Their website preaches an all singing all dancing OS. This couldn't be further from the truth. App constantly crashes. WiFi drops out even though both stellarmate and device has great WiFi signal. App fails to connect constantly even though both devices are connected to the same network. Do not rely on this to app to look after or stream line your rig. I will be seeking a refund for the OS. Unbelieveable you guys are charging £40 for this "Operating System".
Hoping for improvements. The GUI is nicely done. Currently, I cannot get any sort of control with my Sony A7S or my Canon 450D, even though they are detected. I keep getting "Capture aborted" at preview stage. Also, despite an investment in an expensive regulated 3.5A power supply, the app is still very unstable. It disconnects often at random. So I hope this will get improved to make the Stellarmate OS worth its price.
This is a great app to control the equipment and session. While there were bugs when I started using it, the developer was very reactive in fixing those bugs, and the app is quite stable now (make sure Stellarmate OS is updated to the latest version as well!). There is great potential with the live stacking feature and support for AltAz mounts to have an app that can be used as a competitor to the eVscope and the Stellina.
Purchsed last year thinking it was an alternative to using a pc . During captures it keeps getting lost and you have to keep starting and stoping the capture. Its connection via wi fi is random. Having to reboot then setup again is tiresome. Now told problems are caused by poor power supply. Minimum is 3.1 amp. Having purchased it (software version to run on RPi 4 which is supplied with a 3 amp supply) It doesnt recognise my RTC and be careful what GPS you buy as some are also not recognised.
The author of the Stellarmate always try his best to fix all the bugs. I do understand that it is still in beta version, but IMHO the app is far more stable now when using on the field. So far still the best choice for remote astroimaging. Clear skies always!
Used this app and software version for a while now and I get more impressed every time I use it.. Like anything a learning curve to get going with it is usual but plenty of info on line and stellarmate support page if needed. See how I use this stellarmate pi computer and app on my youtube channel "Wayne's cave" if you're deciding yourself still. I recommend stellarmate highly.
Perfect as for portable setup as for domed one. Requiered of WiFi antenna to improve signal and avoid connection lost.
It's so unstable it's just not worth using. Stellarmate OS on the pi is fine (mostly), but this app is a mess, crashes often and without any reason, which is a shame. I've now resorted to just using ASIAir instead, a much better app
Right now I am not impressed. I can't sign in to the app and because of this I can't use my phone to control my Stellarmate. Before the update everything worked fine. I keep getting a network error.
After many attempts finaly got app to see device but now says my account doesnt exist.! Glad I am not relying on this to control my scope. Only given one star as cant post with none.
works great on my latest Stellarmate running QHY and iOptron mount. could use more improvements in the interface.
Always more to do and add but it seems stable and im happy it worka with my Pi4!
Doesn't support older Android versions.
It's good but it takes waaaaaay too long to connect to stellarmate
Get to simulate having a telescope 10/10
It works it's easy what can one say
Amazing Features!
I have a RPI48GB with external antenna and rock solid Wi-Fi connection and the app drops and won't reconnect to the Pi consistently. I got a test session running and then the app lost connection and wouldn't reconnect. Was working perfectly for a while and then just done. Very disappointed as was looking for this to complement my ASIAirs for my non-ZWO equipment. I think the complex authorization modules when connecting really don't help with the apps stability or ability to reconnect easily.
