I've had this app for years and I love it! I usually don't write reviews but recently discovered the "serialize your book" feature which allows you to add your own epub books to it and IT'S AWESOME! I can finally read my ebooks in a manageable way each day and I couldn't be happier! Great work!
I love such easy access to classic novels which I can carry around wherever I go on my phone. This app is very reliable and stores the books you've subscribed to, chapter by chapter, ready to go when you are. I love the simplicity of the app as well as the content. It's something I come back to again & again. Highly recommended for classic readers.
It's a great app which gives us an opportunity to read the classics in a structured and periodic manner. I purchased the full version. There are some grouses I have with some of it's features :- 1. It needs a justified alignment for the text, a vertical scrolling option and an option to set the line spacing. 2. The app is glitchy at points. When I complete an advanced issue, it sometimes doesnt show that it is completed. Goodreads sync isnt working for certain novels like Brothers Karamazov.
I really like this app, it has so many books and I can read anywhere, anytime. My only issue with it is that it doesn't quite sync properly after I've finished sections. I've paid for the app, so I'm able to continuously read, but it won't show what section is "unread". It makes it a bit annoying to scroll to each section so I can click it as complete and it can sync up again. Hopefully this will be resolved in an update soon!
This app is the best!! I've subscribed to three books and each day I get a section of each one, approx. 7-8 minutes of reading. The font is clear and easy to read. The completely optional $2.99 upgrade is very nice -- a good way to thank the developer -- and it gives several nice features including highlighting text, syncing between devices, and skipping ahead if you're eager! The selection of books is excellent, all the classic favorites and some obscure titles I'm excited to read.
Great selection of classic literature! The serialized format took some getting used to, although it works really well for mobile devices. I would enjoy the ability to organize the serials and pause selections that I'm not currently reading. The text and font options are incredible and I really like the interesting and fun motivational pop-ups that say how many words or pages you've read! Simply the best for anyone who enjoys reading!
This is a fabulous app, which already has many wonderful, classic books to read on it. The beauty of it is how you can read a book in chunks, under 20 minutes of reading at a time. I am already hooked into several books I have wanted to read, but that have perhaps been off-putting because of their length. I now have the perfect distraction when feeling restless or at a loose-end, always with me on my phone. I recommend paying the small price (less than £3) to be able to read ahead. Brilliant!
Awesome app to help you pace your reading and stomp that "I'll get back into it when I have time" excuse. Huge selection of literature from the public domain, and always growing. Great visual customization: you can choose the font settings and background color that's easiest on your eyes. Easy to highlight text and take notes, which are all saved and easy to access. Premium is totally worth buying as soon as you start reading on this app. Love it! One major feature I suggest adding: options to sort your Read Later list by author or title or genre, because my list is huge!
This app is awesome. It's great to get you back into a daily reading habit. Whenever you find yourself a bit out of the habit, it can help get you right back in. It's also great for people who haven't been big readers in the past but would like to develop into one. I really like the serial format, which gives small daily doses and if you really get into a particular story, you can read ahead whenever you feel like it.
I love this app! I have used it mostly to get through classics and other books that are intimidating to start. The issues are in nice, readable chunks that make it easy to stick with, and the premium version allows you to read ahead in issues. The one question I had for the developer was answered promptly and professionally. It's a great app, there is no way I would have gotten through War and Peace without it.
I like getting the books in digestible chunks, and the daily encouragements are nice. But the highlighting and notes features are pretty rudimentary compared to those on a Kindle, and there doesn't seem to be a search feature. These texts, the "classics", are all in the public domain and can be read for free with the more advanced features on a Kindle or other e-reader
Day 1 started re-reading a school English text from 50 years ago.. Lorna Doone. Amazing - almost impossible to imagine I was able to read and write essays about this dated (but beautiful) form of literature in my youth. Finding the app thoughtfully constructed, I signed up for the Pro version as soon as I'd finished my first reading assignment. Look forward to using highlight and note-taking features, so I can come back to rediscover things I like. Font and page margin options are great!
I love this app because it makes the reading classics experience a lot easier. The process stops being intimidating and instead becomes a little thing to look forward to every day. The one-time payment premium version is 100% worth it for the option to take notes alone. Also, I love that all the books are unabridged. And the badges are fun and really creative! Wish I could reset them so I could go through the process of getting them again 😅 A simple and effective app! Kudos to the creator!
Best app ever. I love this app! If you are a reader who finds your reading time (and motivation) challenged by today's many diversions -- this app is for you. I'm reading Frederick Douglass, and I'm not sure I would have ever done so otherwise, despite every intention. The chapters are just the right length, it's so helpful to have the Time to Read note at the beginning, you can highlight passages. The classic books are the ones that can be life changing. This app is wonderful.
The idea is great! I love it except I can barely use it. I must have dark mode (I know I'm not the only one) and want to request it. I dont mind if it doesn't have many features but it does need dark mode and the ability to enlarge the font. edit: excited to read about dark mode coming! Will be watching for it. Yes I've made my font larger but it could go even larger for me 😃
Really simple and easy to use interface. Great selection of books. $3 upgrade definitely worth it. I forget all the time that the app is on my phone, so I'm still not getting a lot of reading done, but it's still a huge step up from my horrible reading lapse of many years, and I'm thinking it'll be really helpful for NY resolutions, too!
While the app itself isn't terribly attractive, it features a massive and growing library of free classical literature — and its owner reader mode is quite nice, easy on the eyes during a bus ride. The developer's very actively engaged in this product and in communicating with used, too. I just started boycotting my local library, so now I get to pick up on that classical education I always meant to. This app is simply the best of its kind, period!
Just began my first installment. I love it so far. It is nice to receive a portion of a book at a set time each day. I am excited about reading some of the classics.
The collection is really impressive but the sync option however doesn't work as I had expected it to. So, how exactly does the sync work? I try to read on my different devices and yet the chapters aren't synced. I've to fast forward those pages manually.
Anytime I run into someone saying "I've always wanted to read such and such book but I never finish them", I reccomend this app. It saved my English degree in college and has made reading even more enjoyable. My partner and I read together using the app because it is easy to be on the same "article". Thank you for making this app lovely to use even in the free version. I will be buying the full app now!
I'm still starting at this app. And I think it's good. it's introducing me to a lot of classics from different parts of the wolrd.
Absolutely love the concept of receiving short sections of the books daily. I have long wanted to read more and more often but have always felt overwhelmed when trying. The small, set segments have made it easier for me to approach reading. I cannot thank you enough for this app.
I just started using this app a day or two ago. I'm enjoying the experience of reading in smaller chunks and would recommend this to everyone including people who cannot read at a stretch or dislike large tomes and people like me who cannot put a book down or like to read multiple books simultaneously. Thank you for this great app.
This app really makes you read. I've been able to cover so much since I started reading here. The best part is the daily segment. It's an amount of time you can set for yourself. Amazing work done! The collection also keeps growing and is well categorised.
A huge variety of classic books, fiction and nonfiction, for free is enough to recommend Serial Reader, but the app is worth paying for just for the read-ahead feature (when I'm reading an adventure story, I can't wait a day for the next chapter!).
A lovely app wit an extensive free library of fiction and nonfiction. It could easily provide you with years of entertainment if you love reading. It's also great if you want to read more or have trouble finding time to read. Everything I hoped for.
App idea worked fantastic till I got the premium version. Now every time I try to open any book it keeps the sceeen blank showing it is processing and I am unable to read any single book. I tried subscribing different books or removing all, also I reinstalled the app. Still facing the same issue.
I've got the premium version and have been facing a problem with the app that's rendered it useless for the last month or so. I've sent two emails regarding the issue to the developer, but it was no use. Still waiting on an answer.
Super simple and minimalist with no ads, that's my cup of tea. 100% worth the $2.99 for full access. My favorite feature is the ability to define a word on the spot within the app. Makes reading advanced books and learning new words so much easier.
