I did expect it to at least work. The word terrible doesn't begin to describe the quality of this app. About the only positive thing I can say about it is that it looks alright, but functionally it's completely broken. Unable to cast live TV to Chromecast for more than 5 minutes before video freezes and the app eventually crashes. We're talking core functionality here, and it simply doesn't work. The company behind this product should be ashamed.
My Simple is working fine now on my Roku and this App. Cox Communication here in Louisiana does not longer support Simple TV or the viewing of unencrypted channels without a dedicated cable box, so after re-scan Simple TV with a digital Antenna attached, I was able to find most of the local channels. That was one of the nice things that separated COX Communication from the rest.
Please fix the UI to match the material design guidelines. I bought an Android phone because I did not want an iPhone so please do not give me an iPhone UI. I would also like to be able to browse the guide while I am chromecasting content. If I have selected a Chromecast from the action bar please assume that I would like to cast the content, do not ask me if I would like to play the content on my phone or on the TV. I have already indicated that I would like to watch it on the TV.
Thank you simple.TV for taking my money for your crappy hardware and a "lifetime" subscription and then less than a year later permanently shutting down your services. Classy. Can't say I believe in a heaven or hell, but if they exist it's obvious where you're ending up.
Used to use it all the time to watch TV remotely. Now Android app is non-functional while iPad and Roku work fine. Note4 sticks at buffering when trying to watch show - then gives error. Disappointed right now.
Paid for this back in 2014 and hasn't worked since. sure can use it on ipad or old tablet but would like to use my unlimited plan on my phone. the dual tuner device that works with this has to be rebooted once a week. poor product and support. sent several communications and never received a reply.
Simple TV works with my Win10, Roku, Android KitKat, but it fails to load channels correctly on my Note 3 with Lollipop. Error shows "There was a problem playing..." Please get this app fixed/updated.
UI is sluggish. No excuse for such poor performance simply scrolling through a list of text and small images. No Chromecast support for the 1st gen STV-1000 :(
You know if you are going to send people to your website to register then maybe you should give an option to do so. Totally dissapointed with this app
I have yet to be able to get my phone to connect. Anytime I try the unit reboots. I can stream maybe 2 mins tops and very choppy mind you via desktop browser.
Playback is terrible on Android. Works great on Roku. Look at the number of 1 Star reviews here. There is a reason for that. This app is junk.
For the love of all things holy, DO NOT GET SIMPLE TV. Never works. Manages to record maybe 3 out of 10 programs, and NO, it is not an antenna issue. The company will probably be soon completely out of business. That's why their tuners are "sold out". Bye Felicia.
Chromecast support does not work. Playback constantly freezes. I have contacted support and they blame Google but do not seem to be doing anything to resolve. Wish I had never purchased this...
So I can understand that there wasn't much motivation to support Google TV. I was a huge of the old Sony NSZ-GT1, but have now moved on to an Nvidia Shield. How about enabling install on Android TV devices? Having SimpleTV work via an app on the Shield would be awesome!
Originally thought it was crap. Lost nearly half a seasons worth of episodes... but with recent firmware updates, some fixes to the app, a faster hard drive, and the addition of sharing features... My experience has much improved. If you're having performance issues, I suggest the HGST Touro S (7200rpm, 1TB); wakes up quick, made buffering times reasonable, and doesn't get to hot. The app still flakes out and Chromecast functionality is still iffy, but I've seen lots of progress over the last year.
Inexcusable to not have it working on 4.4.3+ yet. Was flaky even when it did work. No chromecast support on gen 1 which was promised about a year ago.
I was a little concerned given my level of techpertise, but I got the device set up and the app is working. It's fantastic. Some of these reviews are ridiculous.
The website is misleading saying the simple TV has Chromecast support but after digging in, Chromecast is only compatible with the dual tuner version. Will update star rating when Chromecast is supported in both versions.
Works great on my Roku and iPad air. Will only playback video for a few seconds before stuck at buffer on my galaxy view and edge 6+. Both using lollipop
It does work. however, The progress bar doesn't seem to work, fast forward doesn't work, the navigation buttons never go away. And the first gen unit needs Chromecast support
Uninstalled to try to fix and now will not reinstall.
Got a new Roku TV and can't remote simple.tv app because every time I get a success message it goes to a 404 page error. So there is now no way for me to use the roku. Also where is the casting button I can find it anywhere?
Playback is pretty shaky, especially with Chromecast. Really needs commercial skip or skip ahead 30 second option during playback.
Works fine. Improved much over the last few versions. Please add download feature. NB- you need to buy the simpleTV device for this app to work.
Please update app, hasn't been updated since 2014. A few tweaks would make this awesome
It was touch and go while they were still in business as of August 5th, the company has OFFICALLY shut down!
On Galaxy s4 it seems a little sluggish in responses. Also the app will not show what you have in your "to be recorded" list like the Web Access does.
The latest update definitely makes things better, but I'm still having some issues. HD channels are being shown with black bars top and bottom, even though my phone screen is the right aspect ratio. EDIT: Chromecast seems to be working again, but still having black bars when playing on the phone. Looks fine via Chromecast though.
