This is a great port of the original game, but it has a really bad screen scaling issue on newer phones. It's completely unplayable using the default settings. You can get it to work if you allow the app to go full screen in the system's settings (settings - display - full screen apps), but it still doesn't fill the screen correctly and is slightly stretched. SEGA really should update it to fix this issue.
FOR THOSE WITH SCREEN RESOLUTION PROBLEMS: Many of the reviews here mention that the screen looks awful on the full version. I found a quick fix! I use a galaxy s20, so this might not work for everyone. Find the display settings in your phone (settings > display). Find an option called "fullscreen apps." Find the sonic 2 app on the list and make sure the button next to it is on. That's it! It should work properly now. This port of the game is incredible, so I hope this helps more people play!
Great game! Port is excellent, this the best version of the game. It has a zone that was cut during development of the original, which is really cool (it also means that annoying pit is gone!). One of my favourite games of all time, will keep you occupied for years. Very high quality, highly recommended!
Bought the full version to play with no ads. Bought a controller so i can play accurately without touch screen controls. Game will not rotate at all so that my controller makes up up and down down. Tried everything i can think of but the screen will not rotate with the phone like everyother game i have. Can we get a quick fix to this plz?
This must be a joke really. The Ad-version runs better. This one runs blasting fast, like, we know Sonic is fast but not THAT fast. Plus it's not automatically on full screen (must modify this on phone settings).
Paid version is unplayable on Galaxy S10 I've bought the game a while back before it went F2P and it worked fine on my older devices. I've upgraded to a newer device. The AD supported version works fine, but when I request the ad-free version (since, you know, I gave actual money for it) it directs me to this version that runs horribly on my Galaxy S10. The resolution is extremely messed up and overstretched and you literally can't play the game. Please update the game.
Was excited and reserved with this app. The idea of having my first video game on my first console on my phone had to be too good to be true. Was not only as good as when I was 6, but the addition of save files only makes this pillar of Sega better. Christian Whitehead is not only a friend to pixels and polys alike, but also a friend to Millennials and Sonic fans alike. Need to download and try.
I know this version of the game is decently old now but it isn't optimized for my LG G7 One which leads to 1/3 of the screen being black which makes the game not very comfortable to play. Is there any way to make an update to be optimized for newer phones? I know the newer version of the app is optimized for newer phones but I don't want to pay twice for the same game I bought years ago. So either make restoring a previous purchase give you the new app with no ads for free or update this version
I have been playing this game since I was 4 years old. It was my very first videogame and is still to this day one of my all time favorites. I've played the original cartridge on Genesis, various ports on pc and several consoles. Even emulated it on a psp. And I can say that this version is without a doubt, the absolute best version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 I have ever played. My only complaint is that I can't buy it on console or pc. It works on newer devices like my Galaxy S10, but the ad version is better and fits the screen. It desperately needs to be updated for newer systems, it hasn't been updated for 5 years.
The game is as amazing as I remember on console.. even better with the game running at 60 frames but when I pick multiplayer and it's about to start, the game crashes.

forced 16:9 on 21:9 device. ad-supported version has more features and is updated, unlike this build of the game. otherwise this is still a great game.
Doesn't work properly on newer phones, resolution keeps messing up. Don't buy unless you have an older phone with an older version of android.
Paid for the game - free version works fine on s10 but the version i paid for performs awfully: does not fit the screen and in poor resolution. Please rectify this
Very good just my phone has two black bars at the side when i play this version while the free is full screen any way to fix this
Sounds and looks good, however inputs are delayed and sound is horribly delayed. Aspect ratio on my Pixel 5 is absolute trash.
Games is great but gamepad is a must to enjoy this game! just use a bluetooth xbox controller to enjoy the game!
75% of the time game starts up zoomed in making it impossible to play. Please fix for a five star.

I have paid for sonic 1 and 2 but when I go to " restore purchase" on sonic 1 it brings me here.
Resolution makes the game unplayable on my Galaxy Note 10+. Been like this for ages.

I can download and run the ad supported version of this app without issues but when I go to restore purchase and download the paid version it says the app for is an older phone and may not run correctly. What actually happens is the screen becomes stretched and distorted rendering certain options unusable and making the game essentially unplayable. A pity because because I've played this game hundreds of times on various consoles and devices ever since it first came out.
