Sky Xplore

Point your device in any direction and instantly find out what stars and planets are in your view. Sky Xplore gives you real-time, live view of the stars, planets and constellations as seen from your location, above and below the horizon.
In addition to providing detailed information about celestial objects, Sky Xplore will let you dive into the 3-D starfield to get a better perspective how stars are located in constellations.

Experience the solar system by entering orbits of the planets and major moons.

Designed for everyone, Sky Xplore is easy to use but also provides advanced features for the more experienced sky observer, including highly accurate models of the major moons of Jupiter and Saturn.

The Time Player feature allows you to jump to the past or future and travel through time at different rates for you to observe the orbits of planets and moons.

Use the celestial and horizon sky grids and the coordinate display to see what is above the horizon and to get your bearing in real time.

Search and discover detailed information about stars and planets. Search objects by name or quickly identify sky objects by tapping the screen.

Switch to the manual sky view mode and use finger gestures to scroll and zoom the sky for a detailed study of the sky.

If you do a search for "dipper" or "big dipper" it wont find it. But if you search for a star named "HR8636", it will find it. All scientific names, no "fun" names, or names we've been taught growing up. Kinda takes the fun out of it.

Regarding drop-down entry fields, this app seems to perpetuate the usual limitations found in similar astronomy apps. Granted, I just resently downloaded the app, so readers be fair; treat this review as tentative (until concerns are replied to or addressed). Designers, please reconsider the current design that follows so many other apps regardng user interface. Specifically, do not ONLY offer calendar scrolling, time scrolling, etc. With each such field, also provide the ability to enter the associated text. Without such, customer patience is stretched. For example, with the current design, assume I want to enter a date 20-years-ago. Because you do not allow text entry, I am forced to scroll back month-by- month. Do you really think your customers have the time and patience to tolerate this? Imagine how pointless your app may become for those who wish to view the sky 200, or 2,000 years in the past or future. Allow for text entry in your drop-down fields and I will update my review. Until then -- for now, I see no point in using your app except for current or very-near date scenarios. For such limited options, I do indeed find your app engaging and informative.

App does what it says but my 5 stars go to that icon design. It's marvelously simple but catches my eye quite frequently whilst perusing the play store for new apps.
