Only run through once. The 'choices' are complex, yet, (strangely,) there were parts of the story following a 'choice' - specifically 2 different episodes and reasons for "piloting the Frame," that were repeated verbatim. It was frustrating as it made me disconnect from the story! Perhaps future plays will have me add a star, but I have feeling that the kind of precise repetition that irritated me, will be a continuing problem?
I was somewhat impressed with the narrative. The story was pretty descriptive literally, as well as fairly immersive in the mindset of the player character. There were various endings, some rewarding, while others bleak to say the least. This variation on future dystopia was a refreshing change from the often tedious tapestries of other tales. The tone of writing and attention to detail were satisfying, and I especially enjoyed the AC/IB interactions. 46/47 endings found.
Finally got around to writing a review. I first played this about seven months ago while on holiday, thoroughly enjoyed it. Bought both Atrocity and Atavism a month or so later, and was utterly enthralled. This has since become one of my favourite Science-Fiction settings, and I am very much looking forward to the next novel, and whatever follows. Excellent work, such an inventive and creative setting, and very compelling characters too. Keep up the good work.
Excellent, play throughs are very short and every choice results in a unique outcome (unlike many other books which give you the illusion of choice but eventually guide you to one path or another). Just great story telling too, puts the other choose your own adventure style games (Choice of Games) to shame. Hope to see the author put out more of these.
This app actually springs right out of the Choose Your Own Adventure books I greatly enjoyed when I was much younger. A simple yet efficient interface, and an interactive story that brings the novel to life.
Thank you for the entertaining writing. This really is choose-your-own-adventure. Not like all those other games where the decisions you make cost you a few points but the story remains the same. Not a single advertisement, what more could one want in a free game?
Excellent story nice characters. Only thing that concerns me a bit is the lack of save files. I would really like that option so I can save the story in different points and try different answers without going all over again
Excellent game. It maintains tension with every choice to be made without being predictable. The story thrusts you into an alien mode of thinking that leaves quite an impression. Good work!
Great game, the first path i picked sync'ed up with my train of thought perfectly. Quite impressed that the author is able to determine reasons for picking choices and craft a satisfying narrative from it.
The absence of any manual save is a small bummer and some of the scenes felt a little too 'on-rails' or could have benefited from an extra choice or two but overall its a fairly solid CYOA, if a bit short.
I got through 22 of 47 different endings , all were fun to explore how one choice changed my outcome. I would recommend this for anyone who is looking for this type of game.
One horribly executed trip through the narrative so far and I'm very impressed. Solid writing, engaging storyline, well placed reader choices. Nice work.
This is one of the best C.Y.O.A books I have gotten on mobile in a long time. And in the realm of science fiction C.Y.O.A books it is the best I have read so far. I really hope the author is able and wants to make more for mobile...if he does I will be more then happy to read those as well.
This is a fantastic sci-fi story! I grew up with choose-your-own-adventure books and this brings back memories. Thank you for a wonderful tale! I can't wait to discover more endings!
I have 36 of 47 endings. The remaining endings are seemingly hard to find. Plays out like a bad roguelike. I've yet to find a satisfying ending.
It'd be nice if there was some kind of link between the endings we played and the Achievements' section. Some we can guess, others not so obvious.
it's good, well written (so far) i wish the main character could be customized a little. but itd starting role is rather fixed. all in all enjoyable....
A nice way to spend a winter weekend tucked in cozily in your bed. It really is as addictive as the Serum lol. Didn't have to brainstorm much tho, but I liked reading (discovering) the story.
Beautifully written, with an engaging plot and likeable characters. Loved it. Make more. Or I'm going to laser you out of existence!
As a CYOA, I'd give it 4/5. As a tantalizing introduction to the human jurisdiction universe, unequivocally 5/5. History and lore was so immersive that I finished 43/47 endings, and bought Speller's two (to date) human jurisdiction novels. Finished them in a weekend - outrageously good.
Really enjoying this beautiful story so far. What I love about this are just the sheer amount of decisions you can make that are enthralling to the story.
Good sci-fi, well-written. Fun to play straight through, then explore the alternative choices. (Coincidental similarity to China's fentanyl exports to US?)
I've only experienced one ending but I am extremely impressed. Thank you so much for making this gem! I would write a longer review but I want to get back to the story!
Picked all the least logical choices. Game ended pretty quick. Will replay but this time be a little more logical.
A fast-paced, well written adventure with many options, "Serum" is slightly burdened with a convoluted back story that leaves the player doing catch up through most of the first run-through. Luckily, there is plenty of replayability, and the details of the storyline become more familiar each time you play. Recommended.
