I pay a premium for Slate. The app is dysfunctional. I am constantly asked to sign in mid article and then redirected to the front page or receive an error and have to restart my app. The podcast player is a joke you can hardly pause or rewind and can't see where you are. The search engine is just ads and doesn't find anything even if you search exactly the name of an article. It's so frustrating because I like Slate's journalism and entertainment, but I have such a hardtime accessing it.
They really need to update their app. The picture makes it look updated so its misleading. I read their articles with my google news app and figured I could try it so I can delete google news, as I don't really use it that much. It doesn't work well, but my phone is new, I got it a week ago. It's not my device, it's the app. Please fix your app and I'll give a better rating.
Sadly, the app does not seem to work on an Android OS. All I ever see is 'error loading article please try again later'. The phone is connected to the internet just fine, nothing else is having trouble but the slate app. Disappointing!
This app is not up to date with the latest Android OS. I can't use it AT ALL - I just get a white screen with the Slate logo at the top. It seems like a total lack of care/initiative/business concern to not have an app that can keep up with OS updates in 2020. I have to read Slate through Google News. What is the deal???
No way to log in or go anywhere but a title page. And I can't install all of the podcasts at once - seem to now have to do them one by one. I've sent a request for help but there's no response. Think there are more useful things for me to spend my $6 a month on.
Apparently still doesn't work on Android. It does give an error message stating it is for an older version. Maybe they should rename the App Slate for Apple only?
I've requested a refund as the charge overdue my account. Granted I should have been more mindful, but their lack of respond for assistance is a tad ridiculous. Their customer service is terrible.
Love Slate, but this app is absolutely useless. Completely unable to display anything other than the menu. Should be zero stars.
Clicking on a headline does absolutely nothing. App is identical to the mobile version of the website, so no benefit to installing.
2.5 stars? I read the reviews and thought it can't be that bad. It is. At one time it was ok but now it just errors out. Brand new tablet fully updated os. It's not me. Help give this app the worst rating in the playstore . Download install and give it your rating. Btw, there is no zero stars rating which it deserves .
Stoped working after glitch forced me to uninstall & reinstall. App did not load any content whatsoever. Its ashamed, was enjoying it until it crashed.
Displays menu, but does not load content. Full disclosure: android Oreo ROM, but no probs any other app.
REALLY!!!!! USELESS.... Installed app. Immediately get message saying not updated for existing Android system. I read the reviews. You still haven't fixed this yet?
Horrible, rarely opens, rarely updates. Great if you want last years news
Same. Doesn't work on Android. Wouldn't have bought the subscription if I knew the app didn't work.
Great source for thoughtful analysis of news and culture.
The app does not work on my Android phone at all. Can't review it much beyond that.
Works for me. Just installed on a Google Pixel 4a 5G, Android 11. Maybe other's problems are due to a permissions issue?
Slate doesn't work with the new Galaxy S20 Ultra. I hope this is temporary.
An utter embarrassment. Take this down from the app store if it's broken and you won't support it. Unprofessional.
Hasn't worked in months, desperately needs to be updated
This app doesn't work at all anymore. All I get is a blank white screen.
Completely unusable and needs to be updated.
Out of date. No Slate Plus support
Won't open. News apps are so basic. No excuse for this
White screen only. I paid for Slateplus! Fool.
Could be better, could be worse. The app functions if you open it directly. If you are trying to read an article via a link (say from Google's newsfeed) it's completely broken. Once the link opens the app, the app "forgets" you're logged in but also won't let you log in to read the article. Also, not all sections are listed in the menu. It could really use drop-down menus so you can chose directly rather than relying on search or headers. Would love a way to favorite categories.
