I upgraded to this paid version from the free version and immediately saw the benefit of the larger data base and better screen resolution. Stellarium accompanies me and my Dob on clear nights and is a great finder tool, essential when there is no "Go To" feature on the telescope. Thanks!
This app is so useful when planning your Observing Session. It is easy to use with clear information regarding the object you are looking for. And the pro version contains a terrific library of stars/Nebula. Unfortunately my Celestron Nexstar 9.25" although having it's own wire will not connect with this app. I would recommend it for the data base alone.
Great app. However, some time ago the "zoom out" button went missing when an object is selected, only "zoom in" remains, which makes it impossible to pan around one-handed. Furthermore, a double-tap zoom function on any part of the sky would be a welcome addition, especially since I can't seem to highlight/select an object of 4.5 magnitude at 25° FOV so I could zoom in further. Opening visibility chart disables bottom drawer, have to reach to top left hand corner to turn of visibility chart.
I've stargazed w/3 other apps of this nature from using and watching someone else's phone. The author of a stargazing guide convinced me of a 4th app but when it never worked, I disconnected it, and chased after my money. I did get a refund. I consulted a globally renound astronomical organization & found this app was the only recommendation by them used 1st hand. I paid for it and have never regretted it. I enjoy it and it's easy
Awesome app but only giving it 4 stars. It would be perfect if you could save the details of more than one Ocular. That way you could seamlessly switch between 2 or 3 camera/telescope setups and plan your frames accordingly. The ability to do this (just like you can on the desktop version) would be immensely helpful on a mobile app.
Excellent improvement on the free app. Will not connect to my skyscan AZ-GTI mount. Logs show looks for Mount but doesn't recognize protocol. using 127.0.0.1. Port 11882 as per manual.
I point my device up, nothing happens. The ability to point the phone around to look for stars doesn't work and the instructions to follow are worthless.
App has serious interface problems on Pixel 6 pro. Menus can't be closed after some usage. Dragging the sky also seams to stop working if this happens. Only solution is to close the app. It happens so frequently that the app is almost unusable. I hope for a fix as I really like the information this app provides.
I love it, if just for "looking" at space and helping me plan my shoots. I mostly use it for astrophotography and to see where the sun and moon will be on different dates! I'm also using it to map out some stars and planets on a photo, which is super easy when I can just point it in the right direction and then go back to the date I shot the picture.
Great map, but some features could be improved, eg adding background panoramas or indi telescope control. The main point that annoyed me, however, was nagging for ratings.
After restarting my phone, everything working great as usual. So if anyone having issues with sensors after upgrading, please restart phone.
Very useful app. Worth the small amount to use it. Connects with AVX and goes right to the target I'm looking for.
Great app. I just wish my phone was more precise on orientation (compass). I have a pixel 3a. Tech support was Spot on! My phone cover had a magnet. Once I took it out of the case and recalibrated using the figure 8 everything was perfect!
Really, really useful and easy to use. Not only is Stellarium helping me to become more familiar with the night sky but when I show it to friends and family, they seem very impressed and several of them have installed it onto their own devices as a result of seeing it running on mine.
Cannot calibrate. Always gets stuck on 50% then times out. Got S20 with gel case so have compass and no magnetic case. Wish I never paid for it.
Looks like a nice app but the gyro sensor or compass of my Samsung S7 is not working. I can wave my S7 in a figure 8 for hours for nothing. Calibration process does not proceed. At the moment the app is only working 40 percent for me. Sad Update: Even after the update the developer mentioned, gyro Sensor on Samsung Galaxy S7 is still not working. Update 16.3.2022: App works on my Tab S3 and my Tab S8+
Ease of use is excellent. Intuitive and clear descriptions. The live and static views with time modelling very easy to manipulate. Superb app.
Considering I have this on my laptop as well as tablet I don't know if 14.99 is worth it for the pro version, its an amazing app dont get me wrong but I think a little over priced for the pro version.else it would have been 5star
Feature rich. This app is incredible. Whether you're just a star gazer or an astro photographer, this app will help you plan how you pursue your hobby or obsession. The night vision mode is a really nice plus for using it out in the field. I do wish the developer would change one thing. In order to exit the app, you have to turn off full screen mode to display the screen control options, which causes subsequent problems upon restarting the app. They should just have an exit option in the menu.
The app seems to be pretty decent all-around, I rated it a 3 because I have problems calibrating it. If I use the built-in calibration, it never gets past 10%. I calibrated it using the Google Maps method but no joy. I have tried it in a Pixel 2 and a S8+ and still the same problem. It almost looks like it is pointing to Magnetic North not True North. I used the Moon and a point of reference.
This app is excellent if you're looking for an easy-to-use guide to finding planets and deep sky objects. The telrad reticle and red backlight means that I no longer have to carry a red flashlight, planisphere, and star charts. I would recommend downloading a red and black qwerty keyboard to preserve your dark adapted eyes when searching for objects out in the field. All in all this is an excellent app for those who like things simple.
Love how much information the app contains and the various cultures that can be used when viewing the night skies. Not happy with how off the system is however. Everytime I want to use the app it asks me to calibrate and I go through the motions but it doesn't work. The progression count stays at 0% no matter how much figure 8 I move it in. It probably has something to do with the calibration not correct but the app is off by about half a cardinal direction. This could be amazing if not for this
I had used the PC version of Stellarium years ago, and always found it to be overwhelming. I just bought this Android version to find the passing comet, and am amazed at how easy it is to use. The only thing that took me a while to figure out is how to get it to follow my phone again after zooming in - you just aim the phone straight up (this fact was probably shown in some tutorial box that I ignored...)
I initially had an issue with the app crashing, but tech support contacted me and we got it working. The app has a lot of good features, but it is sometimes difficult to navigate to the features I want. I would also like to have the ability to see the actual sky with the app semi transparent, so I can better line up what I am seeing with what the app is showing me. However, this app is really nice and worth the price.
Though the free version is excellent, the PLUS version opens up all the settings. These settings take it from being very good to excellent. I use the 'magnitude limit' to easily adjust the number of visible stars to match the current conditions. This alone makes it so much easier to pin point what you are looking at.
Very full featured, great options, the full version is worth the buy. I love the night time features, and the ability to add layers like planets, satellites, and even more.
