Blacklist and Whitelist
Using SpamHound as your default messaging app you have reliable protection from undesired incoming content. Create spam filtering rules in Blacklist to block messages from certain senders or those, that contain specific words, phrases or digits. All messages that fly under the Blacklist rules are stored in the Spam tab.
Prevent blocking of important content in Whitelist, which prioritizes the messages that comply with its rules so that they don’t get filtered out. You will never lose precious mail as all SMS from the Whitelist displayed in your inbox.
Spam filtering
For more fine-tuning filtering of your rules, you can apply Contains, Starts with, Ends with, Equals modes to the sender, and body of messages. Extended options as regular expressions and wildcard are also available to use.
Check the statistics of rules worked and messages filtered by week, month and year. As well, besides creating rules manually, activate predefined rules in the Settings tab to block SMS from short numbers and those that contain links.

I have been using this app since before the 2020 election. It was very effective in filtering text spam (political is the worse), although it took a while to develop the filter rules. I discovered it would not send photos or other attachments, but I could send them by temporarily switching to another text app. I recently realized it had been updated to send photos (yay!) but somehow it has lost the ability to notify me when texts arrive. I have been all through the app settings and system settings and can find nothing that restores this essential ability. Samsung S9+ Android 10.
Does exactly what I need it to do. I kept getting spam texts from emails and there was no way to block them before I got this app. I just added the rule and like magic the spam stopped coming to my inbox. They do however go to a spam folder but that is fine. [UPDATE] I can't send picture messages. This is a big drawback because I send a lot of picture messages!!!
An awesome app, does what it claims. Set your Blacklist rules, then enable the option "Automatically delete Spam" in Settings and never worry about rubbish SMS messages anymore :)
This is only best SMS spam filter app that doesn't show ads. But the cons is I can't delete multiple messages inside a conversation. I can only delete one by one.
Does the job for filtering spam but also prevents any group chat or multimedia message from coming through even if o add the contacts to my "white"/"ok" list. I missed out on many important texts from my employer because of this. I ended up having to delete it
I've been getting a lot of spam messages: about a package delivery, with a different sender number every time. So I couldn't block the sender. SpamHound solves this problem for me. Just create a wildcard filter with '*package*http*' and it blocks them all! Love the regex filter - a very powerful way to match anything a spammer can think of. I wish I had the ability to create a filter that applies a label to a message, so I could automatically organise all my messages.
Works well so far. I haven't had any scam SMS since I installed it. However, the downside is that you don't get notifications of when you receive SMS texts from friends and family. Some improvements are needed for the notification side of things.
Very effective at blocking spam, but desperately needs an option to whitelist all contacts. Currently can only enter up to 10 phone numbers per whitelist rule, which then only shows the number and not contact name. Also looking forward to an update allowing responses to group messages.
The app worked at first but now I can't send or receive messages! I can't get help with the problem so, I'm deleting the program. May try it again if issues can be addresses but for now, I will uninstall!
Every 15 seconds a notification pops up that says "Spamhound is running. Tap for more information." What a nightmare.

Blocks spam but doesn't send you a notification you got a text. I checked in settings and all notification options were toggled on. Deleted and reinstalled but still doesn't work. App is completely silent. So I'm now looking for a new text app.
Suddenly spamhound closed unexpectedly everytime i click on the plus sign below to create new messages, xiaomi's security built-in application is blocking spamhound from using mobile signal
Thank y so much for creating this app! For the last nine months, I have been barbated w/ unlisted spams text. So after reading, searching & downloading an exhausting list of apps I may have just accidentally, stumbled on the ONE APP THAT DOES STOP MY UNWATED SPAM TEXT!
No more political spam bombardment in my SMS from unwanted spammers and donation bots. Gets rid of random numbers sending "Trump/Biden spam" by blocking key words and phrases in SMS for you such as "governor, president, senator, senate, democrat, republican, etc." so it ends up in a spam folder and doesnt blow your phone up when received. Staff updated the app recently and it takes photos but an issue is: if I try to send images over the app I get "Not Sent" regardless / file size GalaxyS20Ultra
I have over 50 - 100 spam and I'm tired of trying to get rid of them because there is no way to put my contacts in the whitelist to allow them to text me, but I'm so overwhelmed with way too much spam. Why can't it automatically put everything that is spam in the blacklist because my arm hurts.
Apps like this (and KeyMessages) frustrate me so much. They do a great job filtering out junk text (which I desperately need. I get 10 per day). But, your app is not a messaging app if you can't do basic stuff (like attaching pictures). As a result, I have no choice but to change my phone number and start anew because there is no workable solution out there. If you don’t have the resources to compete with the "big guys", change the game. I think this app should be changed to run IN ADDITION to other messaging apps. Let the big guys be the "default messaging app". This app should require access to messages but not require default messaging app. This app could then run behind the scenes and filter junk texts and do what it does best. I would pay for this functionality. This app is really 1 star but I am giving 3 stars because you have the potential to be 5 stars with small changes.
Beautiful blacklist feature catches all my SMS spam! I love it. There are shortcomings like inability to send pictures and gifs but I keep my other message program right next to it and when I need to use that feature I switch to it, send my picture, then switch back. Switching back & forth takes, literally, 1 second each time so it's not an inconvenience. Thank you for this great program.
First. Spam filtering works great! Best sms and mms spam filterer out there that i've found. Unfortunately the rest of the app is missing key functionality. I experienced simple issues like: not being able to attach a photo to a message, having to tap download for specific contacts for a separate group message chain, replying to group messages sends an individual message to everyone and destroys the group message, lack of customer support as it has been a full month without any reply to my email
One Star because it seems the app no longer has support. I've been trying to contact the developer to figure out how to attach files to outgoing messages. It does a good job filtering but needs some minor enhancements there too. 4/8/20 changed rating from 1 to 3 since Redwerks finally replied. If much needed improvements are made, I will rate higher. 9/16/20 Tried app again. Still no way to attach photos. No response from support!!!! Google Play should remove app.
Nice filter, works great filtering spam using keys words. One big problem...it still dings when a spam message comes in and I can't figure out how to turn off notifications without turning off all texts completely. Isn't that the whole point? Also can't send pictures, but can receive. If I could figure out the dings this would be great
This is a good app so far. Clean UI and easy to use. I was SMS bombed, so I received, best that I can tell, about 15,000 SMS messages because someone signed me up for thousands of sites using my phone number. A lot of them came from 1+ 410 numbers, so I can blacklist those with this app. The thing I haven't been able to do is clean up my inbox without touching every message. I wish there was a 'select all' option when you filter messages so I could just delete all of the 1+ 410 messages. Addition: I was able to categorize all of the spam and get it out of my inbox, now I just need a way to delete all the spam! I have a way to delete spam as it comes in, but I still don't have the filter perfect so some good messages go in there. Great product, I tried about 10 others before this and nothing else came close!
The app works well for blocking spam, but is glitchy in that when responding to group texts, to the receivers, it looks like you've only responded to one individual among the group. Then you have 6 individual people texting you back saying... you only responded to me. I got a new phone since writing this review and it doesn't appear that sound notifications are working now. Using Samsung A52.
Awesome app. The block spam texts with links works great. My only problem with the app is i cannot send photos with it? Please fix this!! Then it will get a 5 star rating😆
Yesterday I received a total scam message with absolutely no alert. Since then, I could send messages, but wasn't receiving. UNINSTALLING!
Rules are unclear - it's great that you can have unlimited rules, but how do you use wildcard or expressions???? Can't send pictures :(
Its okay. But a work in progress. Use a dropdown menu at the top instead of icons. No clue what they do. Also. Should be able to block all numbers except contact list. Also. Filter should be simpler. Enter simple wildcards with * on either side. Thats how Truecaller works. And it blocks every bit of spam sms. Keywords are unnecessary.
You keep displaying popups saying spamhound is working WHILE I'm using it. So annoying!
This has STOPPED spam texts, which were the biggest problem in the middle of the night. My only complaints are that I can not attach a photo to send to anyone, while using this app as the default for my texts, or set a different notification sound for each contact.
Recommended! Does its job well, but notifications are delayed. Been using this app for months now to block SMS spam, which I get weekly here in Israel. The filters do wonders to block spam and allow legit messages through, via the whitelist and blacklist functionality, and they work in Hebrew as well. Overall the app has been great and I commend the developers and am thankful, but there's an issue with notifications being delayed often by minutes. I hope that can be addressed.
