts and stories of you're willing to pay the cheap yearly price, however, whenever the app opens, it makes a little sound similar to the THX thing. I've noticed recently that even though the app hasn't been used, my phone will make that sound, as if the app is opened. When I check recent apps, it's not there. I load the app anyway, it doesn't do the sound the first time, but will upon opening it other times. Please fix
I got it to get the second season of ReMade. From what I can tell the content is great. The app seems to have a clear and minimalist design, which I don't see as a bad thing. The only thing I'm missing is the ability to download episodes I bought. I don't like burning mobile data on streaming audio. edit: that helps, one extra star for you
Good app and good content, room for improvement. I love the Black Widow series and I think having the app is worth it. There is still some room for improvement though. The transition from episode to episode isnt automatic, or at least setting it up to continuously play isnt intuitive. Also, the screen stays on while the audio plays which is kind of just a waste of battery. Overall I like it a lot and look forward to enjoying more content on this platform. LOVE THAT IT ISN'T A SUBSCRIPTION!
Selection of content seems pretty decent. Prices reasonable although I'll admit that to start with I'm trying out the one Free serial I could find. As someone else mentioned, flow from one episode to the next needs to be added. Perhaps even a playlist option or a a "play entire serial" option. There needs to be better linkage between the web site and the app as well in terms of knowing that I've already read/listened to a particular episode. 4 stars for now but has 5 star potential as it hopefully matures in future releases.
Update: the bug was fixed immediately after I reported it. Updated my review to five stars. Original: The app and the idea behind it is great, even though it feels kinda like the shows have slowed to a trickle. Also wish more of the stories had an ensemble cast instead of just one narrator but I realize that's a cost issue. That being said I've encountered a bug that keeps me from listening to some episodes of Tales Beyond Time. They're locked despite me paying a subscription for full access.
