Clearly abandonware. Used to work -- no longer does. Not sure why, probably because no media permission in the app manifest. I have /sdcard and /extSdCard mountpoints, have full root, etc. but it says the filesize is 0 always and no file is actually generated anywhere on my device. Bummer.. I used to use this app a lot.
Does not work on Nexus 9 with Andorid 5.0.1 (Android version was OTA updated on start-up) App spits a PIE error. I suspect I will need to be a patient grasshopper. Hopefully there will be a version compiled to work with PIE enabled versions of Android or an install package that detects the Android version and deploys the appropriate PIE versus NON-PIE binary. zip to disable PIE does not install/work on my platform, which is just a workaround in any event.
While it is nice to be able to run TCPDump without needing to hit the command line, I'm not sure the development effort warrants ads. More importantly, spontaneously reboots my Defy running CM7 beta 5.1 by Quarx when I 'stop' collection. Occurs on both Shark and Shark Native.
Works as advertised on Android 4.4.4 and below, however you're out of luck on 5.x Lollipop devices due to changes in Android security (specifically PIE). As this app hasn't been updated since 2010, I don't expect a fix for this. SO, if you're running anything below 5.x Lollipop on a rooted device and are familiar with tcpdump, go for it. If you have a newer device or have upgraded to Lollipop, join me in finding an alternative.
The current version is apparently incompatible with the version of busybox associated with recent releases of SuperSU. Tested on Nexus5. Busybox commands not found on dump stop.
Only sniffs your own packets over 3g,and then you can't open them even with shark reader. Totally useless on WiFi too. Uninstalled
I was wanting to research call traffic structure since I'm guessing most LTE based traffic follows SIP. Problem is I only get data packets, I can not see voice packets with this app.
First time I opened it it went to a web site and tried to download some apk to install on my phone. Scam
Captures packets and opens in Shark Reader. All the packets say Raw Packet #. S3
Ads are unprofessional, pcap stops once you navigate away from the app screen... kinda useless
This seems to be an interesting ap, but finding info on how to best use it is not easy. I need to do more research on this ap.
Pop-up ads that hijack your screen and lead to shady "you've won" sites that use the phone buzzer. Really annoying.
I have problem to work up with shark for root,, when i open the shark.. getting error message like: shark error: can't execute root startup sequence. do you have root? Can any one help me out..
But needs to be updated to stop PIE errors on v5.x android. Currently unusable.
Shark seems to think that it is OK to hijack your browser to open ads on your phone and to open the Google App store to specific games in an effort to lure you to install them. This is all done automatically and without your permission upon opening the Shark application.
Cool app, but only sniffs local traffic. Need a special driver to put eth0 in promiscuous mode which currently doesnt exist.
This app is non functional on a rooted Captivate. Packets are not captured, log file is not created.
If you're complaining in the reviews section, be aware that this application needs root access. This could perhaps solve many of your problems.
can save pcap file, but reader is not working, have to copy to pc, and view the file each time.
Cool app for doing captures when you don't have anything else with you. If you don't know what this is, google wireshark.
Pretty great but please consider a pay version with no ads. Your mobclix ad provider litters my log. Thanks
The explicit adds r just offensive. Add free version, please.
It would be better if there was a paid version, the ads are causing noise in the capture.
William no offense but if you don't know what shark is you probably will never figure it out. So don't give bad reviews for your obvious ignorance.
Cant believe so many people are spamming my email w/ questons i didnt offer to answer. Email removed.
Too bad, could have been decent. Good idea, bad execution.
This is awesome, any chance you could also write this for the iOS ;-) Very helpful tool for sniffing 3G and and understand mobile networks better. it gets 9/10 because although the tool work well and functional it could have a slightly nicer UI, although thats not very important compared to functionality.
