UPDATE: It got to the point where we couldn't sent text images and regular texts would sometimes send, sometimes not. Our location and use did not change, this was simply an app failure - can't have that for business communication. We had no choice but to switch the number away from smartline. (And yes, we called in, went through the steps. "Known issue" even though it wasn't reported on GoDaddy status page.) PREVIOUS REVIEW We use heavily for business. It's mostly functional, but its buggy.
Contractors beware. App updates are not frequent enough to keep up with resolution of the *many* hiccups of this app. Text messages stay stuck in the "Sending..." mode, rendering the texting function useless. As for calls, it takes several (5+) seconds for the app to show who's calling while my phone is ringing, and then numbers do not even show up in call log of app. GoDaddy should be offering free service on this app in beta mode since still many bugs need sorting. LOOK ELSEWHERE. 😖👎👎
Lately it's been acting up and I have to remove and install app again. It then doesn't let me log in to my account and my saved messages don't show. Going to have to fund another app that works better without these BS issues. Have been using it for 3 years but can't run a business with these issues.
The app is consistently faulty. Very often messages don't come through unless I go in and manually refresh, sometimes I have to do this multiple times to get messages to show. I've missed several attempts at contact due to this. Calls don't come through often as well. I also can't see what number is calling me. It'll say incoming smartline call and will show my number instead of the number that's calling me. Messages I send also take awhile to go through. This app needs major improvement.
It's good when it works, rarely, the messages stays stuck on "sending..." can't see who is calling, and takes a long time and a lot of refreshing to see new messages. I get the notification but the app doesn't show it. Disappointing.
Can't send JPEGs, no matter how small the file is. Frequent get "failed to send" errors some do go through anyway. No way to send bug reports within app. When sending a text it says, "sending" perpetually. Never sure if it sent or froze. App is reasonable but needs plenty of work.
This 2nd line used to be great. Never had an issues but all of a sudden messages would get stuck sending so I would send again and then 20-30 minutes later my client would get multiple messages once they finally sent. Lately my messages won't load, I will see them in the thread listing but when you click on them there is nothing there, they will load but at random intervals, never when I need to read them. Now calling godaddy and the hold time is 39 min??? I think they are having many issues.
Avoid this app like the plague!!! Texts won't send or receive, phone calls don't come through properly and the worst part is I set this up as my business number so it's on all my cards etc so I have a very hard time moving away from it! Don't get stuck with this lousy app!
It was great until it wasn't. I am having the same issue as another reviewer. I cannot send image messages and my business heavily relies on such. I will be looking into switching my number to something else as well.
If I could rate this a 0 star I would. I cannot believe this app is advertised and used by manu for businesses and it continues to crash, not load messages, not send texts, send photos, recieves part messages. Absolutely trash. Working on a replacement stay away totally unreliable for businesses.
Frequently crashes and stops allowing us to make outbound calls. This often results in multiple phone reboots, app Uninstaller and reinstall, etc usually in vain until it decides to start working on it's own.
Tried to start the free trial and picked a phone number then put in my credit card info clicked start free trial and nothing happens!!! Can't log in with the user name and password I used to sign up!!!! Gives me an error code when I try to use my phone number!!! I hope I do get charged next month for something I can't use!!!
Horrible support when technical issues occur. GoDaddy doesn't proactively communicate when there are SmartLine outages. You'll waste hours trying to call Tech Support (which is extremely understaffed, although very professional) only to find there is a "known issue". If you rely on this for business expect issues. A simple email to subscribers, or a message through their app, letting you know there is an outage would help. Unfortunately they don't seem to care about their subscribers experience
Very few issues with app. Downsides- can't change outgoing caller id. If it's even possible, no clear place to change notification and ring tones.
having issues lately with texts not being sent or received. it can take 20 to 30 min before it's sent. how is this helpful if the app is being sold as a secondary BUSINESS line. communication needs to be quick and reliable. something this is not doing all the time
For the past few months I have had text message not send until the next day. I receive messages but can't see them because the feed won't update. Since I use this as my business line this has become a real issue. I loved having SM but the service has become a negative in my opinion.
This app used to be good. Last 2 months I cannot send text messages, sometimes I could recieve. Called tech supports, they were useless. Said everything is fine. Obviously not, every have same issues. You think they would credit your monthly billing. Horrible.
This app is the worst I have ever used. The messages continuously load and then say failed to send so I send a f w times but apparently the receiver was getting them. I tried to call GoDaddy and they are absolutely no help. I have lost some business because of this app not working. Stay away from this one.
This is such a horrible app and the biggest problem now is that I use this second line for my business. I will send a message and it will sit there loading. Maybe the message goes out in a few seconds or maybe in a few days. I have lost revenue due to this badly maintained app. I'll have a customer call asking if I had received message they sent yesterday!! Do not use this app. Also when you call godaddy they will say well we offer the service but it is provided by a third party.
Sometimes to get notified from calls/texts. Often i do get notifies but when i go in the app the text dont load. Or cant call back for an hour or more at times. Auto loggs off sometimes so i dont realize it and missed alot of calls/texts. Its a terrible app....
I want to love it but the service is not great. Msgd don't send, incoming msgs dnt come through, if u send more than 3 msgs in a row to the same person smartline blocks u and u need to call them to trouble shoot etc. It has Not been a beneficial businesses tool for my business. If anything iv lost clients due to clients not recieving msgs from me and me not receiving clients replies. Would not recommend for your business. I do love the fact VM is transcribed to text.
Works okay. Biggest problem for me is with caller ID, shows a name only about half of the time (saved contacts). Also get annoyed by display delays.
Decent app. Although I wish I could clean up my call log a bit. I have a ton of spam calls (even with spam filter turned on) and I would like to delete them from the call list because it's very cluttered looking. Also it doesn't show you the number that is calling you, it just says "Business call" when it's ringing. Update: the app has gotten very laggy- I get a notification for a new text message, but when I open the app it doesn't show the message for at least 10 minutes. Very frustrating 😕
It doesn't send all of your text messages. They are left on "sending". It picks and chooses which messages goes through or not. It doesn't show the messages received! It's like that with every single client I text or that texts me. It's very annoying! I'm so over this smartline. I will NOT be renewing once my contract is up. Don't waste your time. Save yourself a headache and keep searching for another business line app.
For calls and voicemail it works okay, but for texting not so much. My experience has been frustrating to say the least and little to no customer service available. I often get notifications that I have a text but can't read it. I also often have a difficult time sending messages, I type a text and after hitting send it will either fail to send or get stuck sending and not confirm sent. Logging into the app is frustrating too. Overall for a paid subscription app it's not worth it.
Doesn't really do anything well. It has been over a year since I last had a voicemail greeting update without failing on this app. The calls are forwarded but often only ring once before going to voice mail. The text messages fail to send 9 times out of 10. Overall this app is terrible and doesn't deliver on any level.
Like others say, texts don't often work and it's slow to send at best. Verizon alternatively makes you pay for 2 service plans on a dual sim phone and it's double the price of 1 number.

Worst phone service ever. Can't sign in, can't change payment, can't personalize, doesn't receive calls or texts, basically a complete waste of money.
When you stop subscribing, you lose access to all of your text messages. In addition, there is no group texting, there are significant outages, texts are not searchable, and texts for identify verification often do not arrive in time. But losing access to my messages after I needed to upgrade is the reason that prompted this review. There was no warning that this would happen, and I lost essential information for my business and created a really embarrassing situation with a client.
