Great presentation. I love the high resolution, the widescreen aspect ratio (that fills up my entire Galaxy S22 Ultra display!), the quality of life improvements (including saves and spin dash) and the extras (including Tails and Knuckles as playable characters). Just beware that if you have a 120 Hz display with adaptive refresh, you might notice some stutter. I switched to 60 Hz, and now the game runs smooth as butter.

For a simple mobile port (free) it's very good and a good way to the kids know our (much much older "kids") good old game, it has all the limitations of the touch controls, and I don't test with a real controller, but for a 0 cost and effort it's a very good one, thanks SEGA. (PS: the 1st connection needs internet access. :-/ | Note: please take in consideration that I don't see ads)

The game is good overall, the wide-screen helps with reacting to enemies. The touch controls are far better than I could imagine (you just have to get used to them.) The ads are a bit "over the top" but I've been using this app ever since 2018 so it doesn't bother me like it used too, but I mean every time you pause you get an ad, so thats the only thing that irritates me. But yeah all fun and all good, this is a good way to play sonic 1.

I did another review on this with the underwater section, but I'm doing another for the whole game. Its fun, but I think there are some things that could of been fixed or changed from the original release. The controls take a while to get used to, special stages are hard and confusing and takes a WHILE to beat and learn, some levels are confusing at first and still are. Fun game, recommend, but only if you are up to the challenge of the controls, or have played the original release. 4/5 stars

I think this is a solid port of Sonic 1. In fact, I might even call this the best port of sonic 1, but that might change once Sonic Origins eventually releases. I really like the new additions, like widescreen and new characters. But I do have some minor problems, like blurry pixels and bugs. But they dont bother me too much and it's not like they're gonna bother fixing an old port of their old games. So in summary, I really like this port.

Touch screen makes this game unplayable. It's a game all about timing and it just doesn't work. However I connected my ps4 controller and it works great. Also ads aren't as bad as a few other games. You get to play through a few acts before an ad pops up. If you're in the mood for some sonic and have a controller then give this a try.

I have a few issues with this, the 2013 version of Sonic 1. First, the ridiculous amount of ads, including the one when you unpause makes it feel like pausing punishes you. And no, I'm not gonna pay to remove them. Second, the whole 3-2-1 thing after unpausing is something admittedly common in mobile games, but I still don't like it. Third, internet is required. Fourth, restarting a level costs a life, but I can only think of a single Sonic game where that isn't the case.

A really fun remake of the original the only thing the only problem I have with it is when in debug mode u have to touch the left side of the screen to activate or deactivate it. And for some reason the game thinks I've pressed the pause button and it well pauses could u please fix this. Otherwise a really fun game.

i've only played the free version for like 20 minutes since i downloaded and i have to say it: the ads are not that annoying as i thought they will be. Now the for controls, personally, i prefer a controller than the touch screen, there have been noumerous times that i lose control of sonic and is going to take me some time to get used to it. Overall the features of this version are phenomenal and i would recommend to give it a try.

Anything you'd ever want out of a Sonic 1 port. Widescreen, remastered music, an option to use the spindash from the second game, and even little details like 3D models of the game's box and cartridge, with an option to change the artwork featured on them. The only gripe I have with it is just the game itself, it can get tedious at times, but I don't really want to take that into account for my rating, since it isn't really the developers' fault here. Would strongly recommend this to Sonic fans.

Faithful to the Genesis/MegaDrive original but with plenty of bonus features and quality of life improvements! By far the definitive official way to play Sonic 1! The only gripe I have is that you have to be online. It makes sense for the free version (so you can't just turn off your WiFi to get rid of ads), but it does not for when you remove the ads. This isn't enough to lower my score though, as this is an issue with the Sega Forever line-up as a whole.

The Classic Sonic game we've all been waiting for. except, it's on mobile!!!! I love this game because 1, its sonic (who doesn't love sonic??!) and 2, the gameplays amazing, the graphics are the 16 bit type thing, and it's super simple to control. However, there is a problem with the ads. not a big one, but definitely a problem. all in all I would recommend this game to everyone.

Great game, controls could be a little bigger, but other than that a lot of fun. I'm currently stuck however in Spring Zone level 3, I think due to a bug. After you defeat Eggman, when you jump on the cage to release all the little guys, the game takes over and runs sonic off. In my case, he dies, and you are forced to go back and re-defeat eggman, minus a life. , and this keeps looping (trust me, i know, i burned a "continue", which I'm bummed about haha. other than that... lots of fun!!

I am really thankful that Sega took the time to re-releashe such a game and for free. Not because it is great, far from that, but because it is fantastic to be able to expirience the classics of the industry and learn from them. My only disappointment is from the controls. Again not because of the decision to always "jump" when the button is pressed even if you hold the "down". This results to be able to spin only if you have absolutely no speed.

This is the perfect moible port for a game like that. I'm fine with the ads and the controls. And the cool part, you can skip the ads. Yeah, you heard me, SKIP. And I really like the main menu, it looks cool. And I never played the first sonic before, AND THIS IS PERFECT! The best part are save files. Once I got a game over, it took me back to the menu, and then, I saw the first save file tell where I left off, Marble Zone Act 1. In the genisis version, it just restarts the whole game. Good job

It took me a while to "get" classic Sonic, but once I learned the controls and level layout the game became brilliant, I've finished it 3 times and I'd still go back for more. The amount of ads is a little intrusive and having to pay to remove them can feel scummy, but I'd also say the price itself was very low considering what I got for it. Definitely excited to give Sonic 2 a try now!

The actual game is quite a faithful remake. Same amazing music, colourful levels and masterful game design. However, the game feels laggy and unresponsive sometimes, failing to detect button inputs and generally feeling sluggish. Not what you want in a game about going fast. Also it's just peppered with ads. Even worse, they're where the buttons would be in actual gameplay, so if you accidentally pause you're guaranteed to waste thirty seconds closing out of an ad that refuses to leave. Sega, get it together.

What an absolutely fantastic remake of one of the greatest games of all time! Loving the opportunity to play as Tails and Knuckles and getting a reward for getting all Chaos Emeralds to be Super Sonic, rather than just getting a slightly different ending like the original game. Smoother graphics, bug fixes, save data... can't get any better than that. Thank you very much for reviving this game after almost 30 years!

I'm not having the ad issues some are describing; I get one ad, it clears, I continue playing. The controls can be frustrating. Since there are no physical buttons I find myself having to look down to see where the buttons are on the screen from time to time. Graphics and sound are exactly as I remember and the game flow is nice and smooth.

Mik. M. Jan 11, 2020

This is the original older gamers will remember fondly. A true port without overbearing ad support and an option (which I haven't tried yet) to pay to remove them. It also seamlessly supports Bluetooth controllers as I have been playing with an Xbox 1 controller. Touch controls are a bit sensitive, but in time I'm sure you could adjust. If you're looking to relive the glory days of Sonic, this is the game for you. Only wish I could remove the on screen controls when using my controller.

I love playing this! The controles are simple once you understand them, the gameplay is magnifacent and I can play a game I would never have had the chance to in this modern era! The way you've made this game come to life on moblie is way-past-cool! One possible update is making the Spacebar the jump button on Computers, as I can't seem to find which key it is, so i'm often clicking... Which is fine and all, but I find that this can get tiresome quite quickly. But overall, this is really good!!!

Good idea to bring the game to mobile. I loved the game when I was younger, but I can't play this. The game wasn't designed to be played using a joystick-like control. It needs individual buttons for directions like a keyboard has. With the current controls, Sonic's movement and abilities are difficult to control and I keep constantly inadvertently moving my finger too low, causing Sonic to roll, or making Sonic roll when I try to turn around.
