It's great to see a classic like this one made mobile. That said, the game was fricking hard back in the day with D-pads where you could feel where your thumb was aiming. It's crazy-hard with a virtual D-pad. I couldn't get past Level 2 boss trying to jump and hit him while also dodging falling floor into the watery abyss... If you thought you were pro back then, prepare for a rude awakening w/ mobile version. Can't imagine defeating final boss at all with these controls. Otherwise.. awesome.

As a long time fan of the series, and especially the classic games, this does justice to the original while also adding some details that give this a very modern tough. Example: it keeps everything that's great about the original, but the games aspect ratio is updated to fit most modern mobile devices. It also provides options that would've only been available to those that had extra peripherals for their Sega Genesis. Adding Knuckles in this game is a great addition!

Again like the first game and CD, it's great to play the original games on mobile, but of course this game has SOME flaws, and those flaws come from the special stages. I haven't played the whole game but what is stopping me is playing the special stages to get the good ending first try. The controls aren't the best and when turning its either too slow or too fast, and playing with tails is just annoying . Its a great game, but special stages need to be fixed to help maneuver with the speed.

Its really good game, but i will give 3 stars, while my brother was playing on my phone, when is second stage, after a few minutes, the music just change... And the music is so scary and i heard it too.. but when we restart the app and then we open the app again and play, then... Nothing happens, and the music didn't... Change,.. i don't know if this is a bug, but, please fix it.. And there is too many adds on it..

Love this game! Exactly how I remember it. Only problem is it keeps crashing and I can not complete the current level I'm on. It also resets the level so its always starting back to square 1 even after hitting a checkpoint. Please fix this and I definitely will up my rating

Classic game if meant to be played single player. Its awesome to being it to mobile. However, i find the joy of the 2p versus. As fun as it is, it is a big upset as well. Network stability between players is unreliable. You finish 1 stage in lets say a 3 stage game, you play one game and find out the game connection was lost. Please fix the 2p versus mode. I will gladly give 5 stars when it becomes more stable.

An excellent remake of the original game! I'm quite the stunned it plays so well on Mobile devices. It contains a lot of content for you to enjoy, including Knuckles in Sonic 2 to play off the bat. The ad's aren't that annoying, but if they really bother you than you can get an ad blocker or turn off your Wi-Fi. The gameplay is the same as the original, which still holds up nicely, and the music is still outstanding. Thank you Christian Whitehead and HeadCannon!

It is a really good platforming game, just like the first game of the series. But again, the only major flaw in the Sonic games is that it's hard to balance speed and platforming, since you can't jump over an enemy/obstacle at high speed, because the human reaction is only about a fifth of a second, which makes it almost impossible to react to super fast stuff, and this makes you have to slow down a lot in a game that should be fast. Zoomed out camera improved gameplay quality a lot.

This is overall, an amazing port of Sonic 2. Everything is here, level design, the OST, it's great. However, I have an issue with it. In special stages, the controls are very sloppy and have a very noticeable delay which makes me lose most of them. This would easily get five stars but this issue stopped me having fun.

Faithful to the Genesis/MegaDrive original but with plenty of bonus features and quality of life improvements! By far the definitive official way to play Sonic 2! The only gripe I have is that you have to be online. It makes sense for the free version (so you can't just turn off your WiFi to get rid of ads), but it does not for when you remove the ads. This isn't enough to lower my score though, as this is an issue with the Sega Forever line-up as a whole.

Main problem is the controls. Maybe it's because it's a smartphone surface instead of buttons, but crouching in the right direction to do a spin dash was the most aggravating goddamn chore. Sonic kept turning around, or would step forward instead of crouching. Quit after playing three acts. Timing of some objects is off e.g. the blue gloop traps are faster than in the original game. I recommend only playing the free version to see if you think it's worth putting up with these annoyances. Definitely don't pay for it. I'm uninstalling after this review. Disappointed. Still got my sonic collection on xbox 360. Now that was a good purchase.

This is one of the best Sonic games I've ever played and honestly one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played. There's so much replayability. This version of the game upgrades the framerate and does so really well, but the problem with this version is the controls on touch screen aren't that good on normal stages. The game works way better with a controller. Although the touch screen controls work really well in the special stages, something this version of the game improved on massively.

Pick your poison. If you get the free version, there's annoying pop up ads between levels. Like I can't even pause the game without getting an ad. If you get the paid version, it hasn't been updated since 2015, and won't scale properly when forcing full screen as a result. The controls and everything else work great. Christian Whitehead deserves all the profit earned for this incredible version of the classic Sonic games, but the ads are annoying.

Its Good....For a Chromebook I don't know but this is a fantastic game! when me and my brother got home from school we'd run to our PS2 and boot up Sonic 2 to race each other. But when we saw this in 2019 we were happy we were like "Yes! Now we can play it on the go!" but once the ads started kicking in we went back to the PS2's version because it had no ads. but either way this is good and I wouldn't want to pay 1.99 for getting rid of the ads. SEGA please get rid of these ads so i can play.

I love this game it's one of my favorite games. my only problem is using the debug mode pretty much every time I use it it just ends up pausing the game and then using it. I understand that you have a choice between ad support and no ads but literally every time I pause or exit the is always an ad. The rest of the game is fine it's just that theres way too many ads

Dem. K. May 28, 2021

Besides the ads, I genuinely can't think of a single negative aspect about this port. It controls extremely well for mobile standards, it has a save feature and multiple save files, it's in wide screen and improved the special stages, there's multiple options for how to play, the added modes are neat, and I mean... Come on! It's Sonic The freakin' Hedgehog 2! If you like old school games but don't have the consoles to play, this game and the port of the first game are easy recommendations.

I don't get what some people are saying, the controls are as good as it gets for a touchscreen interface. I managed to beat the game with the touchscreen controls without any problems. Tip, do not hold your thumb down on the movement control, just tap the right side of the stick to go right, and tap the left side of it to go left. It's that easy. Also, use a Bluetooth controller that also holds your phone in place for the best experience. Very polished game

It's pretty good(well, for a game made by Sega, anyways). Just a few things. One: the special stages seem too slippery. Two: perhaps you could add more abilities(for example, maybe the drop dash? That would be very nice.) Three: maybe just a few less ads. Sure it's the free version, meaning it would have ads, but GEEZ! It doesn't need this many!

Blu. T. D. May 1, 2021

This is a good port of the original genesis classic... But I have somd issues. The controls are fine, and the game is fantastic... But the versus mode doesn't work at all! If you make a room and start it, you'll just be stuck on a black screen while the same 11 notes play. Last time versus mode was implemented, it worked perfectly, even though it was WIFI only. It's a good game, but you'll only get 4 stars when you fix this problem.

Honestly this game is really awesome. It's a cool way to play sonic on the go. Sure, there might be ads from time to time but that doesn't affect how fun this game is. The only problem with it is the fact that the move button is a joystick. It would be a lot better if the move button was swapped with a D-pad instead since D-pads are more for 2D games and Joysticks for 3D. Other than that I have nothing else to say. Would 100% reccomend you give it a go

This is a great port of sonic 2. It might even be the best version of sonic 2! The only downside is you have to play it online or pay to play it offline, though I understand because they worked hard on this port. I love how accurate they made the game to the original version and improved in other parts like wide screen and the special stages. If you have the money you can have the definitive version of sonic 2!

A. G. u. Dec 7, 2019

I love Sonic 2, but I don't love this iteration for one reason: the control. The touch screen interface is no substitute for a d-pad and buttons. The levels demand precision, something that simulated buttons on a touchscreen can't provide. It's a shame, since I like other aspects of this version of Sonic 2 like the new modes, the addition of Knuckles as a playable character, and the reimplementation of cut content not in the Sega Genesis version. I hope this version comes to consoles and PC.

A. G. u. Dec 26, 2018

There is an annoying and frequent bug regarding the touch controls. If an input is held, then another input is held, then the first input is released, the second input will also be released. This bug prevents touchscreen gameplay as Tails as trying to readjust during a jump will release then re-engage the jump input, causing Tails to start flying which can cause him to fly into an enemy or boss, resulting in ring loss. It also impacts other characters to a lesser extent. Please fix if possible.

Ian. D. Jun 18, 2020

An excellent port of the console version! The four save slots, the option to play as Knuckles and having access to Tails' flying ability are a nice addition. My only complaint is that every time I beat the final boss (and I've played as all three characters) the game automatically quits. Yeah my progress is still saved but it would have been nice to see the final cutscene and the end credits. Still worth 5 stars.

This port breaks one of the late game bosses; a laser moving side to side attached to a ceiling. You have to stand on the side of the room with the most space to avoid it. Even if you stand on the far side the laser often comes to hit you (it should stop firing but doesn't), making it impossible to avoid. Been a while since I played the original, but there's also some weird physics bugs like falling through some yellow spring pads attached to a wall that I don't recall happening originally.
