* THE ORIGIN & HISTORY OF SMOOTH JAZZ MUSIC ********************

Smooth jazz is a music genre which evolved from Jazz fusion and can be traced to as far back as the 1960s. It has been molded together or individually by funk, R&B, rock, jazz, as well as pop music styles. Smooth jazz is also one kind of radio format. Generally, a smooth jazz is a down-tempo (usually in the 90–105 beats per minute range) music led by melody-playing instruments, particularly tenor and soprano saxophones and guitars. This music is played over a musical backdrop which is often comprised of various samples and pads as well as programmed rhythms.

Smooth jazz artists or recording groups tend to play instruments in a melodic style, so much so that they are distinguished easily within just a few measures. Artists that fit this style include saxophonists David Sanborn, Kenny G, Najee, Art Porter, Jr, and the late George Howard; pianists Bradley Joseph, Joe Sample, David Benoit; and guitarists Earl Klugh, George Benson, Marc Antoine, Ray Parker, Jr, Norman Brown, Jonathan Butler, Ronny Jordan, Yves Vincent, and Peter White. Some other notable groups and performers include Bob James, Nathan East, Dave Koz, Keiko Matsui, Joyce Cooling, Candy Dulfer, Pamela Williams, Anita Baker, Regina Belle, Fourplay, Acoustic Alchemy, Airborne, The Rippingtons, and Pieces of a Dream.

The majority of stations listed do not connect. Constant error file and no list of what's playing each moment on all stations. Just hit and miss...mostly miss...
