Shawn Peter Raul Mendes (/ ˈmɛndɛz /; born August 8, 1998; age 20 years) is a Canadian singer and songwriter Mendes gained followers in 2013, after uploading cover songs in the Vine video sharing application. The following year, he caught the attention of artist manager Andrew Gertler and A&R from Island named Ziggy Chareton, who made him contract with this record company. He has released three studio albums, held three world tours, and received several nominations and awards.
Mendes released his debut EP titled the same as his name (2014) and his debut studio album titled Handwritten (2015), which contained a single titled "Stitches" at number one in the United Kingdom and top 10 in the United States and Canada. He then released his second studio album titled Illuminate (2016), which contained singles titled "Treat You Better" and "There's Nothing Holdin 'Me Back" in the top 10 in several countries. The third studio album, titled the same as the name (2018), has a main single titled "In My Blood". All of his albums debuted at the top of the US Billboard 200, with the first album making Mendes one of the five artists who had debuted at number one before 18 years of age and his third album making Mendes the third youngest artist to have three number one albums. Mendes was also the first artist to have three number one singles on the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts (2017) and four number one singles on the Adult Pop Songs chart (2018) before the age of 20.
