Spirit1: Real FM Radio

Spirit1 is a real, tuned, "over the air" FM radio app. It is NOT a streaming app which requires expensive data plans and drains your battery.
The focus of Spirit is on AOSP ROMs. If you don't know what AOSP is, Spirit is likely not the app for you, and you should stick with the stock FM app. Further details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50954346&postcount=7641

Satisfaction guaranteed or full refund. Cancel any time on request, within 30 days. To cancel, email [email protected] with at least your name, email of purchase, and/or order ID or email receipt.

If you're an average phone user, & don't know what Android "rooting" is, Spirit will likely not offer you much more than your stock FM app. If your phone does not have a stock FM app, it is unlikely that Spirit will work on it.

Spirit is mostly for Android enthusiasts who "root" & "ROM" their phones. But it also works on many stock, "store bought" phones.

Spirit Unlocked includes:

- Digital audio features supported ONLY on: ROOTED Non-stock AOSP International Galaxy S/S2/S3/Note/Note2/Player, HTC One/OneXL/OneS/Evo 4G LTE/Xperia T and most Sony 2012+ devices.

- RDS data display in App, Lock-screen & Notification window. RT, PS, PTY, PI & AF RadioText RT, Program Service PS, Program Type PTY, Program ID PI & Alternate Frequency AF.

- Lock-screen & Wired Headset Media Button support for mute, preset, seek, volume & record.

- Many settings: Audio, UI, AF, Digital & Debug categories.

- Unlimited Presets & Preset Lists.

! IMPOSSIBLE Devices: ALL Nexus & MANY Samsung & other devices have FM purposely & unfixably disabled in hardware. No app can EVER fix that. Email for refund & explanation of Google's false "compatability" checking. NO FM for GALAXY S4/S5, Note3/Note4, Tab, All US Galaxy S/Note class phones, Motorola flagships, and MANY more

I understand the price may seem high, but this is a niche app with 10,000 hours of work required over 3+ years. How many other "Real FM Radio" apps are on Google Play ? Almost none.

Why ? Because Android FM is extremely difficult. Google doesn't support FM radio and carriers suppress it. Intensive reverse engineering is required. In the over 3 years since Spirit was first created, nobody else has been "crazy" enough to attempt to compete in this niche (OTA radio) within a niche (AOSP ROMs) or without (all phones with usable FM).

Spirit is not a throwaway game app you play for a few days. How many hours will you spend listening to FM radio in the next several years ?

How much can you save on data plans by listening to free, over the air radio versus streaming ?

If you care about app quality, note CNet article "We're not paying enough for apps": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23568502&postcount=2523

I'm one developer and Spirit is my only substantial app and income. I'm trying to do a job Google said they couldn't for lack of developer resources. :)

Your support for Spirit is appreciated.

HTC One M8, rooted, SlimRom build 8.0, KitKat 4.4.4 I tried your Spirit2 apk to test it and just paid almost $10 for Spirit1 (because I could not test it)... Neither output to the speakers, just the headphones. Can this be fixed? If not, I would like to request a refund. The free FM app that comes with most CM-based ROMs output to the speakers just fine so I know it is not my phone. Thank you

I paid the money for this so I could use it at an important event, and when I went to use it, it didn't work at all. Later I saw that it isn't compatible with lollipop. Why didn't they tell me that before so that I could have purchased the app that would actually work for my phone?! Very unhappy about this because I don't usually ever buy apps, and the one time I did, I basically threw my money in the trash.

Google Play says that this app would be compatible with my device, but, even though the app runs great on my VZW HTC One m9, all I get is static. After further internet research, it seems that Verizon Wireless may have totally removed the FM capability of my smartphone, not just disabled it; hence, the static. Any assistance that anyone can offer would be appreciated. I would rather get this working then seek a refund, since the app seems solid and fills an important need.

WExcellent radio on xperia Z1 compact. The tuner is now so sensitive that it often brings in local stations without using headphones as a ntennas. Sound quality better than the Sony standard one supplied One query.... One version allowed me to record. But later updates seem to have removed this.

daer mike. it would be great if you could mention this is not supporte on lilipop on the description. i loast my money buying a software that dosent work and would like to avoid it for other users. i find it a tad bit unprofessional duping us lollipop users.

I didn't find my radio in my brand new non rooted Samsung Galaxy Note 4. I bought this for an older product (rooted Samsung Galaxy Note 1,worked flawlessly). I thought that reinstalling the application in the new one would get me radio again. After reading your explanation know that the device is no meant to have radio in the first place, don't know why, but a little disappointed with the phone now :S

I had tried this long ago with a Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 that came with fm radio out of the box, but I changed roms and wanted fm back. The kernel I had was supposed to work with fm radio, but I was never able to get this app to work. Thanks for the work, I know this helps a lot of people. I just tried this with my OnePlus 3 and can confirm that it does NOT work.

AMAZING. I got this for my old HTC Thunderbolt because the stock app doesn't let you output through the speakers. Turned my old brick of a phone into an awesome free FM radio. No more wifi streaming for me ! Thank you :D

Stock ROM and Android 4.4.4. You have to turn OK Google for Any Screen off or you won't get audio. Haven't messed with it enough to figure out why.

Your efforts were well worth it. Even if I have to wear headphones, free ota radio is fantastic on a phone.

The Z3v didn't come with any kind of fm tuner so I found this gem through some online research. Works great with headphones as antenna but will still pick up a few channels without them. The Z3v will be updating to android 5.0 at some point so Please try to make Spirit2 work with the android 5.0 on the z3v if possible.

Android upgrade kills this app. But they did warn, so no Stat loss. But it would be nice.

Mike, you´re the man! I have rooted my S3 and lost fm tuner. Now I have it back thanks to people like you. Keep up to the hard work.

Glad to find this! HTC One M7, old Sprint phone, now I have a good FM tuner for listening to local FM stations. Very useful, especially in an emergency. Intuitive interface, good strong reception with the headphones plugged in. Thanks Mike! Glad to pay a few bucks for a great app, please keep this updated.

Works great. Rooting was a bit of a pain to get everything sorted out for my Droid 4, but now it is very cool to have FM access.

Joh. L. Jul 11, 2015

Only issue is that it will not play out Bluetooth on this device.

I've been very loyal to my T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide but I finally needed to get on a more recent OS so I flashed CM9.1 and lost access to the FM radio that I used to get through the old HTC Sense ROM. When I initially downloaded Spirit it gave me some trouble but I reached out and got great help and was eventually able to get it working. If you want real actual FM and your hardware and OS support it, this is what you've been looking for.

Worked great on kitkat. Please provide update/fix for lollipop or issue refunds.

Rak. I. Mar 5, 2015

Need to disable "OK Google" detection on any screen for this app to work. Other than that, it works excellent on Sony Xperia Z3v (Verizon).

Mik. A. May 9, 2015

Works well with z3v, excellent sound quality also. Just needs a nicer widget shortcut.

Ale. R. Mar 19, 2016

Thanks man! I thought that I would never be able to hear radio again on my GT-I9070 with CM 11 :D

I was really excited about this app until my phone updated to lollipop and it stopped working. When will this app work on this new processor?

Ste. W. Jun 12, 2015

Works as stated on Verizon Sony Z3v. Kudos to developer.

Ser. D. Feb 14, 2015

It works. Fast respond time. No lag. But got the most ugliest UI there ever is! BTW Spirit2 lags!!
