Star Wars Droids App by Sphero

Overall, I think its great. However, like some of the other products and their apps. after the Sphero app., it lacks the tilt steering option where you can control the robot by tilting the phone if you want. The original Sphero app. had this option but seems to be missing in the later apps. Like for the Droids and the Ollie app. (Not sure why this option was not included in the newer apps. since I think it's just a software app. solution.) Please consider adding this tilt steering option to the app. Thanks

Sadly, this app is required in order to use the "droids". I haven't been able to get my R2 working at all, (it isn't a lemon and even shows up in the app) even after following the instructions listed on their website, the droid still can't connect to the app. No point in having a product if it doesn't work. Additionally, my devices and OS all meet their requirements. Expect possible problems, even if you do have all the specifications.

Overall, the quality, features, and the easiness to learn the app is definitely a 5 and Im someone with absolutely no experience with owning a droid that is app enabled. My only question to the developer? When R2 is in the drive mode he wiggles alot as if my hardwoods floors are uneven.Also, R2 tilts and (fall over) on 2 to 3 of the icons ..Also the icon that thrushes him 4ward I noticed he goes very slow. Please Help...or should I return this little guy to the store.

This is a great app, very intuitive interface too. My kids love it. They use it to play with BB8, BB9 and R2D2. Question: How do I get this for Galaxy Tab A7 and A8? I can't find it in Play store when accessed through the tabs. I can't share it from my Samsung S8+ phone either - it doesn't appear in the list of shareable apps. TIA.

App is good and i am enjoying all the fun things you can do with R2 but in case anyone else is wanting to use the 'watch with me' feature in the uk you might be dissapointed. I contacted sphero as my app would not connect when trying to watch the films with R2 and they told me that uk (pal format) dvds do not currently work with the feature so you have to stream it. Hope they can get it sorted.

As of April 2021 I find that the "watch with me feature" no longer works w/ R2-D2. I receive a "failed to load assets" message with every movie. It sounds as though this October the app will no longer be available to download, and since every time the app opens it requires an update I suspect almost all of these expensive units will largely become bricks only a few years after being produced. That is the danger of producing something that relies on external, second-party technology to function.

I identified a bug. When I connect BB-8 to the app in the first Select Mode, only the joistick appears on the left side, the Expressions Controls don't appear on the right side. Do you intend to add the last film? Please do this! Thank you!

A good app but flawed. The control side of it works OK, but the 'watch movies with' function doesn't work at all. Have tried it with three movies now and it just won't sync. I gather its audio based. A manual start is desperately needed.

the patrol mode is nowhere near as good as the original BB8 app. it doesn't seem to give BB8 enough drive to work on even smooth carpet. also I'm experiencing trouble having two droids connected at once. It drops connection if you swap modes. Patrol on R2Q5 s bit dim, repeatedly bashes into the same spot.

I really love this concept and the R2-D2 droid it's for, however it disconnects frequently (which makes usage annoying to say the least). It would also be nice to put the droid into a patrol mode that a) went farther than a few feet and b) I could disconnect from the app to set to. I really just want tiny droids running around my apartment like pets.

Onscreen control in the app is nonfunctional after recent 1.7.2.3 update! Patrol mode is not working either now!! Cant do anything with any of the droids. Tried app on two different Android phones. Movie watching option gone too!! What gives??? Help! Roll back to previous version or fix!

Seems to work fine, except for the AR function, but I believe that is because my Motorola Moto C can't handle it. Would be nice if it had a second control wheel to control my bb9e's head, by itself. Other than that, the app is very good with the droid.

Update. Reset the drone and connection seams to be stable again now. Shame these is no human interaction with BB8 even it it was through the phone. Its also a bit hit and miss with watching films. Often just say trying to recognise. Tried different volumes etc. Worse on tv than on laptop. Old review "Wont stay connected after update"

After the last update BB8 is useless... no interaction, nothing. Just another toy on a shelf. Soon it will end up in a box. Is there a way to revert back to the previous version? I tried different apk's but they won't install because of security issues I guess. What a shame, I paid so much for R2D2 and BB8 and they were working great before your stupid decision to cripple them. Total disrespect, you cannot treat customers like that.

As a life long Star Wars fan I just love my R2 he's the cutest little dude, I haven't tried all the app has to offer yet but have every intention in sitting down and watching one of the greatest trilogy films with my latest companion. Yes I mean the first three IV V VI 👍 Syncs flawlessly and has some great interactions with the films, a great feature and I now have a companion to watch with, as I usually get relegated to the man cave if I want to put Star Wars on.

This app is amazing! I got the first bb8 app and the user interface on this app is so much better than the origonal, this app has so many perks. The only bug I have found is when I wached the last Jedi with the watch with me portion on bb8 it didn't sync at all through the movie. Thank you sphero for such an amazing app! The only thing you could do to improve is fixing the watch with me feature for the bb8. Thanks again.;)

Was the coolest Christmas gift ever. Functions and features were unbelievably amazing. Then they got rid of the "watch with me" pary, which was one of the best parts. You could watch the movies with your droid, and they would chime in when they detected specific audio cues. I hope they fixe this. Such a let down. Was going to sit down and watch A New Hope on Star Wars day with this guy, while I can't see it with my friends due to social distancing, and found out it was removed.

Sphero R2D2 is laugh-out-loud fun. Sounds great, moves well. The only thing i can think to improve in the app is that the alignment of the droid's straight ahead gets off from the app pretty quickly. I have to recalibrate multiple times a session.

This app is great. Got it for Christmas. The droids look awesome and look really realistic. I have the R2D2 model and it works really well. I love the attention to detail on it, especially the extension of the third leg, very fun. Five stars.

The latest update seems to have removed interaction with the movies. Why??? I love this feature. I updated the app thinking you were adding Episode IX, but that's not the case. Please explain and add the new movie. It's always fun to hang out with all four of my lil buddies while I watch Star Wars. Thank you! 05/04/20 Is there an update/fix coming? While this app does work, it is a colossal install and takes the space of many other apps combined. Without it, i cannot control my droid, but it means i have to uninstall things to fit it on my device. I would love a basic version without all the pointless features such as watching the Star Wars films on my phone, which i can do anyway, and the games are baffling with no instructions. If if was not the only option, I'd not install it at all. Slow and heavy, especially at the cost of a droid.

Just got my BB-8 droid second hand as I had been chasing one for ages. Download the android app, sync the droid to Bluetooth aaaaand... nothing. It stops working within 10 seconds of removing it from the dock. Sometimes it won't even let me move the head while on the dock. As I understand it, this app used to actually WORK... What happened??

I've been a Star Wars fan since 1977. I enjoy this app with the 3 droids in my collection..R2 is my favorite along with BB-8 & BB-9. They do quite abit. My self I have some difficulty steering them all, but get a kick out of them all with all the mannerisms they have from the movies. This is about a week old for me, so I don't think I'm any pro yet to say if its bad. Been working great for me.

Bb8 barely works at all since the most recent update, he used to work fine on any of our phones, but we got him out of the box and installed the app again and now he drives erratically if at all. The Force Band appears to work fine thigh as we haven't updated that.

This app use to work great haven't used my Bb 9e in almost 1 year because my child wad born. Got it out of the box now and the app does not conect to the droid. Doesn't even find him disppite the droid functioning perfectly and beeing fully charged. I paid about 170 euro for it so you can imagine the dissapointment. I will change my rating when you fix the app. Update. Since a few days ago there was an update. The droid started working again and they added a few new futures. I am pleased.

Watch with me just doesnt work at all anymore! the patrol feature needs upgrading as well, it would be nice to be able to see sensor data etc.
