Overall it's a great tool for the night sky, but I have to take exception about it being so tone-deaf about the Southern Hemisphere. Many times it presents moments to me to that are directly down at my feet. Celestial mechanics might be complicated, but for an app that has so much of them sorted out it's an insulting oversight.
A very nice experience for the most part. I paid for some extras and think it was well worth it. Only bad thing is the *&$%ing auto zoom resets each time I close the app, even though I change the settings. This is really annoying because I hate this feature and I have to turn it off everything I use it, so basically almost every night. Other than that, I definitely recommend it.
It works great! But you can't swing your phone around too fast or it will mess up the orientation. Slow movements, and if what your looking at doesn't match, then close it and open at the horizon. Slow movements is key.
Completely inaccurate. Every time I open it, it believes north is in a different direction to last time. Over the course of just one minute, I opened and closed the app a few times, and the moon miraculously apparently moved back and forth. Wouldn't trust this for any information.
The stars, chart and the application, it's quite beautiful, especially with the music. I think it could use a little more instruction on finding the particular star cluster, matching the star with the chart & the approximate time as I have found some difficulty in matching Stars with the chart. Most of the planets in May are not available until early morning-the chart indicates that they are available when notified, in reality, they are not But for a free application it's display its top grade
So I was getting notifications on things to watch for in the night sky while testing the free version. Of course some of the settings are blocked on the free version. So I paid for the full version in order to find out more information regarding the notifications I keep getting. Come to find out there is no way to find this information in the application. The notification is all the information provided and if you accidentally remove the notification you're out of luck. I wouldn't recommend it.
Update: i use this every time i use my scope , i just wish we go zoom in further or manually add the lat/long, apart from that; Its perfect for new starters. Great effects and mapping, would love to see a higher/further 'zoom' feature but everything else is just peachy
Perfect app for stargazing! Works even when off grid. I frequent dark sky places and most have zero cell or wifi signal. Having an amazing tool like this app in your pocket when in a place like the Big Bend of Texas is priceless when you can see every single star, satellite and meteor so you can make sense of it all.
I wanted to search the coordinates of this star in the Canis Minor (Little Dog) constellation, but even though this constellation is a part of the 88 officially recognized constellations, it wasn't even listed. I think updating the constellation list to include at least all 88 constellations would be SUPER helpful! As well as allowing user to find a star by magnitude, declination, right ascention, tycho-identifier and such. Maybe even the option to heart a star to add it to favorites list?
Overall I enjoy the app, but I have two complaints. First, I find it difficult to figure out where things are unless I can use the moon to get my position. I would like for there to be instructions on using the compass in the bottom corner. Second, I appreciate the notification of special sightings, but often they arrive too late For example, the notice says a planets viewing is best around sunset, but I get the notice well after it is dark.
This app is perfect for anything really. My best use of it is when you're in a waiting period. It allows for distraction in an otherwise seemingly overwhelming world
Granted, I am not too familiar with your app yet. But when I try to sign in or try to see a meteor shower area or get any information on any of the buttons that are there it simply turns them offer on it will not let me find anything out or do anything. I believe this is a glitch and not a normal problem, at least I hope not but please fix it.
Love this app. It helps me locate the moon and the stars when the sky is clear or watch them anyway when it's not. Very peaceful music, great for meditation and etc. The notifications/reminders are awesome but they don't always come through. Maybe not meant to but I'd love to get notified about events, moon phases or even just the full moon monthly. Also it'd be extremely helpful if the notifications took us straight there, not just the app in general. Thanks developer!
Compared it to the same app in another phone. And against they clear night sky. Not 100 percent accurate. I would say there is a 10-15 degree variation.
Don't get me wrong. It's a great app that is free. But it's so trippy. Normally there is the floor telling you where is the sky and when you are just looking at the ground. But here, there is just a red line separating and there are stars on there too, like the sky. Also, the screen sometimes freezes and you can't learn about the stars. Other than that though, it's actually quite accurate. Not a bad app, but there are better ones out there. I will reinstall if there are updates.
Great app. I use it to spot stars in the night sky with my telescope. Shows all planets, major nebulae, galaxies and constellations. Has a built in compass you need to point your phone to a star to identify it. Pretty easy to use.
I love this app and have been using it for over 2 years now. I have shown all my friends and family and there just blown on how realistic it looks staring at the planets and consolations in the sky
I like using this app- beautifully made and even the music can be both exciting and relaxing! My only complaint about it is the compass- it doesn't seem very accurate. That's at least a small complaint. Nothing major. I think this is one sweet and inclusive app! Nuff said!
Used to fly F-4 Phantoms outta Pensacola... required to nav by the celestial belt w/ instrument failure. Never...ever did my instruments fail..but..my inner ears would confuse me...hence the most reliable guide of all..you guessed it... the stars n planets along the "Belt"
I live this ap, the only thing that I really want to change is I would like a calendar option to view dates and bookmark dates and times for celestial events and set reminders
The auto controls are kinda wonky and readjust to the wrong direction. I can't interact with the stars, constellations, planets etc. for more information. The graphics are dazzling though. A beautiful app.
This is a lot of fun to use. I've loved astronomy all my life and it's great to see the constellations and much of the night sky so vividly and precisely
One of my favourite apps! If you are looking for a star map, stop you found the best one. I have used and compared side by side with people using similar apps, everyone changed to Star Tracker. You can look at you screen with EVERYTHING scaled and named, in real time looking at the real thing, in every possible direction even straight down through your feet. It has settled bets and 2 extremely heated discussions. Screenshots from the App have also featured in school assignments.
