Bearable for the $17 or so I paid as an introductory price, but not a service I'd keep for the long term. Video is constantly buffering and freezing. My latest issue is it won't let me cast to a Chromecast saying too many devices are in use. The device it wants me to stop is my phone which is the device I'm trying to cast from. A real shame as Sling is the last service not to jack its price to double what it started out at (see YouTube TV). But even for the low price, there are too many issues.
Like others describe, won't load at all sometimes, glitches in the middle of programming making you go back to home screen and select program again. Then watch all same commercials again before you can advance it to where you were. It's basically frustrating and inconsistent. Not too bad when it works, but no "replacement" for cable. 1 year later tried again, still awful glitches and program interruptions very frustrating.
I think its pretty bad that it's 2022 and Sling TV App still hasn't completely figured out how to get it to screen-cast without it glitching out. I don't know why it would offer screen-cast if it barely works correctly. Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max and even YouTube screen-casts 100% no problem. Sling TV App needs to get the screen-cast to work a lot better definitely if I'm paying the highest price available.
I would rate slang much higher, except that for all the channels I watch on sling, there seems to be a constant problem a dialogue cutting out right before a commercial and generally in the middle of a sentence. It gets pretty annoying. Also almost every time I watch sling, I get tons of buffering and we have upgraded the Google Fiber so we have an excellent internet connection. Other than those two issues I would rate this at 5. Available channels are great, maintaining the account is easy.
Doesn't load correctly on my tv. I downloaded this app to my TCL android tv and it's the ONLY app that gives me problems. When I open the app it doesn't load, I have to exit, reload, exit, reload, and on and on before it will work. This happens EVERY SINGLE TIME. Very annoying. Sling needs to fix this bug asap. Also, I cannot scroll episodes on demand. When I search for a show it takes me to a screen with episodes. However, It won't allow me to scroll down to ANY of the episodes.
This app and the desktop version are both terrible. If a game goes past it's "scheduled" end time it becomes unavailable. The video player on PC Gives an error message about 1/3 of the time I try to use it. You get no DVR controls and cannot pause games. I'll be seeking a refund for my one month subscription and never coming back. Easily the worst option for streaming NBA games, much worse than YouTube TV or Fubo.
Why does it stop what I'm watching at the end time of whatever?! NBA playoffs go passed the end time, so it just stops with the Sling logo on the screen instead of going straight to the next show that's scheduled to start. Sometimes it starts from an earlier part of the stream, like a recorded version. So frustrating missing even seconds or a minute or so.
I'm beyond frustrated with this app. You have unskippable ads for on demand content (fine, I can make my peace with that, gotta make money), but then the content itself doesn't play, it just gets stuck on the final frame of the ad. I've tried this several times across two different devices. I'll probably be cancelling my Sling subscription and never returning based on how buggy the last two days have been.
The app layout is horrible. Navigating is a nightmare. When you finally get where you're going everything is fine. If you decide to change the channel if you're lucky there is a box of the channel that you want to click on. But sometimes that box is lost among all of slings channels. What they need to do is a simple channel up channel down so you can switch between two channels without having to look for a stupid box to click on.
When choosing on demand content with submenus, I am unable to access them because the app stops letting me scroll vertically. Customer service is so frustrating to deal with as they don't take time to understand the problem, and this issue has lasted for well over 6 months with zero fixes. Sling was great when it first came out. Hard to justify paying for something when you can't access all the content.
Not the best of the TV apps. Wanted to try something different than Hulu Tv .Bad idea. On my smart TV, app doesn't even work. Continued buffering. Why? I have 5G? When it does finally work, cuts out. Can't watch playoff game when it freezes or stops every 2min. On my phone better but still bad. Skips & lags. Smh. Wanted to give them a try but it was a waste of money and time. Not to mention NO local ABC or CBS news??. Really. If you're looking for a quality provider, Hulu Live= A-. Sling = D+.
There is NO cast icon, and I was planning to watch the Final Four game of Duke vs UNC tonight! The entire reason why I subscribed today was to watch this huge game. Very disappointed. Bad way to start off Sling subscription. I have tried everything I can think of to fix the casting problem, but nothing works. I don't know what the deal is. AND, I cannot watch Sling TV on my PlayStation as a backup.
I have a Samsung a32 and as 5/10/22 it takes forever to get the sling app to open all of a sudden. Tmobil sent out an update, that should not have impacted the app like that. I hope you fix it before I cancel my service permanently. I believe it has something to do with all those forced ads pop ups like I'm watch some free bs apk streaming app. Not good, sling.
Service itself was great but the billing and customer service is horrible. I had Sling blue with dvr plus which was $5 extra. I went and cancelled the dvr plus several days before my billing period, and it specifically said this when I double checked it several times. I was charged anyway and contacted customer service. The agent would not refund the $5 and kept saying that Sling is a prepay service and that It couldn't be changed. He seemed more interested in helping me cancel my service.
Update: 04/16/222 can nolonger cast sling to chromecast device starting to become a waste of money. My biggest complaint is the guide... I am tired of being charged for programing I click on AFTER I SET IT FOR MY PROGRAMS ONLY thinking I am seeing only my channels!!! Customer service is lacking in that being helpful. Slow loading on our tv apps. I say its all the overload on the graphics. Hope to see better soon.
I use the app mostly to cast to my Chromecast on the TV. One big pain point is the app really doesn't like when you stop in the middle of an on demand show and try to resume at a later time. Another - fast forwarding through commercials in a recorded show can be glitchy. Would hope for more in 2022, but it's semi-functional I guess.
The service and the app are bad. Watching an on demand show and lost connection. Restarted the episode and it did not save progress so I had to fast forward. 3 commercial breaks later I realized I had skipped too far forward. Went to rewind and a 4th commercial break came on so I just left it there and missed part of the episode. Commercials in on-demand is bad enough but 4 commercials while trying to return where you left off is garbage.
Very poor service - it keeps pausing during live playback and brings me back to the home screen. On other occasions, it randomly pauses live TV and resumes playback from 20 minutes ago... And it keeps pausing on the hour. Not worth it at all, YouTube TV is a bit more expensive, but miles ahead of Sling.
This app feels like it's still in very early development stages. FF/rewind lives it's own life, it's impossible to go to place you need, preview is completely irrelevant. Payments is a mess, no matter how hard I tried I couldn't resubscribe with Amazon. Android app doesn't give any choice besides GPay. I can't watch recorded program from the start. The only good thing about it is the price, but I just might get so annoyed during these 2 days of trial that I'll pay double for good quality service
Awful. Guess that's why it's the cheapest. Constant buffering, a/v sync issues, game automatically rewinds an hour when it's supposed to be ending. UI/UX designed by undergrads in India apparently. Not only am I going to cancel I want my money back. Completely free streaming apps are honestly 100x times better than this.
This is the absolute glitchiest, aggravating app ever! It will shut your device OFF randomly. It will randomly not load video's. Commercial breaks will make the video stop and take you back to the menu where you will have to select the show again. The show will start with the same commercial and then shut off again. So you end up closing sling and doing something else in hopes that whatever the issue is will be resolved later. Sometimes it is but most times it isnt. It's completely unreliable.
As of late the buffering is ridiculous. I mean I cant even make it through a few minutes without it buffering and sometimes the screen just goes black for several minutes. It also sometimes causes my TV to actually turn off. Very anmoying. Another annoyance is that at the end of a show it will go back to the middle of the same episode rather than play the next one. I then have to turn my TV off and back on because just coming out of the channel isnt enough.
Android TV version is very glitchy. It frequently goes to black screen for a few seconds to reload. Also when one selects a channel, the programming that come up is from hours before (e.g. getting CNN's early morning show at 4pm). It may take two or more attempts to get the correct ("live") stream for any given channel. It's still cheaper than cable, though.
On a new TCL Google TV (65r646) this app is just awful. Once you actually start streaming it is fine, problem is it will hang on a grey screen almost every time when trying to start it, after 2 or 3 attempts it usually works. But I just don't have the time or patience to keep clicking buttons waiting for Sling to figure out how to get their software working on a pretty mainstream TV set. All the other apps are pretty stable on this TV, why can't Sling hire some decent software developers who know what they are doing and get the app working correctly. Just not worth it, I only really subscribed to watch news channels, going to have to ditch it and go with local news.
Not great, but a cheaper option. If you are looking for a great streaming service, this is not it. While watching shows it cuts off in middle of talking to go to commercial. Streaming on phone works well but not on TV even with brand new TV. The same commercials are shown relentlessly. Sling will freeze or need reboot or circle a lot. Very frustrating. Also, even with best package you are limited on how many devices you can use so read the fine print.
