Organic food is the safer choice when it comes to buying produce, as conventional varieties often contain high levels of pesticide residues. However, not everyone can afford to go 100% organic every time they shop. This app is a guide to which fruits and vegetables you should buy organic. There are some fruits/veggies that you should always buy organic, if possible, because their conventionally grown counterparts tend to be laden with pesticides.
By avoiding the foods most contaminated with pesticide residues, consumers can reduce their pesticide exposure by 80% without affecting their budgets.

*****************************WHAT ARE PESTICIDES
Pesticides are used to repel, control or kill organisms in order to reduce their negative impact on agricultural products. Modern pesticides target weeds, insects, bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi and other pests that reduce agricultural yield.
Excessive pesticide contamination can be harmful to human health. Even after washing, some fruits and vegetables consistently carry much higher levels of pesticide residue than others.
Some fruits and veggies are better to buy organic, and others are safe to buy non-organic. Some fruits and vegetables require very few pesticides for growth. Some, due to tough skins or peels, absorb fewer residues.
Many fruits and vegetables, however, are sprayed with multiple pesticides, and act like sponges, absorbing residues that are difficult to wash off entirely. Peaches have very thin skin, and are hard to wash, so it is recommended that you buy organic if you can.

I liked and used this app for years and initially gave it 5 stars but then when I attempted to install it on my new phone and it kept crashing when I tried to open it I noticed the app here on the Google Play store had not been updated since 2015 (6 years ago). I also see that it still works on my old phone without an Internet connection so basically it is just an outdated list of the pesticide content of foods from six years ago and I find that disturbing as it is important to me that recommendations on which foods are safe to consume when conventionally grown and which should only be eaten when organically grown should be current! This also explains why I have noticed a few inconsistencies between this app's recommendations and the recommendations from other sources on the Internet that were current. So basically this app is just an outdated list using your phone's resources. I no longer trust this app and would not use it even if I could open it on my new phone and I am changing my rating to one star and then uninstalling it. Personally, I think Google should remove this app from the Play Store considering the fact that it could actually harm people if any of the foods that were safe six years ago are not unsafe or if people are avoiding certain healthy foods that are now safe only because they were heavily laden with pesticides six years ago. The app description does state that GMO's have been added but additional genetically modified foods are added to our food supply on a regular basis and that alone could cause significant differences in the pesticide content of those foods in either direction.
My only complaint with this app is that the data on pesticide exposure of produce has not been updated since 2015. I've previously used Environmental Working Group's "Dirty Dozen" app. It was updated about every 2 years and it was found in 2017 that strawberries for example, are much more polluted with pesticides and nerve gas than they were in 2015. Spinach also. Unfortunately I now cannot find EWG's Dirty Dozen app in the Android play store. I chose this app as an alternative. It needs updating
Hi, would you please restore this app? It's been crashing upon opening since March. Looking at reviews this is happening with other users also. I used this app all the time. We miss it! Can't find another one like it.
A Great program to keep you healthy. Please update the program. It has been crashing since March 2021. It opens and immediately closes. We use it all the time.
Can't open it anymore... had the same problem as Michael... had it for years and loved it untill i got my new phone... the developer(s) should really update this app. Super disappointing they haven't yet...

Simple & straightforward, does exactly what it advirtises. I use it for the pesticide level on produce as it only tells tou farmers markets in the US.

This app doesn't work on my latest phone - when I try to run it, I'm told to check for updates. When I click check for updates, I got a message from the publisher saying that it has been updated. However, this app is not working right on my Android 11 phone. Damn shame - it really is an excellent app! If you're still running a phone that's pre-11, get this one - it's got really comprehensive information.
