There should be an option for No stars. The app simply does not work properly in an way shape or form. I have to sign into the app every time I want to use it which is pointless. I might as well just do everything manually because it takes more time to sign in than manual entry. The thermo settings are never aligned. My thermo can literally be off and the app will show it set to the A/C. The lock and unlock setting...🙄 I'm not even going to get into that, the status is always wrong.
It works when it wants to. Sometimes I change the thermostat temp and you can hear the AC or heat turn on right away. Other times like today, I have the heat setting to 66, the app says it's 64 in here, so I turned it up to 68 to try and get the heat moving..... nothing. It's fine, I can get up and change the thing myself, but what's the point in the app. Same thing goes for the lock/unlock feature, it's hit or miss. Definitely NOT reliable.
I was forced to have SmartRent by my apartment complex. Within the first week I had to reach out to tech support four times because the app and hub won't communicate. I finally gave up contacting them because it's always the same troubleshooting steps that temporarily solves the problem. Within a few hours of the fix, the app and hub quit communicating. It's made my life more difficult not easier as not a single day goes by that the app works as it should.
Our complex installed this system. I was hopeful at first. Quickly realized it's hit or miss if it's going to work. I've had to contact help desk 2x. Once because the app just wouldn't work. Had to reboot system several times and reinstall the app. And the other was the sensor in the laundry area kept BEEPING! Saying it was leak. Created a work order. BUT THERE WAS NO LEAK. Again an email to help desk. All these fancy gadgets aren't useful if THEY DON'T WORK PROPERLY. I'm moving soon.
Worthless! At first I thought this was going to be so convenient but it has turned out to be a major pain in my butt! My thermostat keeps disconnecting from The Hub and when this happens my AC does not work! I call, get it added back and then a few days later it's disconnected from The Hub again! I cannot do this all summer! I shouldn't have to either!
My apartment had them installed recently and it worked great. For a few weeks. Now it's slow, it's laggy, it doesn't connect properly, and even after it connects you can be sitting there, staring at your unlock for minutes and it still won't unlock. We don't even have keys so this is the only way to unlock the door. Fix the damn connection issues. I hate having to launch this app, select unlock and still have to wait 5 minutes for it to actually unlock.
I've found this app to be pretty unreliable. It often displays the wrong status for my devices, like showing the door as unlocked when it's actually locked or showing the thermostat in cool mode when it's actually in heat mode. Plus, I have it configured to "keep me logged in" but it doesn't, at least not for more than a day or so at a time.
April 2022 update: This deserves zero stars. The thermostat scheduling is routinely ignored and the app and the thermostat are usually out of sync. Most nights my thermostat changes the temp it is set to on it’s own. This is totally unacceptable. Their support is useless. They walk through the same steps that might fix the problem for a day or two. There is no reason anyone should use this company’s products or services. I would literally be better off with one of those old school analog thermostats where you can physically set a schedule.
Apartment forced this on us. Wanted to use the app but it will not turn on fingerprint use so I either have to remain logged in all of the time and my address shows on the app (so if someone steals your phone they not only know where you live but can just open the door) or I have to sign in every time which takes more time than typing in a code. So frustrating and useless. I put in a question to see about turning fingerprint use on and never heard back. Can't wait to move and leave this behind.
Terrible app that was clearly never properly tested before it was released. Constant bugs. Controlling the thermostat simply doesn't work, period. But worst of all, I'm constantly being signed out. It would be nice to be able to unlock my door remotely, but it's faster to put in the door code than it is to type in my login every time. And yes, I have "stay signed in" enabled, your app is just not functional. UPDATE 4 months later: this is still not fixed, and the app remains pretty much useless
I have to sign in every time and half the time it hangs up. Biometrics does not work at all. I have had to uninstall and reinstall the app several times because It does not lock nor unlock via the app. As well it does not turn lights off or on with the app. Poorly tested before deployment. I want my key back. 🔑
Door and light control works as expected. Thermostat control on the other hand is completely useless. And support seems to think if they do the same thing over and over again it will eventually work - hint: it doesn't. App can't: - control the temperature - see the correct room temperature/humidity - set a schedule that works If you were forced into using this by a landlord just use the thermostat in non z-wave scheduling mode and bypass the app, if you bought it throw it out and get a product that works. Edit: I have sent another support email but did you read I had already contacted support several times. update: after several interactions with support I can only say the problem is now worse Update 5/17/22: Don't ever call customer service my barely working thermostat now will not work remotely at all.
Sometimes it doesnt communicate with the system. It almost never adjusts the temp setting when i try to change it. Biometrics doesn't work even though they claimed to have fixed it. I've checked updates so my app is updated. Overall very frustrating to use.
Fantastic addition to our apartment, makes it a lot more convenient for remote access for turning lights on and off when not at home and for checking if you truly did lock the door when leaving. Only removing one star as I do get logged out a lot despite having 'stay logged in' enabled. It's quick to log back in though with biometrics.
App does not sync with devices. If I lock the door or change the thermostat manually it does not register. The apartment complex I live in started using this app for gate entry and now there is usually a line of cars waiting to sneak in because the app doesn't work.
I honestly hate this. My apartment forced us to get these locks and now it doesn't even work after a week. I'm looking at my door right now and it's unlocked, but the app says it's locked. I went outside to try to get everything synced again (locked it manually and attempted to unlock using the app) But now it's not even responding. I cleared my app caches but nothing is synced up. I do not feel safe leaving my home.
Biometric is garbage! I check mark use biometric signin on the login screen everytime I log into the application as well as update the signin preference in the settings yet it never persists to the next time I open the app. Stay signed in doesn't work either but it wouldn't bother me if the bio login worked. So frustrating and I'm forced to use the app because of my apartment management. Just a pathetic app.
Rating this a 1 because 0 isnt an option.. most recent update from last month says the bug that keeps signing you out is fixed. It is not. I have to sign in every single time i open the app regardless of whether biometrics or stay signed in are checked. Extremely inconvenient. My apartment installed the locks for this, if i had the choice I would never use this. It is terrible. FIX YOUR GARBAGE APP
frequently does not work. you set a mode and temp and nothing happens. so you have to switch to a new mode then switch back, sometimes 3 or 4 times, then it finally actually switches. annoying when you're there and can tell, potentially bad when you're doing it from anywhere else which is kind of the whole point.
Doesn't Work... No matter what the temp is set to, the app always says 72 Degrees 33% Humidity. Now that it's getting warm I set it to cool mode at 74 degrees. Got home and it was 82 in the apartment... had to set it to cool mode on the thermostat even though the app said it was in cool mode.
Randomly changes the thermostat while you are sleeping so you wake up sweating. Using a code is significantly slower to unlock the door than a physical key. App records every time you open and close the front door which is not good for privacy, there is no way to disable this tracking.
I keep having to lower my rating because this is the worst app ever! I hate that my apartment forced me into it. It works but the option to stay logged in doesn't work, super annoying. Had to lower my score due to all the glitches. I even uninstalled and tried again. Still doesn't keep me logged in. Password requirements are ridiculous especially since it doesn't save it. Why offer to stay logged in if it doesn't work?
The app is a bit clunky. The thermostat does not sync regularly and didn't even have all of the features on the app as on the thermostat. I should be able to set it for away from the app. Also, turning the fan on circulation is not an option from the app. I don't use it for the lights and use it less and less for the door and the thermostat.
The app constantly logs out even when checking the stay logged in box each time. Android phone without biometrics. Leaving the app I hit the home button and not back. Thermostat display often shows different than actual. Complex forced this so they could raise new leases by 20%.
This app is what I have to use to get into my apartment. Apps dealing with home access should be reliable. When they are not, it can be a huge safety issue. Constant bugs,sometimes not pulling up at all. Getting into my home should not be this unreliable.
It has a panic attack whenever the temp inside gets to 80 then auto turns on the ac and files a maintenance ticket ... We have the windows open and live in a warm climate there's a lovely breeze. Please stop try to cool down the world. There's nothing wrong with the cooling system.
The only reason that I have to have this app installed it's too control my AC, and it's the only thing that does not work properly, never shows me the current and real state of the AC, ir is turn on and it shows it turn off.
the app never wants to work right & nothing is being done about it. looks like people have been having the same issues as us for a while, but the same issues persist literally since we got the smart rent stuff in our apartment. our hub goes offline randomly & the app says our heat is OFF and that our door is unlocked when that isn't true. it's all defective. & hard to feel safe & secure in OUR OWN HOME because of this. it needs to be fixed. it's been happening for a while and hasn't been fixed.
Forced into having this by apartment complex and it never works. Update says they fixed stay log in and bio metrics log in but neither work now. Thermostat never changes when I try to use it on the app. This app is just frustrating ans pointless.
Terrible. For the benefit of--being able to let in a dogwalker while you're at work?--every time you enter your home can be slightly less convenient, with the added benefit of the need to worry about batteries and connectivity to make sure you can get into your home. From a purely technical standpoint, the app routinely fails to change locked/unlocked status (while the door does indeed lock), meaning that the app needs to be toggled back and forth to simply unlock a door. And at least in my building, the bluetooth/RFID entry simply does not work. You may as well start memorizing however many codes you need to get into your building, unit, public areas, etc. This is useful only to property managers while making life more difficult for residents with no discernable benefits to security or convenience. The most frustrating part is that if you are reading this, you almost certainly have no choice but to use it.
