Spectroid

Spectroid is a real-time audio spectrum analyzer with reasonable frequency resolution across the the entire frequency spectrum.
Spectroid uses multiple FFTs overlapped in frequency in order to provide better frequency resolution at lower frequencies than a single FFT. The caveat of this method is varied impulse response and minor discontinuities in the frequency graph. The upside is that it can efficiently produce a frequency graph that better matches the frequency resolution of human audio perception. Even so, it is limited by the Fourier uncertainty principle, while human audio perception is not.

Tested several free apps and this is the best hands down. Refresh is fast. Histogram feature is fantastic so you can see changes over time. Thank you for making this available. If I could request a feature it would be a filter function. I have a low frequency noise that is making it hard to see the singers vocals and would like to isolate them. Even without this is the best app.

Works well, this made it much easier to dial in, and measure distortion/saturation levels for each speaker set my 6ch 1500w rms sound system in the car, I have 2x 12inch subs running on separate bridged channels which were previously hard to power balance. Depends on the frequency response of your mic. (I recommend using an external mic or analog wired headset, because your phones built in microphone and most wireless headsets are designed to filter out non-vocal backgroung audio frequencies.)

Very good application, i use it for the following: Locating annoying sounds (found out keyboard was emitting high pitch sound) Easily determining which damn computer fan has it's bearings bad Satisfying my curiosity in regards to what items/machines make what sounds, be it Doppler effect of cars passing by, what instruments at what frequencies I enjoy hearing and so on. This program can do it all. I particularly like that you can change sample rates and log/linear display.

Frankly, this app helps restore my faith in humanity. Simple. Clean. Elegant, useful. No ads, no popups. I know the author points out he can't calibrate but just for fun, pull up an online tone generator on an adjacent computer and try comparing the results. I'm using this to debug some objectionable noise from some industrial fans. What a nice find. Thanks. Like a few others, I'd love the ability to record an audio clip along with the spectrum analysis. Not a big deal though. Bravo

Looks awesome with certain types of music. Any music with a piano or harmonic type instrument shows up clearly when you use it. Kicks, snares, claps, and hi hats as well, if you know what to look for. Very useful in eyeballing certain melodies of songs if you can't pick which notes are played in your head. Useful and fun. Also note: the quality of the visualization is directly proportional to the microphone quality, distance from sound, and the volume of sound.

Amazing! I downloaded it just to measure the frequency of a struck wine glass. Some other apps have huge bins, so wide that you can't even tell the frequency to within 10%. This one was great, with usable precision right out of the box, and could be improved with settings. I then tried it on a set of wind chimes. They're in E, with the 2, 3, 5, 6, and octave.

This appeared to be exactly what I was looking for for use with HAM radio in the HF band. Even though I gave it 5 stars it does seem to have a deficiency, but perhaps I just haven't figured something out in the audio settings. It needs control over a base signal level to give more contrast between signal and noise (HF bands are noisy). With a low signal to noise ratio it is difficult/impossible to get a clear view of the signal signature. It does provide a waterfall display without connecting up to a PC so it is doing what I want it for. To the developer. Is there a window function and/or other audio settings that will give the ability to tone down noise to get a better contrast?

Thank you! Your app saved me from going nuts on two occasions already. First there were these spots in my house with very low frequency noise, which i didn't even hear at first, i have only noticed being stressed for no reason in those spots. It turned out to be a combination of two fridges and an ac unit doing a weird interference. Next, i had a high pitch, barely audible even by night. It was an LED bulb. I had no idea they can make noise. I was only able to find the sources with this app.

Stop looking through apps, this is the one youre looking for. Period. Great specrum viewer app, I use it on many devices. Works flawlessly on all but the oldest of them(were talking android 2 era devices, so it has a pass). I've been using it for years and I still find neat ways of utilizing it. About the only thing it lacks is a record function, but you can always record the screen or screen cap.

This app is a fun demonstration of an audio algorithm and is very ready to use. I especially like the inclusion of test waveforms. It appears to be reasonably accurate and, as a teaching tool, gives aspiring engineers a quick and easy way to visualize FFTs. The ability to export data and pairing it with an audio recorder would be nice updates. Well done!

Works just as it should, no less, no more. When fighting feedback in a live setting, this is an invaluable tool every sound tech needs. There is no strong reason to use this specific spectrum analyzer, but this one will leve you plenty satisfied as there's nothing it does poorly. There's only so much you can do with a spectrum analyzer, and spectroid does it well enough.

This app is wonderful! I am building tuned struck musical instruments. If you crank up the sample rate & interval, and set the decimation appropriately, it provides the resolution required to tune musical instruments. It is the only spectrum analyzer app I have found so far that can do so. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! You have obviated my need to build a real-time pitch extractor app based on the "poor man's autocorrelator" algorithm.

Literally the best app I have downloaded in a while. I have had a bad history with android apps. They are no where near iOS apps quality. This app is different. It works so well and is perfectly accurate. Everything is perfect. It has everything I would have wanted as well as one more thing. Usually I always have to go and tweak the settings in apps to make them better. This is the first app which I tried so hard to find a setting to change and found nothing

I don't usually bother rating apps, but this is excellent. The ability to zoom to any portion of the chart and see meaningful level of detail even in the low bass region makes it hands down the most useful RTA I've seen. The only request I would make is for an iOS / iPadOS version too! (And maybe, for ultimate fanciness, the addition of IIR/FIR function could allow microphone calibration data, ambient noise exclusion etc, but maybe not, as bloat kills, and right now it's superb!) Thank you!

This app was recommended to me by a friend who also heard "THE HUM" . This app lets you set parameters and can also zoom in on certain frequencies. Works better with use of a microphone. This app is one of the more sensitive ones out there. Like most apps, you have to be play around with the settings. If you don't understand the labeling to say, just look up the words and it will make sense.

I highly suspect the person that made this app simply wants to gift it to the world. Either I'm blind but when I looked around there was no 'rate me' button that I expected to find. I had to go back to the store to write this! The nerve! Anyway, this app auto works without any configuring involved. I was able to check my speaker and phone if indeed those 17khz-20 were actually playing and not bc my ears can't hear them. Simple. Effective.

Best app, I use it for bass music. I like how easy and responsive it is. I look for songs with bass frequencies from 25-35 hz for my subwoofers. I wish it worked with internal audio. That would be great! Thank you for creating such a great app. This brings me back to earlier times when it was all about great apps with no catches. This is one of them. Thank you very much!

Hello! First let me tell you that I love your app and it is very useful for me. I wish to ask you a personal favour which could lead to improve even more the application. 1) please accept input not only by microphone but also from the phone sensors like the accelerometer, the gyroscope and even the compass (if present) the "noise" of the accelerometer (combining the 3 axys on different frequency ranges perhaps) could be very useful to diagnose vibrations, eartquakes or any sort of thing. same goes for all the other sensors. It seems complex but is very easy to read the sensors and just put the sensor reading in an array which is then fed to the FFT routine. 2) the waterfall seems slow... or not much readable, would be better to allow a zoom function like you did with the frequency display above. Alternatevely you can make it dependent on FFT size.. because the smaller that is the more "samples" you get. Thanks for reading.

Awesome app. Only suggestion would be either a way to output the graphs to a file that you can load or picture or the ability to make the line a little bit thicker so it stands out more in screenshots. All of my screenshots the line looks like it's 5 pixels thick and it's hard to see. Also if you did picture or file outputs being able to caption them would be useful for when I do measurements I can know what each one is of.

I've tried just about every spectrograph app that I could find for Android and this is by far the best. I use it all the time, and it really helps me understand the sounds I'm hearing. I love that you can set the floor and the cutoff frequencies. The only thing it needs to be perfect is a way to save the data it captures without needing to take a screenshot.

Max. O. Nov 21, 2021

Perfect. Clean and accurate when compared to an external detector. The interface is simple, nothing intrusive. I cannot interpret all the data because I'm not educated in this field but it serves my purpose and detects the frequencies I'm interested in. Simple interface that lets you expand and focus on a particular range of frequency with many data points. No bugs and doesn't slow my low end phone down. ThanX for the free app.

Fantastic App.👌 Highly Recommend. Sound spectrum in real time showing peak values with waterfall. Very useful to show actual frequency gain when doing room sound sweep measurements. Also just a great visual. To improve I would incude user? defined frequency range when you have 2 or more markers so they don't overlap. 👍
