Sound Bar Controller

I just bought a 209 which is a fine 2.1 sound bar. Followed directions and installed the app and updates. All seemed fine until I tried to open the app again... I'm sure everyone including yamaha knows it no longer finds the sound bar. Like others here I may return the whole works if a large part of its functionality remains unusable. I have several weeks to decide and I'll take my time. I only wish I had known prior to purchasing. I would have chosen another.

This app is just trash. Everytime I open it it never recognize the sound bar and ask me tonreset upbthe sound bar. Have double checked, have the right internet. Have uninstalled and reinstalled, nothing. Unplug sounds bar. Same issue. Factory reset and nothing. I have looked all over the internet and nothing. I would love to use this app instead of getting up everytime I need to change the sound. I'll have to buy another remote (first one I had broke). Sound bar great, the app is not.

Useless app!! If I could give -1, I would! Works for a short while then the app can't find soundbar. The app can't find soundbar. However, WiFi is on and there is sound coming out. Just can't make any adjustments in the app without uninstalling and reinstalling. Seriously Yamaha. Very disappointing. Thought you were better than this.

This is a joke. This app looks like it was created 10 years ago and never updated. The Soundbar control should be top front with all the functions on one screen, not limited controls that are separated in different menus. Also, volume percentage is a must because Yamaha soundbars doesn't have a screen or OSD!!!! It's really hard to work with the bars when you have to learn what every LED confusion blinking means. Plus, there is no any support for smart home hubs like Google home / SmartThings...

Alexa doesn't work. it used to but now it doesn't. I also used to just control the volume from Spotify while listening to music but now I have to go into the app after connecting Spotify. just an extra step that is super inconvenient. all these things used to not be a problem.

Update. After resetting wifi router a number of time I now have a stable connection and love the speaker. Would be nice if other sources were available besides Spotify and Amazon music (Sirius) without using BT. I had the same experience as many others. It is connected to my network, but the app says it isn't, wrong password, blah, blah, blah, thus the app is totally useless.

I have an LG TV and this sound bar only turns on with the TV sometimes. I often need to use the app to turn it on, or do it manually. it also frequently stops working. about once a week or two weeks, it won't work or respond. I need to unplug and reset it. its a nice sound, but too much of a pain to be worth it.

Another app update which ruined it. It was a really good app until the update. The unit will lose the blue tooth attachment and not allow it to be reattached until the power to the sound bar is interrupted. Dumb quirk I am sure could be fixed if they were interested.

98% failure to connect even when the phone is in front of the sound bar. Whether it's a glitch or not, horrible experience. issue persist for days on end before it will connect.

Absolutely trash. Can't find sound bar, volume control doesn't work, buffers then drops out e.t.c app never even gets updated. If you cant create something competent that works then do something else.

This is a reliable and affordable solution for anyone who is looking for a sound that's impressively soothing for years. Well done Yamaha, I'm your more than a fan of you. In addition, this App is smooth, simple and user-friendly. Alexa, is another unique package with my Yamaha 209 soundbar.

Could be better - useful alternative to yet another remote, but it would be really helpful to have customisable preset sound options! Changing frequently between a games console & TV shows is otherwise a fiddly process involving lots of steps...

This app has issues with the connect as the app stops and you have to open up the app again and press play. It will try starting by it self on another song sometimes. Also it has issues connecting with 5g wifi so you have to make it connect on the 2g. Updated app and firmware, same issue exist.

The soundbar and mobile often fail to see eachother. It is really difficult to make contact. Works fine when it connects.

Alexa doesn't work unless I hard wire an Ethernet cable to it. The sound is great, the app and wifi connection is garbage. I expect better.

I find the volume control could have smaller increments. Besides that, good app. Much easier to use than the cheap remote it came with.

Please redesign your app and take courses on Human-Computer Interface. There's no reasons for an entire screen to have only one function and for multiple functions to be separated into multiple screens. To turn on-off the Sound Bar, adjust the volume, and change the settings for movies/TV/clear voice etc, I shouldn't have to navigate through multiple screens to do that. Minimise the number of clicks and simplify the process. Also, once I set HDMI as the source, it should remember this option.

Works well once connected. Hope this may help someone in the future. Tried setup and could never find the sound bar. Here is what I did. For WiFi setup I pressed the Alexa button and made it flash even though it was already flashing. Found the sound bar right away. Had trouble with the 5G bands, lost connection, with two different routers. Connected fine to the 2G. Ethernet connection was flawless. Found it right away. Hope this helps someone else. Hopefully the developers can find the bug.

1 star is too good for this app it is not fit for purpose. Unlike many I actually managed to connect to my soundbar. For a short time. A few days later it can't connect, on the rare occasion I can get it to actually find the soundbar it says WiFi password is incorrect (it isn't). I spent 2 hrs the other day trying to find a solution, there is barely anything online and the most helpful solutions are here in the reviews. The app when working is poor with far too many pages to function well.

Ricidulous! I've already added my YAS-209 to my Bluetooth connections. This app keeps asking me to add it. Even though it's added and connected to Bluetooth this app can't find it for some unknown reason. This is such basic programming. How can Yamaha fail at such a basic task. If they provide some guidance perhaps I'll actually be able to fully rate the app. As it stands, I can't even access the rest of the app because it thinks my soundbar isn't connected. There should be a way around this.

Finally the app connects to my WiFi without any issues, but the functionality of the app isn't great, having to to into multiple screens to change the audio settings. One thing l would like to see is predefined settings for films where it sets surround sound on, bass to a set level or tv, no surround sound etc. 2 months after my last review and the the app keeps dropping connection to the soundbar, it seems as if Yamaha are not interested in supporting their customers.....

Fantastic enjoy watching TV while not disturbing others trying to sleep in the room behind TV as sound travels forward and I can enjoy it being louder so I can clearly hear it

Lot of people were complaining about the SB not connecting to WiFi. Maybe due to more than one reason. I feel the easy way out is to reset the SB to factory settings. To do that,turn off the SB to standby, hold down the volume up button & power button on the SB for a few seconds till all the LED on the unit glows, & then resume installation from start. Overall the app could be made more user friendly.

it is great. the sound and the simpleness of using it on your smart phone the clarity and so much more .

when it works its great but when there is a software update it just stops working but doesn't alert you so you spend time trying to fix it before you remember to check

Worked fine when it worked, but randomly will not find soundbar and you have to troubleshoot forever to fix it. Trying to control it using the actual soundbar controls requires a Morse code like strobing of multiple flashing lights and turning it on and off...overall makes it a horrible experience. Just get used to the app telling you "searching for your Yamaha soundbar" and never finding it.

Really like this app, but lacking in a few areas. Everything the app can already do works great and bug free. My suggestion to make this even better would to allow presets for audio types. So say spotify, music mode and clear voice off and base ext on etc. Then hdmi/tv can have its own presets. Would make this super amazing and useful.

Can't find soundbar. Can't add it because "wifi password is incorrect". Funny I can connect all my other devices just fine. After many attempts failed attempts I can get it to link up long enough to update, then it disappears again the next day. Sound bar is great. App is garbage.

The app doesn't connect the bar to my phone. Tried many times but it always fails. It shows WiFi password is wrong even when I enter the correct password. If I try connecting my phone to the bar's WiFi, it fails everytime. It's so frustrating that in 2021 I have to deal with this app that can't even connect devices.
