Squid: Take Notes, Markup PDFs

Take handwritten notes naturally on your Android tablet or phone! With Squid you can write just like you would on paper using an active pen, passive stylus, or your finger. Easily markup PDFs to fill out forms, edit/grade papers, or sign documents. Import images, draw shapes, and add typed text to your notes. Quickly select, copy/paste, and move content between pages and notes. Organize your notes within notebooks and increase your productivity!
Turn your device into a virtual whiteboard or give presentations in a class, meeting, or conference by wirelessly casting to a TV/projector (e.g. using Miracast, Chromecast). Export notes as PDFs or images, then share them with others or store them in the cloud!

Squid is vector based
- keeping your notes beautiful at any zoom level and on any device. You can erase entire letters and words quickly with the stroke eraser tool, or just parts of words with the true eraser tool. The selection tool allows you to change the color and thickness of your handwriting and even resize a drawing whenever you want without any loss in quality.

Squid takes special advantage of active pens on capable devices to provide natural, pressure sensitive handwriting. Just write with the pen and erase with your finger!

Squid is designed to be both powerful and simple to use, allowing you to take notes quickly and efficiently.

Okay, I am VERY thorough. I like to have the best apps for school and work. I spent SO MUCH time comparing apps and THIS... THIS IS THE ONE I LOVE. It works the best on my 2-in-1 chromebook with an emr pen. The only option I wish there was, is a rectangle magnifier which gives you the ability to write on a part of the page but you write from the bottom of the screen (I don't know how to explain it very well, I am sorry). I really hope it's a feature I will see in the future as it would mean you spend less time scrolling / sliding and you can write even clearer and condensed notes :D

I like a lot about this app. However, I wish I could change the background colors for my notes, while maintaining grids/layouts for better contrast. I absolutely HATE that the most useful (to me) additional features are locked behind a subscription, I would be much happier with a one-time upgrade fee for all "premium features". For some reason, importing PDFs is a feature that can be unlocked with a one-time fee, but not additional layouts? Wack.

Good: -It works well, and the interface is nice. -It is also very nice to be able set it up to erase with your finger (after taking notes with your stylus wacom or active based). It is relatively easy to export to jpg or locally to the device or google drive. -There is a cast button that lets you cast to google devices... like nest hubs and chrome cast... I have not tried in the office with Google Meet conference hardware, but will update when I do. -They don't have their own weird cloud. This app is standalone and does not need an account with whoever devs Squid. -You can lasso inserted photos and move them Bad: -The erase with your finger option is negated by the fact that when the palm rejection doesn't work (which happens often), ends up erasing your notes (I guess this is more problematic for me since I am left handed). I had to turn it off. -There is no option to auto backup to Google Drive or OneDrive. This is particularly upsetting, because unless you remember to manually backup, you may lose your device and your notes. To do that you would have to use Dropbox or Box (i am not about to get another service just for this app). Also, given that those two are the most popular cloud services for business, it makes it impossible for me to propose the adoption of this app at work. -This app is subscription based. Premium features cost per month/year... not single purchase like INKredible. I guess you can buy features one at a time, but that doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I am still on the fence of which app to keep.

This is a really great app for STEM students. It's totally worth the subscription fee. I love that it has a shape drawing tool for perfect lines, boxes, and circles. Biggest downside is there is no syncing across devices and since there is no account you log into, you're stuck with premium on one divices only. It will do backup to the Drop Box service, but Drop Box costs money as well. This app would be flawless if it could either sync to my computer, or auto backup to Google drive.

What I like about this app is the limitless canvas available, which I find useful. The reason for this is when I'm doing mathematical calculations it's handy to be able to keep the last step in sight when scrolling down for more space. With a page turning approach you completely lose from sight the work you have done, which can be annoying. I imagine the same thing applies when making designs so this app overcomes the restrictions of a cell phone screen. It' s also has a fairly simple interface.

Had to pay for ability to type with text. Working with squid was ok. Cannot scroll screen when editing except with keyboard arrows. Worst, notes I typed previous evening disappeared. The not page is still there, but it is empty. Copied all my notes to other app so as to ensure they are safe. Have to re-do my lost notes. Not helpful!!!

Overall Great App. I wish their was a way to add pictures specifically to the note you page. You can add them, just to a separate page and it takes a little leg work (convert the picture to PDF etc). I also wish there was an option to type some of the notes, because my handwritting can leave something to be desired. It is easy to add powerpoints and note pages. You can create separate folders, which is great for organization.

Awesome note-taking app, been using it for all of my college classes. Keeps things organized, I can color code my notes, and occasionally doodle. My only gripe is that I can't make folders for notes, they all just lay on the dashboard. I also wish I could change the color or add a picture to identify notes on the front page, they meld together when they're all blue. Edit: They're super receptive to feedback, requests, and ideas, such great app!

this is a really great note taking app! i use it to take notes on my chromebook and it's been exactly what i need. the premium version is really cheap which is nice. i only wish there were a few more tools and organization features; a fill tool, a ruler, and different types of lines (like a dotted line) would be nice. also, if you could change the color of different notes or make folders within notebooks that'd make organization easier. but it's a great app, i like it a lot!

Absoultly love Squid! It is so easy to use and get the hang of. It has helped so much for my college classes. The premium only being a $1 /month is a plus, finally someone who knows a resonable price for college students. Only thing I wish for is to be able to open two notes at a time it would really help in being able to use past notes for current homework assignments

Update 3/5: feels like the app only gets worse with updates. the app will randomly freeze and even if i close and open the app up it will not allow me to choose a file and stays on the home screen. sometimes the app won't even open at all and i have to restart my device (it's the app because this does not happen with any of my other apps). lastly, it will freeze on the eraser sometimes and not allow me to write. ive gone back to writing with paper and pencil, it's much better

This is the best S pen based app on android. It is simple to use and the features just flow nicely. There is a limited number of pens and highlighters but they have what you need. I love how easy it is to import Pdf abd annotate them. I wish it would be cross compatible with other devices. Overall, I live this app and keep coming back to it.

Say. H. Apr 23, 2022

Very good app but some basic features hid behind a paywall for example highlighting which is a shame. The UI isn't great but it's fine overall. One big problem is that I have to go into a submenu to use the eraser tool which should be on the default menu. No ability to customize the UI or map the buttons on my stylus to anything other than the default.

I have been using a pixelbook with a pixel pen with Squid to draw. Recently, I found the app unresponsive frequently that require me to reboot. All other apps work except Squid. It wasn't like that a year ago but it has been like that in the past few months. Anyone has similar experience?

Phi. F. Jan 18, 2022

Great app! I would love a pipette feature though since it would make working with plots/graphs a lot easier as well as other colored displays. Apart from that, dark mode support would be nice, too. Just some suggestions, otherwise no complaints! Simple, no-BS note-taking app, exactly what I've been looking for.

Lee. S. Apr 9, 2022

This app is miles ahead of any other active stylus notetaking solution for Chromebooks. It 'just works.' It isn't super limited, has all standard pen tools and export options, organizes pages well, and has low-latency, pressure sensitive input. No solutions from Google or other players match it.

Dan. S. Dec 14, 2021

I really like Squid app, so easy to download PDFs and share, so much you can do whit this app, but, it would be THE PERFECT APP if we were able to zynchronice between devices. I use it on my z fold 3 at work and on my chromebook and it is a bit irritated that I do not have everything in one app, it's like I have two apps at a time. please make that update!!!

Ja. E. Jan 29, 2022

Looks promising but free version is nothing but a simple sketchpad and most features are behind a subscription paywall. In terms of pricing. It's priced fairly well but I would rather not pay immediately for a premium that I haven't even tried, and I won't go the hassle of refunding just to try some features. So, my recommendation is, is have a trial period 1 week will suffice, 1 month is generosity.

Jan. D. Jan 6, 2022

There should be better palm rejection. As soon as I put down my palm edge on the screen, the page moves and jumps pretty randomly, although I have all single finger input turned off. Very frustrating and annoying. There should also be a possibility to restrict the page infinity to vertical only. Many, many people would need an infinite paper roll. Fewer need an infinite sheet.

Jon. P. Jan 15, 2022

The only drawing app i will use. This app has helped me design most of the rooms in my house plus redesigning my garden. If I lost this app I would be really stuck. Its easy to use plus accurate and gives you many templates to use while drawing or graph work. It is worth the £6 a year to remove the ads. So I highly recommend this and thank you to the developers.

Great App to take notes, extra features are worth the price, and I appreciate that you can choose between a subscription and a once off payment, depending on if you want sync features or just the full app. Edit 2: My problem got solved by disabling low latency ink. Can add good customer support to the positives now.

Great, easy to use tools for hand-written note taking. PDF editing allows imports and mark-ups of pdf files, although this feature requires a one-time payment to unlock. Cannot add additional margins to take more notes on the sides of each page like you can with OneNote pdf imports, but the greater zoom magnification (which also maintains resolution way better than OneNote) and ability to add blank pages at the end compensates for this. Typing notes does require monthly subscription though.

Gra. L. Jan 20, 2022

It's a great app! I have the premium which is only $1 a month so I never have to worry about expenses. I use it for class and it works great with my Samsung Tablet and S Pen. I give it only 4 stars because I wish it had the option to select certain pages out of the file to export instead of only being able to export the entire thing or one page. That's the only problem I have run into though!!

Gen. W. Mar 24, 2022

So close to perfect! I very much want to support this app except there is no way to carry out a subscription except through Play Store. Some of the features that are pro are certainly worth the price, but a more decentralized option would be worth 5 stars and twice the subscription rate.

Jan. H. Apr 4, 2022

I have been loving this app! It is perfect for taking notes in class and keeping them organized. I am currently a high school student and use the free version of the app. I will be going to university navy year and plan on getting the premium version. I like that it is affordable and has many helpful tools but also appreciate how usable the free version is as well.

Best app for clearing the doubts of the students and to give notes to them as a teacher. It really helps a lot and personally i have suggested to all my colleagues. Amazing feature of all is to erase with one finger and continue writing without having much disturbance in writing. I'm just loving it. To purchase few things inside app,I feel they are too costly. I would have bought them if I need to pay only once. But still I feel it is very comfortable. Thanks for the idea of the creator😍🤩

Almost perfect but it's just not there. Got the app to do digital planning. Paid for the subscription so I could upload the pdf planner I bought and after I got it in, that's when I found out that Squid does not support hyperlinks within the document. It's a 772 pg planner so it's absolutely worthless without the hyperlinks to help navigate. Had to go to another less awesome app just for that feature. Please fix!!
