Changes to the Android operating system have resulted in many similar applications stopping to work properly. Shouter not only seems to work like it should (providing you have the permissions set up correctly) but also includes an important feature that I have been looking for and that is the ability to choose your media channel (media, ring tone, system, notification) for the apps announcement.

I used an old app like this for years, but the dev abandoned it. I tried to have Tasker do it, but couldn't get it to work reliably. I recently found Shouter and even though I'd like a few features (e.g., read aloud when certain Bluetooth devices connected, but not other devices and option topause before reading so my ringtone has time to finish), it is terrific and the registration fee (I registered almost immediately) is a steal. Cuts off after so many characters. :(

Very good app, the reminders, the battery indicator, the hour... app selection, all that great, very useful to know things without turning the screen on. What is annoying is that reading text messages notifications even I pick Spanish (would like also English, auto detection to switch to those 2 languages), for some reason it switches to English. Not big deal, is not all the time. The charger is connected has a delay, after like 2 minutes is doing the notification.

I really enjoy the application, but even though I have it set to 📢 announce the time ⌚, as well as reminders, it only does so when I am playing music on my speaker. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it multiple times, yet it still doesn't work properly. I don't want it to shout interrupting songs, but for some unforseen reason, that's exactly what it does. I often miss important appointments because I put them in the application, yet it remains silent.

It does not announce in coming calls and the battery level feature does not work with either Wireless charging or regular wired charging, when I charge my phone by either plugging it into the cable or putting it on the charger it does not say anything. The Text Message reading and time announcing is the only thing that actually works. I could not get a refund, at least it was only 99 cents.

When reading aloud the current time (I have it set to every 15 mins) the app pauses the podcast or whatever I'm listening to, and there is a silence of about ten seconds before it actually announces the time. This is the same whether I have it set to accurate time keeping or not. Is there a way I can make this work properly? I love the app and everything else works great normally!

Love it! The application provides me the additional verbal notification I was looking for. It is easy to install and set up. It allows for major customization so a user can truly get out of the application what is wanted. I tried several applications first, before selecting Shouter as my choice. I based it on ease of use, customization, amount of applications that can be involved and access to a quick off - on option, which is a widget. I did go for Shouter Pro after evaluating the application. It was minimal in cost, and worth it. I use it on my Pixel 2, for those who like knowing devices.

Both reliable and customisable, Shouter is the best app for announcing notifications via audio. I use it daily to read notifications whenever my headphones are connected and the phone screen is off, and it works a treat. Shouter lets me stay up to date with all of my messages without even looking at my phone screen, and it's become one of my essential apps to be installed every time I set up an Android device.

I don't think the developer is interested in improving the app. I wrote to the developer separately and no response from him. The app does the job OK, but has bugs - not expected from an app, for which I am expected to pay. 1> With the newer Android versions, the caller name announcement doesn't happen through Bluetooth Audio. It works OK through plugged in headphones. 2> The announcement interrupts ongoing calls. The announcements should ideally wait or skip if the user is on an audio call (Phone, Whatsapp, Skype, Webex etc).

This is a horrible app. It's impossible to schedule announcements even with thd paid version of the app. That part dies not work at all. It can announce something in the middle of the night, and there's no way to shut it up. None of thd settings work. I uninstalled this piece of garbage and it stil keeps announcing stuff. Unbelievable!

I use this so i still get an audio notification when bluetooth is connected. To set it up I enabled my messaging app and selected the Alarm audio output. I would like it better if it would just say "Text Message" or "Phone Call" instead of trying to say the name. It usually says the wrong name anyway.

understands context, it will react in an informed or smart way. That's important as it gives voice control a lot more power and moves it on from only reacting to specific phrases. It's designed to be more than just reactive. get real time spoken, written translation to aid the conversation.the system in one step ahead, is smarter in dealing with functions, Again, the advantage gives an edge here.

I've been happily using the free version for years, and finally decided to chip in the well-deserved $ to support. Opening the new/paid version auto-ran a migration process (nice touch), but I still had to re-select apps to be read out, and re-set all the read-out message sentences manually, before uninstalling the old/free version.

Used for years, was once decent but been broken for a while now. It only repeats the first message every time you revive a message. So if there's a conversation going on you're only gonna get the first notification read to you every single time there's a reply. Theres also not many voice options as I would hope.

Inconsistent. Don't do it Have the paid pro app. I use this only for hearing messages on Bluetooth (while driving). Some times it works and other times it doesn't provide the full message. Have contacted the developer and they're unresponsive.

Update 4/1/21: since Google updated their OS to Android 11 there have been a few problems with Shouter, hoping support can help. Just loving how it works! Recommend getting the pro version for full functionality. Only complaint is that calls aren't announced quick enough and also charging notifications delayed tremendously or not at all.

So far this is turning out to be a completely useless app. Every other time it tries to read a text message it randomly picks a name from my contacts add simply repeats that random name twice instead of reading the content of the message from the appropriate person.

If you pay for this app only about half of the functions will work depending on which phone you have. My Samsung running Oreo does not announce battery levels and will only do a notification once and not repeatedly. Increased to four stars. A bunch of updates over very short period of time and everything seems to be working now.

I been using Shouter Pro since they announced the app. Its an awesome app. I would be lost without it. It does basically anything you want it to do. It announces your phone calls, text messages and breaking news on your apps such as CNN ABC or any app you want to use. It reads everything out to you. You can also set your own settings. I 100% recommend this app.

Bre. J. Jun 15, 2019

it babbles 3 or more names or even wrong name from Contacts, but I assume that this is because of Googles limitations It does seem to work better than others but still not a great experience. it's by far better than others I've tried but none of them are working correctly anymore. this one's not full of ads

Works about half the time the other half of the time it reads me notifications or emails that have already been dismissed and it keeps reading me text messages every time I open up the app. I bought the pro version but I'm going to look for a different app that works better

Rob. B. Nov 9, 2021

Made the mistake of going Pro because I like to support the development of good apps. Shouter Pro won't import my settings from Shouter, and the developer is completely unresponsive. Getting my 99¢ back (on principle) and sticking with the free version — WHICH WORKS GREAT, although the UI/UX could be better.

I have been using the PRO for over a year and it is a great app to remind you by voice of your events so you hear your apps when ever they have something to say. Forget about bells & other sounds when you can hear about what is important to by voice. Try it and you will like it!

Sco. W. Apr 1, 2020

Was pretty good until it was updated. Now when I get a time notification, it's says " The time is 7 colon (:) 11pm", instead of the usual "It's 7 11pm. It never did this with the older version so I'll be uninstalling it! I'll reinstall if this annoying feature is fixed.

Luc. G. Jul 5, 2021

Straight forward and easy to set up. REMEMBER TO SET UP the "DEVICE STATES", there you can select if you want the announcements to happen also when the phone's audio is set as silent. By default, silent mode announcements are unselected.

Don. K. Dec 28, 2020

Very nice reliable reader of incoming notifications. Lots of user options to select only the apps you want to hear, and when and where you'll hear them. Also, they keep the app updated.

Rob. B. Mar 26, 2021

When this app works properly I like it a lot. And when it doesn't I'm not happy with it much at all. Unfortunately of late it does not tell me that I have a text or who it's from. I just get a beep from my phone and until I go into the app to read the text does it tell me who it was that contacted me. Not happy with this app so far and I am paying to see all this information and getting none of it. Take the free version and let the pay for version alone it's not worth paying for.

Works well on my note 8. Lots of ways to personalize. Be nice if there were more ways to mute the shout ie: tap the screen. Otherwise very handy to have because it doesn't tie you to the phone and allows you to do other things.
