SimpliSafe Home Security App

App is pretty decent except for two things. First, it's really intolerant of any kind of network interruption or slowdown. Go into a tunnel on the subway? The app won't continue to show you data already loaded on screen. You get an error page. Dumb. Second, the timeline function. You can't filter for specific events, and trying to go backward to review previous events has never worked correctly; it always shows the current week no matter which date you select.

Convenient. Assuring. Helpful. Secure. I've had SimpliSafe for over 10 years now and it is a proven system. No issues. Great response from the service when an alarm triggers. I own it so it moves with me. Saves a lot of money compared to traditional alarm services. It offers water leak, glass breakage, fire unlike other similar services. IMO, the best there is!

The app has never functioned properly at all.. I have had to uninstall and reinstall this app multiple times. It will not operate as intended. If it will even let me view my system status, it will not let me set it in home or away mode remotely. No matter how many times I redownload or relogin or force close, the app straight-up does not work. This has been a problem for over 2 years and they don't seem interested in fixing it.

So far, so good. I had a motion sensor fall from it's spot on the wall (an unrelated object fell and knocked it off), and the procedure worked well. I received a call, as well as my other contact number, from SimpliSafe to ensure everything was okay. I was able to check the camera in my office to see that things were fine so the alarm was disarmed and I went down to secure the motion sensor. It's pretty great being able to access the camera and other features through the app so smoothly.

Genuinely disappointed in this system. We spent hundreds of dollars on equipment for the cameras to be unreliable at best. The doorbell camera goes off every 5 minutes when cars pass all night but doesn't catch someone standing on my front porch taking a package. More than half the time it only records for a few seconds instead of the full minute then says the rest is unavailable due to internet issues. Funnily enough the internet works perfectly fine for every other device in our home.

The SimpliSafe app is adequate, but not exceptional. It frequently has trouble waking up outside cameras even when the cameras and the phone have a strong wifi signal on the same network. The widget works well for turning the alarm on and off, but it's not updated with the current armed status if the system is turned on or off by any other device.

Update: Upgrading to 5 stars because there is now an outdoor camera! I love the simplicity of this system! So easy to install, easy to use, and works great. I would give it five stars if there were outdoor cameras available. Not putting the indoor cameras outside with a skin on it. But cameras made to be outside that can withstand the elements.

I'm not sure I can recommend this system to others if using cameras is important for your home security. The entry sensors work fine when the adhesive isn't failing and the motion sensor seems to function. But the cameras are extremely unreliable. We had a crisis at our home and 3 of our 4 cameras were not working with the final one cutting in and out. We use the range extender that simplisafe sells for two of the cameras and they still only work about half the time. Trouble shooting do nothing

When I get notifications it gives me two different times. One time is correct but the other time in the same notification is from a different time zone. I have a picture to share if someone from Simplisafe would care to correct the problem. I have never received a call about the issue and it is still doing it. Update: they actually read the review and reached out to me and have since fixed the issue.

Would be good if you could set alarm to activate and deactivate and certain times. I.e home mode at night until morning. Some reliability issues connecting to cameras sometimes. Would also be good to put different delays on alarms going off. I.e once an alarm is triggered base station alarm goes off, but then 30 seconds later the external one will go off.

202 update: we've added a third camera and the app is much less buggy. Doorbell goes offline sometimes. Does the job and I like that we can over time add to the system's functionality. 2019: A really annoying bug. Also find directions lacking. Was hoping app would have more helps.

Camers record when nothing is there. One of my camers recorded 95x in a row every min. The App is laggy, can't move a slider in the videos to see things, you can only use the 10sec skip. App is always crashing, and high battery usage. Drains the battery Camers are always disconnecting, sensors are not responding. For how much everything is I expected better quality. I think SS needs to take some notes from ring on how the app needs to work. Outdoor cameras just show a blk screen when going live.

Update: 5/18/22: Once again, an apparent smoke detector malfunction and the camera is UNAVALIBLE!! So much for false alarm verification. SimpliCams TOTALLY Unreliable!!! Constantly unable to connect when im away from house and trying to check in on my puppy."Visual verification" is useless UNLESS your local police department requires camera verification before dispatch AND the camera is actually able to connect and save the video.

I just recently had to update the alarm system from the old system to a new system. With the old system I could turn the alarm on and off with app from my mobile device and make any changes needed. YOU CAN'T TURN THE NEW ALARM SYSTEM BACK ON (NOR CAN SIMPLI SAFE) WITH YOUR MOBILE DEVICE UNLESS THE SYSTEM IS WI-FI ENABLED. Mine is not (unoccupied house). I had to drive 50 miles to turn the Alarm back on. Disappointed in App and system that won't allow me to turn it BACK ON or make all changes.

Very happy all in all with the app and the system. As an IT professional what does drive me crazy is the inconsistency of the Arming Reminders function. I have it set for 9:30 pm and I MAY get the reminder at 9:32, 9:34, or not at all. Seems like this should be a VERY easy thing to fix.

My one and only complaint is the cameras alert to my phone has a few minute delay every so often. The console with door and motion sensors works perfectly and instantly 99% of the time. Much more reliable than other systems ive had that cost more. Any product that had ANY malfuction, was replaced quickly at no cost.

Since the last update my phone app for SimpliSafe on Android does not work consistently. I have to continually sign out and sign back in to get the app to work. Not a good sign especially when I'm away from home and need to check that the alarm system was turned on.

Works very well. Very easy to use and set up is a breeze. Added a new outdoor camera. Had it installed and set up in less than 10 minutes. My only request is a dark mode for the app. Otherwise it's the best security system on the market today!

My experience has been positive and the cameras are very useful and programmable. I dont recall being notified about the rate change. I will have to contact them.

As far as doing what it says, it does. I wish it would record when the censor picks up a movement. And I wish it would alert me a bit quicker. By the time I get the alert, whatever or whomever made the censor go off can be gone . That's why it needs to record without signing up to pay every month. It should be included for free when you buy the system equipment itself.

Camera connections are unstable. Both cameras are within arms reach of a mesh node and have horrible connection rate. It's to the point that I don't check the doorbell on push notifications because I know it won't connect. Even though I spent a bunch of money on it I may move to nest or ring because the doorbel camera was the whole reason I got it.
