Been playing with astronomy for 15 years and have used a few programs/apps for observing, and SkySafari is tops. Can't beat the amount of info and data. Could be improved navigation-wise as it takes a fair amount of getting used to, but so does all software!
Used to be very good, but now locks up on starting, leaving a completely black screen, and occasionally causing a reboot of my Galaxy S8 phone. Software is currently unuseable.
Sky Safari 5 Pro for Androied is a highly sophisticated astronomy app, which includes point and identify, planetarium, telescope control and numerous other fatures. The galaxy orientation feature is what wow'd me: the ability to visualize the position of deep sky objects according to their galactic longitude and latitude uniquely orients an observer to the 3-dimensional nature of the Milky Way. The cost of the app is more than repaid by what i offers
Does exactly what it claims. Easy, intuitive telescope control, excellent graphics, a great app!
Apart from not user friendly interface, objects like comet Neowise are not shown on the sky map. Quite disappointed.
Awesome app, they made a new version but this one is still great. Lots of detail and great features.
An excellent program. Find it easy to use. Makes star and planet identification simple.
The best to operate a telescope. Only 4 stars because you have to rebuy for every major update.
Been using for years with all of my dobs. Best so it there for digital circles with encoders.
Very reliable, precise information with special effects almost rivalling Star Wars!
Great telescope companion I just wish that it had a way to add one off objects like the 2I/Borisov
The most useful app in the inventory. And has been for a while.
great app easy to use and well worth the recognition as being the best.
Why does the compass just randomly get selected with no input?
The best of the best in Astronomy software ....!
It's very cool, no complaints considering it's a mobile app..
Overall a great app, but rather pricey.
great app, works well, use it a lot
app freezes when you try to write an observation
great program easy to use
use it when out at camp where the sky is clear.
The most comprehensive astronomy app
Probably the most expensive App that I have purchased, but having said that this is a incredible learning tool for exploring the universe above. The compass tool bar does a fairly accurate job of locating the planets and moon above. The app developer has gone to great lengths to detail the planets and stars above . There is always something new to learn . Fascinating ✌️
Incredibly versatile. A staggering quantity of objects catalogued, great tools to locate and learn about them, and a tonne of settings to customise how the app looks and functions. The time manipulation and helped me visualise the moon's orbit and phases, as well as where other planets are relative to us over time. The orbit view and galaxy map have been really useful in getting a sense of place in our galaxy. My only real complaint is that it can get a bit laggy, but it's usually in screens with text rather than the actual map so it doesn't impact most of what I'm doing.
I think Sky Safari 5 Pro is the absolute best astronomy program for Android. It is equivalent to Starry Night 7 Pro Plus for laptops. I consult Sky Safari more than once per day. It is my number one go-to app of all time. It is a bargain price as is Starry Night 7 Pro Plus considering all the astronomical expertise, electrical and software engineering that must have gone into their creation and maintenance. Simulation Curriculum and their staff are second to none as well. Dave
This. is the best scope on the market , ive had this several years and use it every day. several times ive spotted objects over the yrs. ive seen that i cant quit explain . Early this evening i seen and contacted my son in New York . Near the California Nebula i spotted an object that was vertical less than 1/16 in size in my scope and moving left to right of the screen . watched for about 5 to 6 min. then it stoped moving . around a min . later it started moving again and disapered .
Don't know if you're still reading these now but I am concerned about SS6. This app has been way too glitchy on android and you do seem very iOS focused. Now despite paying a large purchase price there are now also in app purchase which are unspecified. I really dont fancy laying out a ton of cash again to find that it is still not working right & I dont get enough objects. I loved SS4, SS5 never worked right so SS6? I really dont lnow guys...
Beautiful simple design and powerful functionality. I particularly like clicking the "Info" button and learning more details about the objects I'm observing. I get a kick out of leaning some tiny galaxy I'm looking at is hundreds of millions of lightyears away. Fabulous app to have at hand at the telescope.
