Spirit2: Real FM Radio 4 AOSP

Spirit2 is a real, tuned, over-the-air FM radio app for rooted and AOSP ROM'd Android devices. If you don't understand "root", please look at Spirit1. Spirit does not require Internet access.
I cancel any order on request within 30 days, or much longer when appropriate.

Please email [email protected] to refund, report bugs, or for older versions. Further information and ask any question here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/spirit-fm

! IMPOSSIBLE Devices: ALL Nexus & MANY Samsung & other devices have FM purposely & unfixably disabled in hardware. No app can EVER fix that. Email for refund & explanation of Google's false "compatability" checking. NO FM for GALAXY S4/S5, Note3/Note4, Tab, All US Galaxy S/Note class phones, Motorola flagships, and MANY more

Android Lollipop 5 required A huge re-architecture of Spirit2, but non-beta KitKat users get the older design.

Spirit2 is the successor to Spirit1 Unlocked and is the "Best Darn FM app"
* in existence !

I am still enjoying Spirit 1, is there any reason to pay again for Spirit 2? : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52304938&postcount=7787

Spirit2 supports only the most popular, recent, higher end devices that have digital audio support in Spirit1 Unlocked. See list below. The Spirit2 UI and underlying architecture are much improved. Spirit1 Unlocked is still more mature/bug-free and has more features. Your support will help Spirit2 match and exceed the Spirit1 feature set.

Requires AOSP !: If you don't know what AOSP means, Spirit2 is not for you. Spirit1 Unlocked works on numerous stock phones: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mikersmicros.fm_unlock

*"Best darn FM app": Yes, it has some bugs, and may lack some "polish" of stock FM apps, but it's the most functional and has more settings.

The ONLY FM app supporting ALL this: Equalizer, Effects, Recording, BT A2DP and Visualizer.

Spirit2 also supports multiple "remote" displays and controls: Home and lock-screen widget, lock-screen, notification shade, BT AVRCP and future Android remotes. AVRCP puts RDS and station info on the display of compatible BT headsets, and controls Pause/Play and preset selection. Was pretty cool the first time I saw that working.

Main XDA info thread, LOTS of info updated March 25: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537861

Spirit2 "Official Support"*: ONLY these phones running "Compatible AOSP"*
* ROMs: Samsung GS3 GT-I9300 Samsung GS2 GT-I9100 Samsung GS1 GT-I9000 Samsung Note2 GT-N7100 Samsung Note1 GT-N7000 HTC One (GPE requires BT off) HTC OneXL LTE, OneS, Evo 4G LTE (2013 CM11 only. 2014 kernels broke FM) LG G2 D802 International and Sprint LS980 only. (Some stock, CM11 and Mahdi ROMs only as of March, 2014) Motorola Moto G

*"Official Support" means I own the phone and I can properly support it.

**"Compatible AOSP" ROMs includes as many AOSP ROMs as I can reasonably support, that have the FM and audio kernel drivers needed to enable FM. CM11 is the most popular and best supported, except for the incompatible 2014 kernels for HTC OneXL LTE, OneS, and Evo 4G LTE. LG G2 is only supportable on CM11, AOKP and Mahdi ROMs as of April, 2014.

Unofficial Support:The only other devices with a chance of working fully are those with Qualcomm WCN3660 or newer compatible FM/BT/WiFi chips as well as Qualcomm WDC9310 or newer compatible audio chips. This includes most late 2012+ Sony devices starting with Xperia T. These may or may not work well, and are not officially supported. With sufficient demand I will consider buying a "Z" device and officially supporting some Sony's.

Stock ROMs:Spirit2 also works reasonably well on many stock or stock derived ROMs when rooted. But there are often problems, such as FM over BT issues on Samsung stock ROMs. Most of my customers are on AOSP/CM ROMs.

Thanks ! :)Mike.

[LG G3, CM13] Everything works as it should, but the sound quality is really poor, regardless of signal strength. There's a lot of noise, and the audio is generally tinny with barely any lows. The LG built in radio app I had before root offered far greater quality.

LG G2-D802 user. Does the job nicely, but it can't co-run with enabled WiFi. When I run Spirit2, WiFi gets switched off automatically and you can't enable it again unless you reboot. Happens on CM13, used to also happen on CM12.1 and CM11. Thanks.

Apologies for this message, but people should know and not complain about lack of support. Check XDA site link in the app description. By the way, this app works on my S3, with CM13 ROM. I'm very impressed.

HTC One M8 converted to GPE Marshmallow. EQ does not open and audio will output only through headphones. It would be nice to redirect audio to device speakers.

Not working with rooted Xiaomi note 4x. Crashes and no stereo sound. Original app works fine.

Had some problems with that app in the past. However, works great now with cm13 on my i9100!

Works gr8, good sound quality, no headphones required... I like the interface and am really impressed by "REC" option... Keep up the good work Mike.

I stopped using this app a while ago. Today I got cm12 on my g2 and decided to install thus so again. It's working 90%, just because I can't get the speaker function to work.

I converted my at&t m8 from Sense to stock GPe. Soon after, I really missed using the Sense radio tuner. Luckily, this app works just as well and it's the only app I've found that is a legit radio tuner. My only complaint is that the UI is pretty ugly and outdated.

Spirit1 is still the only FM app that works with my old HTC Vision but it works so well that I don't mind paying for Spirit2 in order to support such a dedicated developer. I was looking forward to using the slick new interface, though.

Brought for a Z1 compact running lollipop and it worked fine. Only problem was the sound quality was poor like it was coming from a cheap radio but i understand that is because of how Sony make the phones. So 5 stars as the fault lays with Sony not the app

Spirit1 free works fine, butu this one is severely buggy. Once sound is fixed will up the stars. --- After wiping the system partition and doing a full wipe then flashing again it now works. Apologies.

Doesn't run on a cyanogen mod 12 Samsung i8190. Tuner worked on the stock Samsung firmware, so it is available as hardware. Mike sent me spirit 1 ul as an alternative. It worked after installation with headphones. Didn't find a way to get sound over the speaker. thanks for the FM radio :)

I looked into this app as I needed a Radio app for my Moto G (Gen 1) that would stream to my Bluetooth headset. The author was very quick and helpful with my questions ahead of purchase. Since install, it has worked flawlessly and I can once again enjoy the radio while riding my motorcycle to and from work each day. Thank you for a job well done Mike. I highly recommend this app.

Samsung S4 with Kit Kat rooted phone. Get Error: Tuner API did not start or stop. Not a working app. Need refunded or fix please.

A. G. u. Jul 17, 2015

Tuner API did not start or stop. The device may need a kernel with a working FM driver. What is wrong!!! Google Play says this application is compatible with my HTC One mini. Turns out it is not. (((

Art. K. Apr 22, 2015

On CM 11 - Android 4.4 Kitkat using this app was a lottery, but on OmniRom based on Android 5.1 works flawlessy.

And. Oct 11, 2015

On an LG G3 there is no way to remove the audio distortion. Pity as the RF side seems good.

Kon. R. Oct 18, 2015

This is a real ukw radio and works mostly fine!! To the developer: on my rooted S3 I can't switch the music output from earphines to the speaker. If I press the button, it is still playing over the earphones. Please fix this! I would give 5 Stars for this app as soon as this is fixed.

Ess. S. Nov 29, 2015

Works beautifully with rooted stock Lollipop 5.1.1 rom and Project Desire sound mod.

Gar. S. Apr 26, 2015

Bought it then realised it only works on lollipop :( I am still waiting for my update :( Spirit1 still working great though :)

Jer. G. Sep 1, 2015

I use it on my rooted Verizon HTC one m8 running Android 5.01 Google Play Edition. Happy so far.

Downloaded it and said it malfunctioned. No redress or help. Don't waste your money. Stay away. Will contact PayPal to try to get money back. Rubbish
