Every thing on this app is okay. The people detection is amazing but it has very few options. Opening the video to watch after motion detection has been triggered takes forever. Since the new update my app no longer gets notification. One of the main positive things about this app is that it's integrated with IFTTT. My only recommendation is that the Developers update the app and add more features.
support is great (and you need it) first of all depending on your version of Android will determine the version of the sighthound app. 1.0.2 does not work it may be the newest available if you have an older phone. 1.6.2 does work but again you only get this if you have a new enough Android os. ip changes? you can use ddns (but must specify the port in thier software) do not use ddns with port forwarding. in any case it works if your technical enough to work through things.
Very very poor user experience. You get a notification, tap it, it tries to load then takes you back to the home screen instead of asking if you'd like to retry. Can't access as soon as your public IP changes (which is an easy problem to solve) and the person detection is pretty poor. Also you can only use rtsp cameras. Download Tinycam Pro instead, it's free and does everything this does and more a lot better. Sorry SH, your tech feels a bit dated now.
very useful for an important task which is that I use this for turning on a rule when I leave the house for extended periods, otherwise it's way too slow to use as a viewer even with default settings and fast wifi or cell service. now I use a third party ip cam viewing app when I need to quickly check.
It works about 60% of the time. Often the videos don't load properly. For some reason phone rotation lock is disabled in video mode. Overall needs a lot of work to bring up to speed with their desk apps.
Often hangs when selecting a particular clip or feed. Restarting the app usually helps. Otherwise really nice app, reviewed 90 days of footage in 15 minutes.
Video playback does not work on pixel 3. Support unable to resolve. Worked fine on wife's iPhone. Do not recommend if you're an android user.
App is very slow to load clips even when using a local IP, default rules are show every object and not the rules setup within sighthound, no zoom facility.
All this money spend, $250 on software, and the remote view works only until your public IP changes? There is $20 DVR's that have cloud based remote view which is far better than this. Why not fix this?
Devs have abandoned this app, hasn't been updated in over 2 years and it stopped working for me a year ago. Shop elsewhere...
Good app, my only real complaint is requirement to use static ips when i have a more reasonable dns entry that would work
Have they abandoned this app? The alerts have been broken for a year, the last update was 2019.
Needs the ability to save clips from app to phone or share from app to other apps
Best object detection for a low-ish one off price.
Pro subscription and wont load cameras. Samsung s7
Always fails to load or play clips
they make you pay for their "premium" service to watch a single camera, hosted on your on computer, on your own network... RIDICULOUS!
Works well, excellent support, notifications quick. room for improvement .e.g. Export/save clip is a missing feature in app which I would use when I'm away and need to keep certain clips for reference. Plenty of choice with rules on main pc software, need to try different rules to get notifications only when you want them even with the ability to recognise moving objects as people. Switch off HLS live streams in settings and the main video is quick, lower frame rate but fine for checking.
2019 Update: I guess they're not working on this. Three years after my original review and this app still has the same problems! I still use Sighthound Video on my computer at home for my webcams and it works great but this app, nope! (Original review 2016) 'Server not responding' This is all I get on full wifi connection or 3/4G. Keep working on this guys!
Every time I clip to watch an alert clip, it says "error loading video". Has done this since the last update.
Its currently being flagged as Malware in AVG
I can connect to my nas, my cameras and other nvr's both locally and remotely. I can't connect this app to a trial version of sight hound locally or externally from my network. It's possible I'm missing something, but at this point I'm leaning towards sighthound being the issue. This is a shame because their person detection is pretty good. I would have considered purchasing a full seat had this app worked out.
Error communicating with server, useless.
it cannot connect to 2 networks so when I am on the same network it does not work eg home wifi... Please turn on 2 network like others have
Works great in iOS but not Android. Constantly have to force close the app and re-open to view clips.
Please fix the ability to view clips on the galaxy s8.
App not working , complex to navigate
I loaded the server software on a Mac Mini. The mobile app works great on local Wi-Fi. I had VPN for remote access and do not have to open up a port on my router
Please release a feature so I can use this across a range of properties
EDIT: a year has passed, and absolutely nothing has improved. Publisher let's the product die a slow death. good enough featureset for me, and alerts come in within ca. 6s. but it is so incredibly buggy! Reviewing an alert always fails the 1st time, and after that the alert disappears so you have to manually navigate to the correct camera and rule (if you remember!). Then the clip usually fails to load again the first time, but usually the 2nd try it usually works. Caching prob?
