SlingPlayer Free for Phone

I have had the paid app for a few years. The controls were very easy to use as they were placed on either side of the screen. However after updating I was forced to the "free" app. The "free" app is complete garbage as the controls take up the entire screen. If you get this app you can forget about using a DVR because it's now impossible. They really need to go back to the old controls on the sides of the screen. If they do, I will consider updating my review.

basically, if the network connection is capable, system works amazingly well. but it seems on some release they've eliminated the facsimile of Verizon's remote, so many functions (eg, dvr) are not available. there are several "custom" buttons, but doesn't seem to be any way to program them. and, of course, one can't get an answer from them without paying for the privilege... edit 8/19: without the old remote that used to be in the screen any sort of navigation becomes a series of juggled screens

This app has been trash the entire time I've had it (4+ years). They fixed some of the problems, but now there are inexplicably even more problems. Can't change channels using the guide view, only gallery view. Can't change channels with guide and gallery while casting. Sometimes the remote let's me punch in a # while casting, but it crashes the cast. You have to scroll all the way back to the top of the channel list to cast. Great product ruined by a terrible user experience.

This is how to use the better older app that the picture would freeze or go black if you still have it or can get it. Put your phone into portrait only mode. Get an app like "set otientation" set that app to automatic. Open the slingplayer app with holding the phone physically in portrait. After getting the picture now turn phone horizontal. Keep it in horizontal and all functions will work with no freezing. This worked on both my samsung phones.

I appreciate that there's an app to view my Slingbox on Android. However, the app had very limited functionality compared to the desktop player for PC. For instance, there's no virtual remote on the app with which to turn on the remote set top box if it's off. And the help option on the app arrears to be a placeholder with no info. Running Android 10 on Google Pixel.

Figured out why previous paid app purchase does not register on new free app version. Sling Media removed the previous paid version from the app store and with it the records of our previous purchase. Now, when you install this app it has no record of previous purchase. Hence the need to repurchase to remove ads. Plus this app is not split screen compatible. Once you use a different split screen app it stops playing. Now I'm forced to try and contact the developers and wait for some solution.

Gone downhill... I purchased the ad free edition and I can see ads downloading in the background when I click 'start watching' through network monotoring. I don't want a guide, I don't want suggestions. Just take me to the stream. There is so much useless, unused fluff. The app isint even worth $1.99 yet alone $14! The interface for the iPad is the best one - why can't I see the full DirecTV remote on my HIGHER RESOLUTION Android? onger wonky buttons instead.

SlingPlayer has been a buggy but necessary app for travelers who use Sling boxes. Really rely on it for traveling. Could be a 5 star app, but lost a star for its bugginess, and another for it's exit from Roku channels which allowed better quality on a bigger screen (blame goes to Roku, as well, on this one).

Won't connect half the time. Drops and reconnects. Terrible controls. Please bring back slingplayer for tablets. All my other devices work with the old player. While traveling they would rather watch on there phones. They like the old player better than the new tablet. Very disappointed in the new app.

Not sure what happened with this update. The new update is terrible in that video does not stream. I get a still picture of video, but video will not 'play" . Terrible. I re installed, did not solve the problem. Old version worked good enough, this is terrible and makes my 2 sling boxes unusable. Please fix

Might be the most inept app developers on Earth. After charging me for the app after buying the equipment, they release a free app that's marginally better. Thanks for the refund, not. I can sort of cast but now they made the scroll window too small for more than one Chromecast. lol it's comical. Get it together for 5 minutes, please!

Guide interface is poor and doesn't work correctly. After scrolling guide a selection can not be made. When scrolling guide show times disappear from view. UI in older version was far better. New app also removed useful defaults. Generally a poor upgrade from the previous version.

Pretty good, my only beef is when i play on larger screen my iPhone video out cable the picture does not come close to filling the screen. I usually get something different everytime, once in a blue moon does it ever completely fill screen. The screen size settings also do not correct

I can't believe I waited so long to install this new version. I had the several-years-old Slingplayer app, the one that forced you to use it in landscape mode. I had so many error messages (saying my Slingbox wasn't connected to the Internet when I knew it was) and frozen video images (while the audio played in the background). I finally decided to uninstall the old app and install this one and...BOOM...all those problems went away. And, no ads bc I had paid for the ad-free version before.

works best if both source and viewer's internet connection is at least 30mbps, in my opinion. sure, remote and navigating menus is laggy, but once connected, 90% of the time, i can stream seamlessly. now, why dont they have a native app for android boxes, is a bummer. works well with my fire tvs though.

This app has been abandoned by Sling. No updates, Chromecast support is terrible. My guess is that they do not have a developer capable of keeping up with it so they just do the bare minimum to keep it going. Very, very dissapointing.

Can't live without my slingbox. Have this box for over 10 years, and the app has worked perfectly on every phone, tablet and pc I've used. Hope they come back and make a new box, but until then, this will work just fine.

I used to love my slingplayer and app. I paid good money for this box. An first problem I am unable to stream to my chromecast keep getting an error message worked fine before now error everytime try. Tried multiple devices. Now I read that they are takin this away from us soon all together. Not cool

Piece of junk app. Paid $30 several years ago for an ad free version. Had to reinstall it on a new phone, now I can only get the "free" version which can't even find my Slingbox even though I can see it from the PC software. What a joke this company is. I'd give zero stars if I could...

This app has worked 1 out of 10 times I try to use it and even then it takes forever to use. I don't have a single good thing to say about its UX, its functionality, or its connection to the Roku app. Needs a complete overhaul.
