SQUARE ENIX Software Token

I've seen people with complaints about it, but can't really relate. I've been using the app for years and has worked flawlessly every single time. Registration may be a bit annoying, but its a one time thing. The problems people have experienced with this part may have been related with the expansion launch, but I recently switched the token to another phone and it was a 5 min. process.

Works great when it wants to. I have to use my emergency removal password and then set it up again every other time. The only reason I still use it is for the free teleport and to keep my account secure. From what I can tell I'm not the only person having this problem...Why Square can't make a software security token is beyond me because it seems like the physical one works perfectly fine. I don't want to buy a physical one so get your stuff working... it's not that hard

Would prefer I could use any 2fa app. It generally works fine, but it looks kind of dated. All of the actions are jammed at the top 15% of the screen (the buttons are way smaller for me than in the pics), the only way to reset the code is to hit the back button and generate a new one (why is there no refresh button?). None of that is major, but the app could use a little attention. But you are getting functional 2fa for your account and the ability in game to have a free travel destination.

So, seeing all the negative reviews about this apps data resetting itself, I decided to give it a go. 2 weeks later and it hasn't given me a problem. Works perfectly fine. Only issue is the OTP timer shows max length every time you view it no matter how close it is to expiring but it's no big deal. Also, TO PEOPLE SAYING YOU NEED THIS TO PLAY: You don't! Just leave the one-time password field empty since you don't have one. Been playing 3 years and only just got this; it is completely optional.

Security is a high priority and adding a 2FA method is important to me. With that said, I have used this app several times over the years only to have it "forget" or lose its settings which would lock me out of my account quite often. After a long break away from Square-Enix products I decided to reinstall and give this app another try... after all, it has been a few years. Did they make it better? Nope. It's still as much of a piece of junk as it always has been.... get the physical token.

The app itself is great, if you have a single carrier or a single SIM card. The moment you use Project Fi or multiple SIMs, the app becomes useless to the user. I ended up going back to an old hardware token because the app would lose settings every time the carrier switched since they have disabled the ability to block phone access for the app. This used to be a great app for me, but I have to give it a failing review now due to the short-sightedness of the dev team to accommodate users who do not fit in to their required use case.

The application regularly resets on dual sim phones / Project Fi. This occurs every time the phone changes carriers. I lose access to my Square Enix Account every time this occurs. The work around to correct this was to disable phone permissions for the application. However, an update made over the summer prevents the application from running when this permission is not enabled. This results in an unusable security token. The application does not work as advertised and I would not recommend using it. If you play FF14 and are on Project Fi, buy a physical token or play a different game.

Great alternative to the hardware authenticator, but if you are on Google Fi or a plan that changes networks it will unlink and force you to do emergency recovery constantly. Been a problem for years that they don't seem willing to fix. You can install an older version that doesn't require Phone permissions to get around this. This will be 5 starts once this simple bug gets some attention.

Everyone who's complaining about this obviously didn't read first. First off, always keep a hard copy of your software removal code on hand. IF your phone dies or is lost, SE customer support can help remove it--IF you have the removal code and serial number on hand, otherwise you must manually remove it when upgrading phones. It's not hard to do this, they tell you to do it when it's installed. It works fine and I've never had a single issue with my account since getting it.

Horrible. I had reservations about setting up 2FA on my account for a long time because if anything went wrong I'd be relying on a support ticket, and this app does not exactly assuage those concerns with it's vague, barebones nature. I tried setting it up this morning, and my reservations were immediately vindicated. I wasn't able to login *immediately*, despite multiple attempts, and you need to log in at least once to get the removal code. I now am waiting on a ticket to get my account back.

First time using it. Similar to googles, setup is easy. I will admit the long registration pass is excessive and prone to mistakes. However, its no real issue. Just be on the mog station to start the process get the email with it, and you'll be set up. Only used it once so far but i didnt have any issues.

Plenty of people have given this a 1 star review due to issues from moving carriers or having Google Fi. Where yes, that is an issue, for anyone else this app works fine as an authenticator. My only issue is the menu system, in true Square Enix fashion, looks like it's from 2010. If you have Google Fi or switch carriers often, unfortunately, you're better off with a physical authenticator.

Nothing fancy and does what is intended. had installed since Christmas. It works and had no problems using it after updates with phone as as well as app updates. Using dual sim galaxy s10+ with two sim cards on different networks. Phone not rooted. not giving 5 stars as could have better interface and use notifications with advances in technology and authenticators. previous to this I used physical security token for years but phone is a lot easier and more convenient.

Absolutely awful! Basically anytime you power off your phone, restart it, or clear your cache - the app breaks and you get locked out of your account until you remove the authenticator. So I would highly advise against using it because I can't believe it has such a major design flaw. That's just mind-numbingly stupid. It's not worth the free teleport destination or the added security,. Just use a better password.

This one time password emergency removal token nonsense is stopping me from even trying FFXIV. I need the OTP to login to both the website and the app... and can't get the OTP without first being logged into and having access to the OTP.. absolute garbage. Second time trying to give the game a go and it's this stupid system that stops me each time after an hour of going in circles I'm at a loss.

Installed about a week ago on Galaxy 8+. No problems. Some of the reviews talk about SE forcing you to use this. This is optional. I've seen better token apps, but this one is adequate. Phones do weird things and updates from the carrier and other apps can effect apps unintentionally. If you understand security tokens, this is a fine app.

Moderate set-up difficulty. Follow the instructions closely or youll have problems others have described here. You will be bouncing between the app, your e-mail and mog station for registration process. I followed it carefully and it works flawlessly (so far). Other than that the app is... well, very boring. Not much else to say. It provides a one time use key which must be used in conjunction with your password at log in... that's it.

I mean it works? But if you ever change device it's a nightmare. If you ever lose your code. You have to go through their support team which is fine. But it means you can't play until you get a response. I don't kkow why they don't just add 2 step verification like everywhere else so you can use other apps like Google authenticator etc.

An update resulted in this app being reset, which locked me out of my account. You can technically remove the OTP requirement if you have the emergency removal password written down, but it shouldn't be necessary in the first place. I will also mirror the complaints that others had regarding usability. Please just allow Google or Duo authenticator to be used in the future. This app is so bad that I'm going to risk having no additional authentication until there's an actual good option.

Works okay when it works, but still oddly slow compared to third party authenticators using standard TOTP algorithms. The real problem with this app is that it can randomly reset all saved data, requiring you to use an emergency password to remove 2FA in order to access your account. This has happened to me multiple times and most recently I had to contact support because the emergency password I got during registration wasn't working. Use a third party authenticator if you value your sanity.

Stopped working. Couldn't log in unless I removed it entirely. Now it won't let me add it back unless I have a 'registration password' on a site which it won't give me or send to my email, and no call has come through like the app requested to do. Now I'm worried that I've tried to re-add it to my phone and account, and it might lock me out if I log out. It was working fine before, why is it toast now?! Bad app!

Absolutely useless, tried migrating from old phone, the website doesn't have any mention of the token anymore, making it impossible. In addition I can't log in from my old phone anymore, despite being able to like 30 minutes earlier. Going to stop using any square enix services or playing their games. Well done losing a customer via complete incompetence.

I'm another Google Fi user who is having to drop the app & buy a physical security token. I've been on Fi for the last 3 years & used the app without issue, but as of a few weeks ago it's begun unregistering itself (apparently every time I change carriers, which is whenever I use data), so I have to use my emergency password & reset it every time I want to login. I have an old security token but they don't let you reuse those either, so now I get to spend $11 to login securely. Thanks SE!

I personally like the extra security it gives. As someone who plays FFXIV, it a security measure one would need if you purchase things with real money. Setting it up was the only thing that was annoying. Would have taken a half a star off if it would let me.

It worked fine for ages, now almost every single other day, I have to use the emergency removal password and re-register the app because it continues to reset and lose my configurations. It's an absolute nightmare lately. Please address this issues!!!

I have always been a fan of 2-step verification, it's a genius way of adding another layer of security to any account while barely being much of a hassle, so if any website or app offers it, I'll always go for it; That being said, this is probably the worst 2-step I've ever seen, I've never had any problems with 2-step until today with this terrible app, and I can't stress enough how much I recommend avoiding this app at all costs.

As a Google Fi user my phone swaps between different carriers, multiple times per day. The fact that the app needs "Phone" permissions causes my app to reset each time it swaps carriers, which requires me to use the emergency removal of my authenticator from my account. You can only remove the authenticator once daily. So in order to play the game I have to go through a security settings reset and then not move my phone if I need to log back in for any reason, EVERY 24 HOURS! This is ridiculous.

I have had to use my recovery key multiple times. The app would just forget everything. That's a case of almost loosing access to my account permanently! Seriously, it's not hard to do 2FA right. Merely follow the TOTP standard, with an emergency backup method. This game isn't security critical, so SMS should be enough.
