Version 4.0.0 is utterly useless. The app reports "invalid email address" and "invalid password" when I try to login using the credentials that work in my browser. Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help. Version 3.2 was working OK before the app was updated. Tried to use 4.0.0 again on 10 February and this time I was able to login and use the app. Disappointed it took so long to fix it.

Continually returns No Internet Connection or does not open at all. What? Get this sorted please. I thought I could use this to clear out my 40+ years of mags but the search engine is so generic as to be worthless - search for "In the Earth" & it just returns every result for "Earth". Needs sub-filters, like Review, News, etc/

poor, i thought it would be too good to be true, being able to access issues of sight and sound all the way back to the 1930s and not expect it to crash all the time. should have read the reviews and steered clear of this poor app. its one way of keeping the print version in circulation. bfi stick to film criticism and funding, at least you know what your doing.

App starts up, and sticks forever in the authenticating membership process. If it ever gets past that process, it crashes as soon as I try to load an issue. This is a new tablet, and there shouldn't be problems like this. Having a digital subscription is severely limited if I'm only able to read the magazine in my web browser, and not in the dedicated app, which, by extension, is a service I've paid you money for. Judging by the rest of reviews on here, this is a problem that's persisted for a good long while, and you don't seem any closer to fixing it. I love your magazine, but this needs to be rectified post haste, or you need to just pull this app from the app store, so you can stop advertising that your magazine can be read on Android. As of now, as far as I'm concerned, it can't.

I have a long run of the actual magazine but I though I'd give this a try. Crashed three times in five minutes. The Search is completely useless. I tried searchng the Archive for 'Pale Rider' and was told it was too generic. Enclosed it in quotes - made no difference. Only when I found out from IMDB when it was released was I able to locate which issue (of MFB) it was in: I was able to Search and get a result. Basically you can search for something if you already know where it is. (The website version is no better.) The scan quality of the MFB is pretty bad, though more recent editions of S&S are OK.

Keeps crashing. Cant view S&S on laptop. Only through this ridiculous app even though you are paying full price for digital subscription. I contacted them and they were no help. A temporary password is all I wanted so I can view the magazine directly on S&S website. Buy digital subscription on the website otherwise you are stuck using a glitchy android app. It is the same price. I feel ripped off.

This app is appalling since the August update. It keeps asking me to login whereas before I was just authenticated automatically via Google Play. When I try to use my Google account details, it says they are unrecognised despite my having an annual subscription. Pagesuite have been no help whatsoever & neither have the publisher so I've regrettably cancelled my subscription as I'm paying for a magazine I can't read. What a shame. S&S was my favourite film magazine.

This app DEMANDS access to contacts and calls in my phone - with no reason at all! Why would I need to give access for private information to log in and read something I payed for? Why not just take my username and password? This information is not needed to log in from a computer, so there must be some other reason to ask for it. This seems very fishy to me. I have a subscription, but this app is useless. Never give premitions for apps if it makes no sense!!

Terrible. Take it down from the store and design it properly. Your 'forgotten password' doesn't work and sends an creates an email with my device ID code in the email body. WHAT AN EARTH ARE YOU DOING? Can't even reset a password. Well that's your subscription gone.

I'd love to read your magazine on my tablet but I've been put off subscribing based on the terrible terrible reviews here. I've installed the app and had a quick poke around without subscribing and it's pretty clear that this app is dated...Like hasn't-seen-an-update-since-2013 dated. I'm giving it a 1 star review just to add to the feedback here with the hope that someone at BFI takes note and realises they're losing potential subscribers like me!

Sort it out S&S. This is letting the brand down. Constant requests to log back in, reauthenticating etc. I just want to search for the film I've just seen on BFI Player. Shouldn't be this hard.

Garbage! Keeps on shutting down every time I try to download an issue. Is it so hard to make a functional app nowadays? And, why is it asking permission to make phone calls and accessing my contacts? Any data privacy expert somewhere?

A. G. u. Jan 12, 2020

By far the least stable app I have ever used. Crashes every time that I scroll to earlier issues. No response from developer.

Superb. Only for people who can actually read. Not good for morons.

A. G. u. Sep 26, 2018

Appalling login rejections even after contacting the publishers. Worse because I have a paid subscription.

When will this app ever be fixed? Crashes instantly.

A. G. u. Jul 6, 2019

can't find how to search for specific film rather than specific magazine edition

A. G. u. Dec 19, 2019

Utter junk. Why hasn't this been fixed, BFI?

A. G. u. Feb 9, 2020

Pitiful - don't bother.

A. G. u. Aug 18, 2018

Latest update (version 3.2) no different to previous version, so not sure what the "essential update" was. App still sticks for ages on the startup banner page, it constantly crashes, in particular when scrolling down thumbnail pages, and it leaves temporary files in the main downloads folder instead of the app's private cache. I'm reverting to version 1.3 which is reliable and faster.

This app authenticates too often and does so very slowly. Even if you are currently reading an edition you can be asked to re-authenticate . Fortunately it no longer tries to authenticate when you are not connected to the internet, so you are able to read downloaded Editions while traveling.

A. G. u. Apr 10, 2018

Bring the old version. This one crashes constantly and doesn't work properly when offline. Very disappointing.

A. G. u. Feb 7, 2018

App was working fine until the new update in which my credentials don't work anymore. They are still working in the S&S website, though. App is "checking the credentials" for a few seconds and then does nothing, although the credentials are the same. Support doesn't help, since they tell me to contact the Publisher without any contact information, they can't help the problem. Conclusion is that there is a problem with the app, every other platform works with the same credentials.

A. G. u. Feb 28, 2018

I agree with others: bring back the previous version. This one clumsy, more time-consuming, and ugly.

A. G. u. Mar 4, 2018

Version 3.0 is a shocker, as others have already noted. Did anyone actually test it prior to release?

A. G. u. Jul 29, 2017

The app is fine, but the Sight and Sound service is pathetic, especially their delivery service when it comes to the print issue. Not only they don't care about whether the issue has reached the subscriber, but when they came to know that the subscriber has not received the issue and send them a replacement issue, then also they don't care whether it has reached the subscriber's address or not. In one word, Sight and Sound does not care about the subscriber.

Navigation is excellent and it is easy to use. The only downfall is that there is no way to bookmark pages nor does it remember the last page you were on.

A. G. u. Jul 9, 2014

I like Sight & Sound as a magazine but this app is poorly designed. There is no way to return to the place you were reading. You have to remember where you were - I don't think there is any other reading app that doesn't have bookmarking. At my age I need to enlarge the text to read the small print and the screen redrawing is very slow and I have to do it for every page An option to use a larger font would be useful. Since my local Barnes & Noble no longer carries the magazine I thought this would be a good alternative. It isn't - I guess it's time to shell out for a paper subscription.

Why isn't this app being advertised? I found it by chance while frustrated that seemingly only the iPad could benefit from the digital subscription properly. This is very smooth and quick so far and should be offered more willingly.
