This is an edited review: The app isn't without merits... But since last I reviewed it, it updated from a one time payment to a subscription model. The result of this change was that it wiped off all my characters and removed all the benefits I had acquired when I first paid for the app. Sadly, in a world where everything wants to be a subscription model I can't justify paying for this when I have D&D Beyond. I will unfortunately not be using the app anymore :(
Really good spell book app, one of the better ones out there in my opinion. Only issues I've had have been, it doesn't have options for loading Racial spells (Tiefling's Infernal Legacy spells for instance) into a class combo that doesn't already have those spells and also allowing College of Lore bard to add in spells from other classes without it changing their spell slots
You can filter the spells by all sorts of things and it's great. Well organized and easy to navigate. Looks nice and has Dark mode. Very good, and the only app I've actually spent money on. I do wish it had more icon symbols for saved characters though.
A useful 5e spell app and has slick UI, but it has it's downsides. I don't mind paying for some features, but to lock all of them behind a subscription model instead is ridiculous. You'll ve better off using DnDbeyond, 5e tools, or other apps instead. Those other apps have their own ad banners, but it doesn't matter to me since the creators of those other apps need some money from sharing free database of spells
This app is awesome! highly recommended. I've cross referenced with multiple spells and word for word they match up with the books ( I own most books ) Great for character building and seeing what's available for your class quickly and easily. Filter works great. The spell slot counter is handy and functional although could use a little work. Keep up the good work and thank you!
Very useful and quick resource for pulling up spells in the moment. Essential for spellcasting players not wanting to slow down gameplay to look up rulings. Also great for easiliy looking through large spell lists to pick spells for a character or npc without having to flip through books or pdfs.
Great and amazing app, really intuitive UI and extensive filter system but I somewhat miss being able to sort by name, the search bar is fine and all but being able to filter and sort by name made things much better however marginal.
The UI is really nice and clean. Has spells from multiple sources, allows you to create specific spell lists for multiple characters. Well worth the price.
No nonsense spell list for 5E. Little to no ads and useful filters that are really useful that help in preparing for any session. No internet required and even with such loading the entire official spell list takes only a few seconds.
Good app, wish i could search for durations. also wish there was an option to disable swiping between a character's prepared, known, and available spells, because while swiping up and down i accidentally swipe to the side a bit and swap from prepared to known spells, and when you swipe back your at the top of the list rather than where you were..
RECENT UPDATE BUG: Since a recent update (not sure which one, but just within the last month), scrolling has become a pain. It seems that only a handful of spells load at a time, resulting in a "wall" at the bottom when scrolling too quickly. This makes scrolling to high level spells very tedious and time consuming. Overall though, this app is perfect. I've got zero complaints other than that, and I'd give 5 stars if it wasn't for the scrolling issue.
This is fantastic. The only issue I have is with the pricing. I dislike subscription models and imo, $40 is a lot to ask for an in-app purchase. While this app is nicely polished and regularly updated, I personally cannot afford such purchases. I do appreciate the ability to purchase the smaller items in a piecemeal fashion (unlimited characters, for example).
Does what it says on the tin. I understand why they have monetisation routes, but they are a bit obnoxious. I would almost rather have a one time purchase to get everything at once. The spell sheet works well on its own, but wasn't great in conjunction with a seperate character sheet app, which is a shame because being able to use just my phone would have been nice. Used alongside a physical character sheet this app is quite a step up from shuffling through the players handbook.
This is hands down the best spell resource I have found. The filter options, the ability to make lists, just great. If a spell applies a condition you even have the condition referenced at the bottom for maximum convenience. I love this app. I would like to see an option, for multiclassing, to be able to see which spell are on class 1's list but are not on class 2's list. For example, say you're artificer+ wizard, and you want to check all of the art spells that the wizard doesn't have.
One of the best (if not the best) spell apps out there! Some points of feedback for possible future improvements: 1. It would be great if you could mix the filter and the search function, searching only within a certain filter. Right now a search always negates the filter and searches all spells. 2. It would be great if there were some more filter options, I'm thinking of the following two: 1. dependent on casting ability or not. (For non full-casters). 2. Range filter, which is added thanks!
Excellent Service. I had purchased this app for use back in 2019. After installing it on a new device I found that I didn't have access to the features that were included with my original purchase. A few short emails back and forth with the Developer and those features have been restored. Fast. Responsive. Great app. Understanding dev. All you could want in a quality app.
This is a great app and a wonderful tool for player and DM alike. The dev team is great, when I couldn't restore my purchase when I switched phones, they got back to me quickly to help solve the problem. It's much better than digging through the books and writing down descriptions and to me even more handy than the spell cards as I can have access all the time and don't have to shuffle cards. Well worth the purchase to allow extra characters. And its got a night mode!!!
This is a must-have for any DnD players who play spellcasting classes. It has all the spells from the expansion books right here for free! I used it for one character for a while and then decided to pay the one-time fee to create unlimited spell lists, and I've never once regretted it. It's easy to use and navigate, and it's perfect for those tense moments in-game when you need to look up your spell effects or compare your healing spells. 10/10, probably saved my party's life!
Has everything you need, and on the off chance it doesn't it's easy to add on. Edit* I've had the app for a while now, about 6 months, and there's been a few great improvements made, one such is adding the conditions on the spell page, so you're able to see everything the spell does on the same screen, brilliant. I do have the premium version, but it is 100% worth the upgrade.
Updated to latest, still broken. This app worked well for a year, so well I paid for the ability to store multiple character's lists. Then the last update turned it into hot garbage, the spell book will not download. And to make things worse I cannot access my stored spell lists. Which I have come to depend on for my cleric and druid characters. I have in installed and reinstalled and it did not fix the problem. It tells me to check my internet connection and try again later. So much garbage!
I originally paid £1.29 to unlock unlimited characters which was great value for money. Now that I'm installing the app on a new device (and my old app purchase no longer seems to work) the price has gone up to £30 for a lifetime sub. Very expensive, especially considering you are just selling someone else's content which is freely available elsewhere. Definatly not worth the new price.
I absolutely love this app. Everything from the easy layout to the ability to easily add spells that don't show up in the class list. I think being able to actually select the characters race so you could instantly have a list of thier racial abilities would make things a little smoother, but the ease of adding spells to a character makes this not a real issue.
My favorite app for DnD spells, and I have tried a lot of them! I love the simplicity of the layout, it's very logically organized and easy to use. One feature I'd love to see is the components listed for all the spells, because I've noticed some spells have them listed but others don't, and I love using that for flavor! I paid to unlock multiple characters but I wish additional features could be unlocked with a single payment rather than a subscription because I probably would do that too. ♥️
An easy to use app with a friendly user interface, and no intrusive ads. Baseline features allow you to have one character spellbook at a time, but the upgrade to unlimited profiles isn't terribly expensive (circa 2019). The app is still actively supported by the developers as of 2022, receiving updates to spell lists when new books come out, as well as bug-fixes and other improvements.
