Spyder4Gallery

****NOTE****Please note that a Spyder4™ colorimeter is required to use the calibration component of SpyderGallery™ for Android.
Android users can enjoy color-managed image viewing in the SpyderGallery app, which accesses your existing standard photo albums instead of requiring app-specific folders or albums. SpyderGallery also provides an easy-to-use calibration utility to create a custom color profile on your Android device. Viewing images through the color-managed viewer will allow for more accurate color and provide you with a closer match to desktop monitors and other color-managed displays.

For photographers who use their Android smartphone or tablet as a portable portfolio tool, SpyderGallery is a critical accessory to ensure that your work is being displayed correctly. Those wanting to display images while on-the-go, whether for professional or personal use, will no longer need to compromise color-accuracy for the convenience of your Android device.

"I've had my Nexus 7 for nearly a year, but have been disappointed in it's lack of color in the display. Using SpyderGallery, the colors now match my Spyder calibrated desktop screen perfectly!I use my Nexus 7 to show clients images from my shoots in progress. Up to now, I have to explain how the final images will have better color. With SpyderGallery, the progress shots on the Nexus pad appear as good as on my desktop calibrated screen.” – John Nollendorfs.

App Highlights:
• Color-correct your Android smartphone and tablet running Honeycomb 3.0 or higher
• View all images loaded on your Android device in one easy to use gallery viewer, no photo importing required
• Personal photo watermarking feature
• Pixel-level zooming capabilities

Kitkat on my Samsung note 8 does not work. It was great with Jellybean, it has to work now with kitkat, waiting for the upgrade, hope soon. Edit 2 months later and no fix, I think Google screwed us with Kitkat. Ther are 2 new versions out but not to the Samsung note 8 and spydergallery does not care. Edit 3 on sept 1 2014 Datacolor sent a new update. Yea, it now works with Kitkat and a sd card. Changed the stars to 5.

1. the calibration profile is applied only to pictures viewed inside this app. Does not work for the entire system. 2. Slow. The pictures load very hard, sometimes they never load. It has bugs connecting to Flickr or even Facebook. 3. Resolution is bad. Is not loading the picture full resolution. This is created for photographers. I would not use this app to show to my customers pictures through this app because it's slow and has bad res. Overall, the idea is ok, but still needs allot of work.

After trying out both SpyderGallery and ColorTrue by X-rite, I can say ColorTrue feels more refined and it also support internal gallery on Note4. SpyderGallery got a lot of things need to catch up before can compete with ColorTrue. ColorTrue will get my vote for now.

On my Sony Xperia SP, the calibration looks good. It seems a bit more saturated than the one in my laptop though. A few things that could be improved are the connection to Flickr, it just couldn't connect. So, I just downloaded a few samples to my phone's gallery. But a connected Flickr gallery could really help a lot! Another thing that can be improved is the small panel for listing the galleries. Please try to make it bigger, currently it occupies less than a quarter of the screen! Thank you.

Ok, it calibrates my tablet and kinda works as a viewer, but does not take advantage of my Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 2560x1600 resolution! Images are displayed at lower resolution (maybe 1280 x 800, but appear even lower), which is useless! Half-baked interface is also terrible... I weighted the pros and cons of Spyder 4 Pro vs. competitors, and had I known the Android app was useless as is I might have chosen a different product.

This app only works with a Spyder4. I own a Spyder5Elite for my desktop. The Spyder4 is a discontinued product according to B&H Photo. Very frustrating.

Despite nice idea, the implementation is far from good: some images displayed wrong, bad GUI in selecting album, slow, does not scale all larger images right.

This app would be good if the developers updated it to work with their newer calibration devices, I have a Pro 5 and am unable to calibrate my mobile devices as the app states I need to have a 4. Developers, please update...

Doesn't work with Spyder5. Datacolor website lists SpyderGallery under discontinued products. :(

Slow to view pictures, and that is made worse by a lack of caching.

It calibrates, I can see the gallery, but does not apply the calibration. I can only see the pictures with the calibration in the app.

Title says it all. Wouldn't pair. The other devices, it goes through

Kudos for the initiative. Any chance you will make it compatible with Spyder5?

Out of date

Decent picture browser a bit slow. Was hoping for system wide color calibration not just picture browser color calibration, but it's better than no calibration at all. It would be 5 stars if browsing speeed was greater. It works ok on my Samsung 10.1 v (all in all for bonus aplication V1.0 it looks and works better than expected)

As many other users reported, the app crashes *every single time* I try to open the local gallery. I managed to calibrate my Nexus 10, though with troubles, I had to try a few times. But now I can only view Flicker, and even this doesn't work very well. Very poor software engineering!

Doesn't work on KitKat. Calibration works, but force-closes on gallery load. (Unfortunately, because it's the gallery that displays color-corrected images, without the gallery, the app is useless and the calibration is meaningless.) datacolor is aware of the issue and has informed me via email, "We are working on a fix here. We are very sorry, we do not have a time line for a release yet."

Dam. W. Feb 23, 2014

This is a great idea. However since the main purpose is to be a gallery, this should be the default behaviour, instead of a menu with gallery being just one of those items. My biggest problem with this app is that even though I have linked it to Flickr, I never get Flickr as one of the galleries that I can choose from! I am using an Asus Transformer Android tablet.

I have to say, I am very disappointed to see that Datacolor aren't making this available to "Spyder 3" users. It gives me the impression you're using this promising little app as a 'promotion tool" for the Spyder4 and leaving us pre-existing customers (with a Spyder3) in the dark.

Works well on Nexus 7 and Sony Xperia S. Although the photos may be slow to process (1-2 s), as clearly stated in the app details, the results are well worth the wait. 4 stars at this stage, as there is some room to improve the app. For example, it would be great to have direct/quicker access to the gallery rather than having to go through the main menu; the ability to sort photos in different orders (e.g., alphabetical, date, reverse order); and sharing of 'color-corrected' photos for use in other apps. Finally, however, it may not work with all devices.

I was excited to see this app available for my Nexus 7. Downloaded and calibrated... Couldn't even view a single photo because it took so long to load. Then once it finally did a few MINUTES later it crashed. The interface is woeful. It seems more like a poor, halfhearted attempt to port the app from iOS and once it was (somewhat) stable it was left to fend for itself. Very unimpressed considering the exceptional quality we are used to seeing from Datacolor.

1 - The user interface is poorly laid out for a small screen devices. 2 - The calibration never completes successfully. (Expanding on point #1; Screen says to enjoy newly calibrated device, dialog box showing that the calibration has failed.). I tried to calibrate for about ~5 times before I gave up. The connection to desktop's SpyderGallery was established and logs were running. I could probably close one eye on other problems if #2 works - but hey.. that would be asking too much from this app.

A. G. u. Dec 27, 2013

Simply doesn't work! Was able to go through calibration process. But it was pointless because can't open gallery to see images in calibrated form. Crashes every time.

Hug. S. Jul 17, 2014

Unfortunetly does not work properly on my Lg G2. Every time when i try to calibrate with spyder4 elite sensor and win7 the calibration process finished with an annoying error message. ..Updated: it works with win Xp, but still does not on win7 :(
