SmoothSync for Cloud Contacts

SmoothSync for Cloud Contacts syncs your iCloud contacts. Due to its implementation as sync adapter it integrates seamlessly with the native contacts app and operates invisible in the background. This app is bundled with Contact Editor Pro to allow you to edit synced contacts on pre-Android 4 devices.
Also, check out SmoothSync for Cloud Calendar to sync your iCloud calendars!

Samsung S5 users: Please note that some S5 devices come with a broken contacts app that crashes when opening a contact synced by this app. Please report any crashes to Samsung.

Important note for Android 4.1 and Samsung users: To prevent the removal of your accounts on reboot install this app (before you install SmoothSync):https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.dmfs.jb.workaround.icloudcontactsAs of Android 4.2 this issue is fixed and the workaround no longer necessary (except for Samsung devices), please uninstall it.

HTC One users please check out this site first: http://dmfs.org/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Sense_issue

The app is designed to be as user friendly as possible. Just enter your account data and SmoothSync will keep your contacts in sync.

The app will not sync Contacts from other accounts (like Google) to iCloud!

Please, if you find a bug send me an email. Without detailed error description I often can't do anything especially when I can't reproduce it.

Important! If your phone removes the accounts on reboot, move the App back from SD card to the phone. Some phones (if not all) can't handle sync adapters on SD Card properly. Also check if you need the workaround app mentioned above.

Thanks to the guys at http://www.busymac.com/ for their support!!

I have used this app for a few years and it has been very useful in syncing my icloud contacts to my android phone. Several days ago it stopped working! I now get an error message "An error occurred" every-time the phone attempts to sync. The result being my contacts have been removed from my android phone. . I logged a support docket with the developer but have not received a reply. In the absence of a reply/fix I can not recommend smoothsync for cloud contacts Update: The Developer of this software offered me access to development version of Smoothsync for icloud. Whilst the software is still "Work In Progress" it is effectively syncing my schedule, contacts, and tasks.Well done!

Have used this app with others from the same developer for years. Been getting an error like other users for several weeks. The developer acknowledged the issue but wasn't sure when a fix would be issued. A shame as I'm now having to look elsewhere for alternative solutions. Update:27th Mar. Followed the advice of others & switched to Smoothsync for icloud which seems to work. Would of been nice for the developer to have suggested this the first time I contacted them. If this app is no longer supported or functions it should be removed from the store.

Was an amazing app, had it installed for about 5 years and no issues. A few days ago I started getting error messages. Submitted them to support. Emailed support no response at all. What a shame cause when it worked it was great. Not sure what to do now.

It was terrific. But recently, I keep getting the message that the app is reporting an error and the sync has not worked. I'm desperate....have written to the developers together with the error message.

It's a great app, I've been using for several years but since few months I can't sync my contacts, it only give an error occurred while trying to sync the app. Can I get help on it please? 3 stars due too this error as I mailed the developer a few times but haven't got any answer from him.

Did work originally a few years ago and did the job it was supposed to. However doesn't work anymore. I purchased this app and the calendar one but there has been no support provided by publisher after several emails. No reply, no support and doesn't work. Don't bother wasting your time.

The app is not working properly. And the support is non existent or useless. There is a funny guy called Silvio Ankermann that replied my tickets and that only provides from time to time and after intensive follow-up some useless information (e.g. asking me whether I have received a previous message instead of addressing the issue right there and right away) and then disappears for several weeks. Very disappointed!

It used to be OK, alas not any more. There have been minor problems in the past, but they were promptly resolved and messages were replied to. Not any more. Errors all the time, no replies to messages and no updates. Sorry to say but this app should be avoided.

Purchased this app to sync with my iCloud contacts but it would not accept my iCloud ID and password. It failed at the first hurdle! I am using Android 9 so perhaps that is the reason.

The app won't sync with my Nexus 6p since last week, please check. Had been working very good from start.

Works perfect have been using for years. I think most people don't realise they need to create app specific password's in iCloud first.

Avoid this buggy app. Support does not respond. Later I installed Smoothsync for Yahoo, doesn't work, they promised Refund and never did it.

gives access to icloud contacts, but smooth is something different, anddoes NOT sync them with the google adressbook

Yvo. C. Aug 8, 2019

Needs updating to latest Android version but does still work, have to go to Apple ID to get password to sign in to your iCloud account.

Unfortunately, after several attempts, I failed to access iCloud from Android. Refund requested.

Doesn't work if you have two factor security on your apple account. You'd be mad to turn that off.

Doesn't work. I didn't have 2 factor auth but still didn't login

Having an iphone an ipad and a galaxy note 3 and google apps accounts, I have been trying to figure out the best solution to sync contracts across accounts. sync with google contacts unfortunately do not sync properly the contact pictures, so the best solution for me is to use icloud and this app to keep everything in sync. This is the only practical solution I have found, good job

A great app, does just what it says, quickly synchronizes your Android apps to the cloud or other sources. The best part is I was able to completely ditch HTC Sync Manager for my HTC One, a slow and balky piece of software that is not predictably reliable and doesn't properly sync calendars or contacts. All problems solved with this and SmoothSync for Calendar. I have not encountered the HTC bug they mention about creating a new contact in a 3rd party editor.

App was working great until a week or two ago on Android 4.3 on my Galaxy S4. I do have the workaround installed, it syncs without reporting an error; the contacts, however, do not show up in my address book. The Calendar Sync app seems to still work without any issues. Please help!

I had some issues with the app that were entirely my own fault. An email to the developer Marten was sent and within 24 hours he had responded with some ideas and solutions. This app is a godsend for those not sure about making the switch from iOS to android. Well worth every penny and I am proud to be a part of the Android community. Thanks so much!!

This app just stopped working one day. I made the false assumption that it was the app. It's Apple. The developer suggests: login to icloud, turn on 2 factor authentication and create an app specific password. Use this pw with smooth contact. It took about a day before the synce started again, but now it works (until Apple makes another unpublished change).

After trying for hours to find a free solution that didn't take an hour to do (or worked for that matter), I downloaded this app, logged into iCloud, and my contacts were instantly synced. I recommend this for anyone that is looking for a simple and easy way to transfer contacts from their iPhone. Thanks dev!

This app does exactly what it's supposed to do which seems to be few and far between now adays. When it comes to contacts each and every one is very important, so the last thing you need to have lackluster accessibility between two platforms especially in the business world.

This app does everything right but its just not working correctly on the Xperia Z1. I can't open the sync'd Contacts in the "Contacts" app. I get the message "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped". I can still send text messages to those contacts through the messanger app. One of the contacts (without a pic) works, the others don't. Googled the issue and I found one other person has also written a very similar thing, so I'm guessing it may just be a bug with the Z1 :(

Stu. M. Sep 22, 2016

I turned on 2 factor authentication on my Mac and after that this app wouldn't sync. Ended up turning it off instead of going through work-arounds. This and the calendar app are the best if you use Android and iOS/macOS.

Phi. F. May 28, 2015

The contact editor no longer is able to apply photos to a contact from the phone. Would like to see it fixed. -Occasionally has connection issues. Uses more battery than I would like, in all reality, but it's kind of a necessity for me, so I can sacrifice that.

I was using a Sony Xperia Z and the App worked well and synced my iCloud contacts to the android phone without problem. When I change to a Sony Xperia Z1 recently, I installed the App and did the sync process, a message "Unfortunately, contacts has stopped" appears when I click on most of the contact names except a few. The screen goes back to the phone's screen where Contacts icon resides. I tried resetting the phone to Factory Reset and redid the whole process again, but the same result occurred again. Is there a solution to this problem? (PS, Z1 android version is 4.2.2)

I've used the iPhone for years and took advantage of iCloud for contacts. When switching to Android I was worried that I'd have to enter hundreds of contacts into the phone by hand. Not so...this app performs flawlessly. Now I have all 400+ contacts back on my phone and have no worries about losing them again. Great job Developers.
