Rich Chat – Your chats get even better with higher fidelity links, videos, tweets, GIFs, Giphy, Steam emoticons, and more.
Invite Links – Add new friends on Steam with a link. Generate an invite link you can text or email.
Customizable Notifications – Mobile notifications mean you'll never miss a message or game invite. You can customize your notifications per friend, group chat, and chat channel.
Group Chats - Get everyone on the same page. Groups make it easier to do things like stay in touch with your communities and organize game night with your best friends.

It's good, but not without some problems. 1. Moving the cursor by tapping near the right side of the text field opens the emoji panel too often 2. Rarely, clicking send crashes the app. Can happen a few times on reopening the app. 3. More recently, a messages I send never actually send. And then disappear from the conversation log. Sometimes if I open chat on PC it will still show on mobile. But not there. It's not bad. But these are glaring issues that hamper actually using this :c

When it works, it's decent. It can send/receive images and gifs quickly and it updates the user with notifications pretty effectively. However, the layout makes it where you more often than not click the stickers button, send messages twice if you have the Steam app open, and crashes 3/5 times when sending a message. An app that only works when it wants to and crashes more often that not is surprisingly not a good app. I wouldn't recommend it at all. GIF links aren't as bad as crashes.

I've had way too many issues with the steam chat to be able to recommend it to anyone. Not only there are times where I have to reset the app every time I want to send any text for it to actually do so; it also randomly crashes whenether trying to send any messages at times. It's not even an issue with my device as not only issues persisted on the 3 different devices I was able to test the app op. My friends also had similar experience to mine.

Works alright a little buggy but nothing breaking. 3 stars instead of four because the features in this app such as image sending and sticker sending could have easily been added to the main steam app which already has a chat feature. It just seems pointless having separate apps. Regardless I'm just happy I can see stickers on my phone now...

It's a great app! Unless you want to send messages, or receive messages, or unfriend someone, or leave a group... okay maybe it's not so good, I have to constantly restart the app to receive messages, and if a message fails to send it usually vanishes, which is quite annoying if you have written a length message. On the plus side, the app looks good and it's easy to navigate. That's about it.

Actual trash as of the latest update. I mainly use to keep in touch with people who don't use Discord, the far superior app, both on mobile and desktop. This used to be great, with a few minor flaws, which I had hoped would be fixed in later updates. It's now worse. The real problem now it's that you can't even privately message anyone without crashing anymore, only in group chats. Furthermore, it won't even let you send pictures or videos without, once again, crashing as you touch the button.

A while ago, the app updated, and since then, it's been garbage. I downloaded it so I could send images from my phone. Now it crashes when I try to do that, plus sometimes it just crashes when sending a simple text only message. It takes a while to load too, and when it does, half my friends list still isn't loaded. The update on Jan. 5 did nothing, it still crashes every time I try to add an image. Valve, fix your stuff

It's an okay app. I like the button to quickly close the app, I just wish didn't have the "attach image" icon. Having it right next to the input text box might be confusing for some people. Other than that it's a great way to message your friends on steam. Yeah, you can just message them in the main Steam app but there's no "instant exit" button. Plus, who doesn't love having to install multiple apps with the same functionality?

It's okay I guess. Not sure why they had to make it a completely separate app instead of fixing the one already available on the regular Steam mobile version. The thing that annoys me the most is that one of the things I've wanted for the normal Steam mobile app is the ability to send pictures, and this one has that which is great.... Except for it sending every picture sideways. -_- So, all in all, that's a meh for me in general.

The app takes too long to load(5 seconds or something, ridiculous). Some weird UI element positioning. The name of your friend sometimes appear at top middle, sometimes at top left in the chat view. I don't imagine this is intentional. Bottom bar is too thick I think? Also we should be able to slide anywhere on the screen to switch between tabs.

Current state of the app (Jan/18/2021 as of writing this) is not the best. The app crashes at random intervals, mostly when trying to add an attachment to your message. Sometimes a message won't go through, you send it again, relaunch the app, and find out that you sent the same message multiple times. This app desperately needs an update.

This is a pointless app that's barely even functional most of the time. Sometimes you will be notified of new messages and sometimes you won't, it's needlessly complicated to start a chat with friends, and messages sometimes won't even send at all. The only thing this has over the other Steam app (which might not look so good but at least it -does- work consistently) is that you can use Steam emojis and display images in the text chat.

Pretty good on notifications, borderline unusable for anything else. I try to send messages and they won't send unless I go to multitasking view, go to another app and come right back. All it says is "loading friends network".... I have fast, stable internet. Everything else works flawlessly, why won't this? I know Steam is trying to be diet Discord, they have the install base to do this, but when I run into stuff like this it drives me crazy.

Nice that there's group chat access / functionality added here. Only problems I'm facing is that the message time stamps are completely wrong, despite having correct time and zone settings on my device, and the emote button is too sensitive, it's always opening the emote list whenever i try to edit a word that's too close to the button. I'll just stick to the original Steam app for now.

Edit, I stand corrected: App crashes after sending messages. Like, how? It really doesn't work as a basic messaging app. Anyhow, rest of the review: It is missing features like saving images to phone or chat search, and the app deleting messages after a month can be annoying. If you want to use steam stickers, or already have a steam account and just don't want to create an account on something else, use this, otherwise just download discord or something, there are vastly better alternatives.

It does it's job, has some serious bugs that really ruin the experience. Especially the bug for notifications. If you tap on the notification, messages are kept as pending, with the additional bug of not being able to see the conversation itself. The only way to fix this is to end the task of the app to then restart it. Everything else is sooo good but it's sad with the current state of bugs ruining this app.

Great application- If you can get past the Steam logo, that is. It's awesome that Valve finally made an app where you can not only chat with friends, but can send them photos and see the group chats that you participate in. Yet, it suffers the same problems the desktop version offers. Constant drops in connection, barely able to upload any pictures, etc. Would be great if Valve fixed these issues because I've been waiting for a mobile application like this for a while. Sticking with Discord.

With every single update it got worse. Notifications are f'ed, crashes nonstop, etc. A huge mess and the fact that these simple issues have not been fixed for more than half a year with a 2 star rating it just proves whomever is in charge of the app development needs to be either fired or change his job. Edit: they fixed some of the crashes but still ways to go. Adding an extra star.

Ok, so tough situation here. This app has more features than the steam client itself... However it crashes if u try to attach a photo, if u switch apps sometimes it doesnt work and u have to close/reopen it. It used to let u attach photos, unfortunately the issue with switching apps has been around since the start. Super annoying because I use this app all the time. I hope it's fixed soon. Still broken. This is annoying Gaben fix it.

While this Steam Chat lets me actually be able to chat with people on Desktop without any issue and having decent notifications, it leaves a lot to be desired, between taking a long time to load on a fast phone, failing to connect even on stable and fast internet, images failing to load, inability to zoom into images or open them in a browser and the bunch of other issues seen in other reviews, it's inferior to its desktop part. Usable, but painfully so.

terrible application. slow to load. missing functionality. continually "loading friends network".. oh, and if you try to send pictures it will send random ones that you didn't select. inexcusable. why are there 2 steam applications? why not just make one with full functionality that actually works properly? the only improvement in this app is you can finally copy and paste text from the chat, a feature which was missing until recently.
